Just got back from MAU for reduced movements and I must say I was very impressed with their response. Was seen within 2 hours, monitored for 25 minutes (she met the criteria within 16 mins). The monitor picked up loads of movements that I didn't feel so the verdict was a) she doesn't like the heat or b) she's in a position that doesn't lend itself to feeling movements.

The monitoring was reassuring but hoping she wriggles herself back into position, as much as I complain I love that she's been an active little kicker.

I’m due in November and have pretty much sorted all of the practical things, now looking at other stuff that can be pre-arranged. We have booked a Santa visit and newborn photography session. Also looking at baby classes and have followed a few local mum instagrams for activity ideas.
Does anyone have any other ideas for things to do/book before baby gets here?

You sound super organised! You might want to wait until baby is here to book classes as you don’t know how their naps/feeding will be etc so once you’re in a routine (of sorts) you’ll know the best time to book classes for so they aren’t always asleep at them! Also, until they are about 3 months, the classes are really just for you to get out and meet other mums. I did baby massage early in with my first and then did the baby sensory classes etc when she was a bit older.

Buy some Christmas baby gros/other clothes early. Especially if you want family matching pjs as they always sell out quickly 🤣

Honestly get an iron transfusion if you can! I’m in australia now so not sure how easy they are to get in the UK (and I paid a fair bit for it too 😂) but it’s been life changing. I wish I did it sooner. I’m almost 39 weeks and pretty much fine when everyone else this far along seems to be moping around with so little energy
I wish I could get one! In Aus too but even though my ferritin is on the floor, my haemoglobin is ok so I’m not anaemic. My ob doesn’t want me to get one while pregnant as I haven’t had one before ahd there’s a risk of anaphylaxis. 😭

Oh wow I’m due in January and I’ve done nothing 😅
20 week scan on Friday and once all is well I plan to make a real start. Could I ask what sort of practical things have you focussed on sorting?
i have The Nest book which is handy but like hearing from other “real” people to get ideas.

We’re almost finished with decorating the nursery
Got our bedside bassinet ready to set up
Been stocking up on nappies (I know not all brands might work for our baby but I’m happy to donate any surplus that we don’t need/want)
Bought soooo much stuff but over a period of time so it hasn’t been too financially damaging 😂
Hoping to wash baby’s clothes before the nice weather finishes
Been to try out prams/car seats which we will be ordering soon
Enquired with a nursery for Autumn 2024
Made a birth plan and discussed with my husband
Writing a hospital bag list so we can pack that soon
We’ve had a few DIY jobs done in the house
Planning on ordering some easy ready meals or even stocking up from M&S

I know there’s only so much you can actually prepare, but I’d rather do what I can now 😊

if it makes you/anybody else feel better im due early jan and have done nothing :ROFLMAO:

my mum has been washing the baby clothes we've bought while it's warm and i have a baby bath and beside me crib... all sitting in my hallway as the room it all needs to go in is a shambles. choosing a pram and a car seat is hurting my brain - made the giant mistake of joining a car seat group on facebook to see what's what... and apparently almost every single car seat isn't good enough and no babies are ever strapped in correctly 😑

I’m due December and would like to wash the clothes while the weathers dry, but will they be okay in the drawers until December or will I need to wash them again to freshen them up?

Leaving those car seat groups is the best thing you can do to protect your mental health. I find them awful. Obviously ERF is best but some of the comments are horrible.

Oo thanks I’ve screenshot your list 😂
After this week I plan to book an appt at Pramworld to go look at prams / car seats. I follow their account and have been watching their demo videos of their different brands / types to get an idea.
The nursery has been identified but needs clearing out which will be the next job but obviously got 6 months post birth for that. Not even bought a stitch of clothing even though I’m 20’weeks as until this scan it seems preemptive 🙈😅

I’ve washed everything and will put the newborn and 0-3 on the clothes horse to air it before he arrives. Maybe a sniff test nearer the time?

Im almost there with the nursery. We’ve been lucky enough to have a few secondhand bits gifted so I’m picking those up in a week or two, and then i think we’re done 😬 I’m due at Christmas so I’ve got a while to go still, but I’ve been slowing down a lot, so im doing things while I have energy.
---
Oh, the other thing I’ve done this week is make a list of things I want in the fridge when I return from hospital. It mainly consists of red wine, cheeses and pate.

I got my pram from Pramworld! They were super helpful and they’ll keep hold of your order until you’re ready for delivery too which is good.

I had my growth scan earlier this week as baby was small previously. It’s now off the charts big and I have to have the GTT at almost 37 weeks, which seems ridiculous 😭

Happy to report after trekking to hospital yesterday, she is not shy about making herself known today. Woke me up with kicks from 5-7, and has bestowed upon me about 35 kicks/rolls since then. Making up for lost time 😂

The midwives did say the heat could impact baby's movements, so perhaps something to bear in mind if you also notice reduced movements. It's 31° here today and I'm debating working from a bath full of ice.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get out and about etc as you don’t know how you’ll feel and Christmas is a busy time of year-it’s important to take the time to recover. The nights with a newborn are LONG so you’ll have plenty of time to organise/research what next. Agree with another poster re baby massage-did it at 6 weeks and it was fantastic for my mental well-being. Also don’t forget to organise for yourself-some nice pjs/loungewear for after, a peri bottle and arnica tablets to help recovery and something nice to help you feel human (I bought lovely shower gel/candles from the white company). Would definitely order the pram sooner rather than later, some nursery shops it can take a few months!

I’m only 13+5 today but I’m pretty sure I’ve felt babies movements.

Thought I felt it last night but wasn’t sure if it was just gas bubbles or not but I’ve definitely just felt it again there now. Like something dragging across my stomach which is exactly how I felt movements from my first baby.

My first pregnancy I felt them at 15+6 with an anterior placenta and this one is a posterior placenta!

So excited to be able to feel baby

Anyone suffered with blocked milk ducts in pregnancy? Dr thought I had a fungal infection but it’s day 6 of using the cream and no difference and the more it goes on the more this feels like early breastfeeding days and blocked ducts.

In absolute agony, can’t express as am only 22 weeks so currently alternating between hot and cold compresses and waiting for dr to get back to me with I’m praying some kind of miracle cure.

I used sunflower lecithin whilst breastfeeding but I don’t know if I can whilst pregnant?

me again! Over thinker 101 should be my name. Has anyone felt nausea and vomiting one day and the next day nothing? I thought maybe eating bread before I sleep would be helpful. But then I woke up this morning and felt no nausea so I’m wondering if that’s normal…

Yeah I did! One day I would be throwing up as soon as I woke up and the next day I would be totally fine so I’d say it’s normal
