I’m 26 weeks, I’ll be having baby between 34-37 weeks as he is unwell and will need surgery immediately after birth. I really don’t want a c-section, does anyone have any tips on things I can do to help me be able to deliver naturally? I’m not sure if there is anything I can do but I’m desperate for a smooth natural Labour if any of you lovely ladies have any tips 🤞🏼 x
I’m so sorry to hear about baby being unwell. Unfortunately with a natural labour you will have no control over what your body does but I’d suggest investing in a hypnobirthing class to help with breathing exercises etc and that will give you some sense of control. Also try not to get hung up on a birth plan and try to keep an open mind x

thank you so much! I know there’s loads of old wives tales surrounding things to help with Labour but there’s really not much out there that seems to be science based! I’ll defo have a look at hypnobirthing x

Had my BFP on Sunday! Already rang doctors and got first midwife appointment next week, very fast! Haven't had a period since July 7th so not sure how far along I am as I skipped last month (irregular periods since coming off pill in March). I did get a positive OPK in the 17th of August though so I guess I'm around 12dpo? Anyone had a similar experience???

They will go off your period for it until the ultrasound and they will know the age by the size of it. Congrats!

Has anyone ever had a VBAC or know any good resources for deciding/preparing for one? I’ve read the RCOG and Tommys documents about it and have been referred to VBAC clinic. If I decide for a VBAC I’d like to use hypnobirthing again but first time round I found the Positive Birth Company course very anti intervention and a bit anti doctor. I personally am going to be quite realistic about chances of intervention and what intervention I will accept, I’m not the sort of person to say no to everything and I found PBC almost toxic level of positivity and very little attention paid to positive Caesarian birth.

I followed PBC on Instagram during my pregnancy and I’ve had to unfollow since my emergency caesarean as their posts made me feel like tit to be honest!! At the moment I’m adamant I wouldn’t even attempt a VBAC next time, but little one is only 5 weeks old 🤣 good luck ❤

Exactly the same with me, had a failed induction with a long pointless labour then an emergency c section and the long posts of women effectively bragging that they got their natural intervention~free water birth like it was purely down to their own good decisions and not a heavy dose of good luck made me so mad. I’m still unsure what to do but not quite ready yet to give up the possibility of ever having a vaginal delivery and this might be our last baby (unsure about that also 😂)

We've been going to antenatal classes and I didn't know what to expect but it's not this 🙈 feels like such a waste of time. They waste so much time bleating on about random tit we already know and there is just nothing of actual value. I'm finding it's making me more anxious and overwhelmed when it should surely be preparing us.

I've also been reading the PBC hypnobirthing book and as a first timer it's giving me false hope I think. I'd love for it to go smoothly but I highly doubt it so trying to stay realistic so that I don't get my hopes up and inevitably shattered.

Oh this is really interesting about the classes. Is it NCT you're attending or an independent course? I have an independent one booked in October and I'm a bit apprehensive about it!

Yes same! My next would be my last and whilst I don’t want to give up the possibility of having a vaginal delivery, knowing that it comes down to pure luck feels scary as I’d hate to go through that again. I got as far as you could possibly get, pushed for 2 hours, and he still didn’t come out😅 if there was a guarantee I’d 100% do it though!!

My number 1 advice for anyone would be to go in with a very open mind. I had a text book pregnancy, did everything ‘right’, he was always in the correct positions etc. but when the time came it just wasn’t meant to be! I’m not mad about my caesarean, but I’m mad about how places like PBC make me feel about it when it was completely out of my control. And actually in the end the only part that was ‘positive’ for me was actually the c section🤣

I think ours is council run. It was free and at our local hospital. I'm hoping next week is a bit better but so far it's been a bit meh 🙈

I'm currently 13 weeks and have had some bad pains which feel like in the area of my cervix as well as along my lower tummy in the area I would typically have period pains. I don't remember having anything like this with my son. I know from my scan that baby is positioned quite high so I don't think it's pressure from that. Anyone else experienced something similar?

I had a lot of tightness and twinges early on. I think it's just the uterus stretching a bit and preparing itself. It used to be so painful laying in bed and trying to get up/moving position. Obviously if you are really concerned it's best to go and get it checked out, but quite possibly it's ligament pain.

Unfortunately I'm not at home just now and I've no idea where the nearest hospital with a maternity unit is 🤦‍♀️ Nor do I have my midwife's details (I've not met her yet, someone else did my booking appointment). Probably just a combo of lightning vag and ligament pain, like you say.

Can you call as soon as you're back home? Just for some reassurance. I had times where I thought the baby was stamping on my uterus 🙈 my pains seemed to be worse in the first trimester and into the beginning of the second which I wasn't expecting.

I think I will. We won't be home until late Sunday but that works out fine because there will be no one at the midwife's office to pick up the call. Have found the nearest triage to where we're staying just in case. This pregnancy has been so different to my first, probably just to test out my anxiety that much more 🙃 Did spend today resting as I was worried I might have overdone things. Also managed to smash my leg into the bedframe in the middle of the night which as given me an almighty lump and bruise so been hobbling around, which probably hasn't helped matters!

Could not agree with the bit in bold more, same for me and my 1st birth. This time around I’m reading ‘The Second Baby Book’ by Sarah Ockwell-Smith and find it much more balanced and realistic than the positive birth company stuff. Would recommended any mothers to follow Sarah, she’s not preachy at all.

what’s everyone thinking for birth? i’m leaning towards a c section because i’m nervous for a traumatic birth

I did a hypnobirthing course with my first and we loved it! It left me feeling more positive about the birth whatever happens. For is what we took away from it the most was positive thinking, advocating for yourself or making sure your birth partner is able to ask to right questions, don't take the doctors advice at face value, ask questions. It also went through different medication, having a c section and breathing techniques.

Saying that the book we got to go along with the course is overly optimistic/positive. Maybe it was the midwife who did the training was the one who really helped!

I would say I had a really positive first birth and this was during covid times, it was relaxed but I did end up with a 3rd degree tear but it was all managed really well and I felt I had control and a say in what happened throughout. It happened too fast to really use all the techniques that they suggest in hypnobirthing so that's what I'm hoping to read up and remember this time round.
