Any advice please on what to do with Covid? My partner has tested positive - I’m still negative but not feeling well and this is how it went last time we had it - he tested positive before I did, but I still knew that I had it.

I’m nearly 33 weeks pregnant - should I contact my midwife?
I think the biggest things to watch out for are fever and respiratory difficulties. Hopefully you get a mild version and it’s just like a cold for you. Definitely give your midwife a call if you’re worried about anything.

Hi folks... I'm very early on in my pregnancy (literally 7 weeks 🫣) but super stressed about telling my work as someone else in the team is due on mat leave from August and ours will overlap by 3 months (if all is well w my pregnancy obvs)! I work for a local authority - has anyone had the chat with work yet and can tell me what they'll need to know?

You don’t have to tell them for a while yet if you don’t want to. I told my boss at 12 weeks. You don’t really have to tell them much else. My boss asked how long I would be taking off and what my plan was for my return. You don’t have to answer any of those questions if you don’t want to or aren’t sure. I had a good idea of what I wanted to happen so we could have a good conversation straight away. But at this stage it’s really that you are pregnant. They need to deal with the rest!

Thanks! We have our scan booked in May so my plan was to just tell them then? My husband and I know what we want to do (we both work for the same LA) so we can split the time equally.. its just the worry of them reacting badly etc. Also I was such a coffee drinker I'm running out of reasons to explain why I'm not partaking 😂

As an LA I would hope they look after you. The overlap isn’t really in your control so please don’t spend much time dwelling on it.

maybe just say you’ve been really struggling with sleep and need to knock caffeine on the head for a while because you’re quite sensitive to it all if a sudden?

Ha! I do actually struggle with sleep and it's known that I'm a sleepy person so thats my current excuse 😂 I know it's beyond my control but we're a small team etc so I do just feel ever so slightly bad. But also so so excited - 100% will be pestering this thread for ALL the advice 🥲

It’s safe to drink up to 200mg caffeine a day! It’s a myth that you need to completely cut it out ☕

It’s a great thread - especially in the very lonely first trimester! Congratulations and welcome!

I come from a team of three and my maternity leave coincided with my colleague’s pat leave (he got 8 weeks). My poor boss 🤣

Congratulations ❤ as others have said you don’t need to tell them anything I knew roughly how long I wanted off but just said I wasn’t sure at first. I don’t think they will react badly there are laws to protect you from that. In relation to coffee can you take decaf in and just make your own? Or if you’ve gone off coffee like I did I used to say I’d already had too many before work so weren’t having anymore caffeine or I would get the shakes or something

I've read that it's safe but honestly I'm such an anxious person already that I'm eliminating things that might make me worry more for my own sanity 😂

Has anyone else not been offered or having growth or any additional scans etc on the NHS now? I’m 35 weeks now and haven’t had one since I was 20 weeks (apart from a 4D one privately at 28 weeks) my midwife doesn’t feel any need for me to have one but I’m feeling anxious not knowing what’s happening. There has also been quite a lot of confusion on whether she is breached or not, the last 3 appointments my midwife couldn’t tell exactly where she was laid but thought she was breached but kept saying it doesn’t matter until I’m 36 weeks. This week she said thought I was head down but wasn’t 100% sure, later that day I ended up at the hospital for reduced movements and they told me I was breached. I explained they can never tell where she is and she agreed and went and got another 2 midwives who were all adamant she was either head down or breached but they couldn’t agree which one. They went and got a little scanner to help decide and still couldn’t decide fully with that due to the ‘angle’ she was at but think she was head down but kept saying she’s in a strange position. I ended up being on the monitor for over 2 hours as they couldn’t decide exactly where she was laid and it kept dropping off. I am going to explain all this to my midwife at the next appointment but I wondered has anyone had any luck with pushing for a scan? Even if your considered ‘normal growth’, I am just anxious I could be breached and they think it’s head down etc

So a lot of people aren’t offered scans after twenty weeks if there is no concerns. When it comes to baby being breach you can ask for a second opinion. My friend was told her baby was engaged and she was adamant she was breach. She asked for a second opinion, got sent for a scan and low and behold baby was breach, so if you’re really worried push for reassurance.

just had a phone call to say I’ll get official call Monday but to expect section next Thursday or Friday if he baby hasn’t shown up before !!Omg! I feel sick now 😂

Having a bit of a rant so putting behind a spoiler so people can just scroll past if not interested 😂

So basically I decided to tell my one close friend that I'm pregnant because she has children so I thought she'd understand and I could chat to her openly with no judgement. Found out today that I was wrong. I have a lot of confusion over how far along I am. The first day of my last period puts me at 11 weeks but my emergency scan put me back to 8 weeks so until my scan in May I have no idea where I am in this pregnancy. This week I've started getting proper nausea that lasts all day. I don't feel the need to physically be sick but the feeling is there of queasiness. I mentioned this to her today and she shut me down and told me I wouldn't be this nauseous this early and that she didn't have any nausea until she was almost at her 2nd trimester so I felt very invalidated. To add to that I've had a particularly stressful few months and it all got on top of me today and I ended up in a full blown panic attack, sobbing etc and then started getting dragging pains in my ovaries and across the middle section between my ovaries. Obviously started panicking more so I'm trying to calm myself down. I fear having a MC so much that it consumes my every thought. I know I need to just chill out but I can't wait for this pregnancy to progress just to know that everything is going okay. Sorry for the rant if you've read this far, just needed to get it all off my chest 😔
Oh that’s a shame that they couldn’t be more supportive for you, I started getting nausea at around week 8 and it went by the second trimester, most information says that by second trimester your symptoms should be a lot better but everyone has different experiences, she has no right to make you feel like that based on her own experiences!
Also I had a lot of sharp cramping pains in the first trimester and was constantly worried it meant something bad but it’s just the body getting things ready for baby to grow. It’s hard when you can’t just peep in and see what’s going on in there!

I feel very similar re having limited scans. I asked for a growth scan at 36 weeks because I was measuring big and wanted a more accurate understanding of the size of my baby (my first baby was 9lbs 4). I had to push for it but I did get the scan when I gave my reasons and explained my anxieties.

Congratulations! I was in a similar position, i work for LA on a team of 6 and my colleague had her baby in December, I had mine in March. Work were great about it, they have two temporary staff members on fixed term contracts covering us. Hopefully yours will be as supportive as mine have been :) I told my Line manager when I was 6 weeks because I had some bleeding and had to go for a scan at the EPU (and she was super supportive so I’m glad I told her) but you’re not obliged to tell them until you’re ready.

Definitely push for a scan. I had one at 35 weeks because baby was measuring small and was also breech. My trust were brilliant and straight on it - they arranged it all for me and said if there’s a chance they could be breech by 36 weeks they’d rather know so they can start to plan what to do /get you exercising etc to try to move baby.

Had a go at colostrum harvesting last night and got a full syringe, tried again tonight and not even got 0.1ml. Is there any pattern to it? Anything I can do to help it?

Is anyone going to use reusable nappies? I want to but there’s so many different brands and options I’ve no clue😆

I’m not really sure - I didn’t do it every night though as my nipples were a bit sore afterwards … maybe try in a couple of days?
