I told my boss the week after I found out so I could have a risk assessment. It’s just as well I did because I was then off for 2 weeks on holiday and then had HG so was off sick for ages. He didn’t tell anyone until we announced officially at 12 weeks. He did tell me it feels like the world’s longest pregnancy though because he’s known for so long!
I’m really annoyed today. I’ve just been to the gestational diabetes clinic for the first time after being diagnosed last week. The call I got last week basically told me no sugar, no white carbs etc and it’s been really bad for my HG because potato has been the one thing that’s helped settle my sickness all through pregnancy. I also had to stop one of my sickness meds at the same time as being diagnosed because it can affect the baby when he’s born. So I’ve had a really shit week of throwing up 15+ times a day, being stuck in bed and sleeping loads etc. Got to the clinic today and asked wtf I do if I can’t eat potato/pasta because I can’t keep much else down and I’m now feeling really poorly. The nurse then got my results from last week up and said actually it was only my fasting result that was very slightly raised, and my blood glucose was absolutely fine after the drink. I told them on the morning I wasn’t feeling well at all, I had a slight temperature, was feeling sick and light headed and I was really anxious because of the drink and trying to keep it down and because they’d sent Mr R away when I was feeling so unwell all of which can cause raised blood sugar levels. She said it’s more than likely that that has caused the raised fasting result, that I should eat normally for the next week and just monitor my blood sugars now I’ve been diagnosed but that normally they’d just retest and I’d probably be negative I’m just too far on for a retest

It’s really annoyed me, firstly because I’ve spent all week feeling so unwell for no reason (literally had a jacket potato straight after the appt and instantly my sickness was better and my blood sugars didn’t raise) but also that now means we’ll be in hospital for at least 30 hours after birth (hospital policy), baby will need testing unnecessarily, additional testing in future pregnancies and I’ll be referred for yearly tests for diabetes in general

obviously I’m glad it means I haven’t had uncontrolled GD for weeks since my last test which would have been affecting baby but also all that unnecessary testing, sickness etc is really frustrating. Ugh!
