Thank you both They’ve asked me to stay so he can be monitored regularly and so I can meet the consultant in the morning to discuss next steps. Surely if they can’t get anything in the next option is a C-section? They don’t seem keen on it & I understand the risks but ultimately they want him out (as do I) so I don't see any other option?

It might just be a case of what they can do for you based on what they have going on. The woman in the bed opposite me in the pre labour ward was begging for a c-section and the nurse unfortunately told her that she was level 3 in the priorities as level 1 was emergency c-sections, level two were electives and the three was whatever they called her request… last minute electives? The trouble they were having was that that day was the day for electives.

If you’re staying I wonder how long they could monitor you for in the pre-labour ward… as it could get your body closer to being more favourable to a successful induction… and you’ll know that baby is okay? I was in the pre-labour ward for 3 days before being taken through. Alternatively you could ask if the cooks/foley balloon induction is an option for you? It will be uncomfortable going in but apparently it’s a little bit more of a natural induction compared to the gels (so I hear).

Why do they need to do 3 in 30 minutes? You can always say no to them and ask for as little as possible. Ask them to explain their reasoning behind them. Try not to hand over your autonomy, you have a say!

Tell them to keep their hands to themselves for a while!
I had three over three days - once at 10:30pm on the Monday as they were going to fit the Foley balloon, then two on the Wednesday when I got taken into the labour suite… (once at the beginning and then about ten minutes before baby arrived). I appreciate my situation is different to yours but I’m sure they could lay off a bit?

If they're doing them that often, I'd question what they're all for.
Usually the monitoring is every 4 hours

It's absolutely your right to refuse examination at any point, and it's definitely your right to ask what they're examining you for before you give your consent - three in half an hour sounds ridiculously excessive and uncomfortable, no wonder you were so fed up!! Hopefully after a good rest tonight you'll feel better for when the consultant visits tomorrow, and then once they've given you your options you can make a decision that feels right for you and can ask for clarification about everything they plan to do so you know if you feel comfortable with it or not

38+3 weeks now and desperate to meet baba. Being driven insane by braxton hicks and the pressure. Also being driven mad by the constant 'any signs yet' and 'get a move on with baby' like they wanna see her more. Also the panicking by bloody in laws when they haven't heard from either of us in 24 hours. I've had to hide my last active time on WhatsApp and deactivated my Facebook until baby is here now because its driving me insane.

I'm willing to try anything to get this child out now! Any tricks of the trade send my way!

I’m also 38+3 and turned my phone off for a bit today cos I was getting irationally angry at the messages. My aunt has messaged me everyday this week asking, we NEVER talk this much lol. I’m so fed up and irritable

So sorry you’re going through all this, I don’t blame you for getting upset. This is the exact kind of thing I’m fighting against induction for 🫠

Oh god I don't blame you! When I had my daughter I had 6 different people check because no one ever seemed to be sure how dilated I was. 2 midwives in Triage said I was 8cm when they sent me to labour ward and when I was checked again a couple of hours or so later i was only 6 🫠 and that was another 2 midwives checking and confirming with each other... then the doctors came along I genuinely wonder if they realise how uncomfortable it is at times

Weird, totally sympathise with you. My (failed) sweep was massively uncomfortable, as was the first check they did when I went in after my waters broke. If it’s any consolation once I was 4cm dilated I barely felt them

The doctor said he can make it clear on my notes for no examinations going forward unless in the pushing stage & baby gets stuck / medical emergency.
But honestly I’m so sore this morning, almost a burning feeling up my entire tina from yesterday, that I’m already clenching just thinking of them inserting something else.

Thanks for all your support & advice, I’ve had nonstop dreams whilst on the ward last night about continuing with induction or C-section. I think I’m geared more towards a C-section but still my head is scrambled. The big decisions are always in our hands throughout pregnancy I can’t wait to fully share the load of responsibility once he’s here!

Hey, I’m new to this thread but have caught up and can totally sympathise with you, inductions are long and exhausting and feel like they might never end! If you feel like a c-section is the right decision for you then be assertive and push for it.

They might push back a bit but they can’t say no.

Im 28 weeks and I’ll be requesting a c-section this time!

Those with more than 1 child - how did you prepare the first for the new baby? I've just realised we've got under 2 months until this baby gets here and I have no idea how my daughter is going to take it. She's only 1 so clearly unpredictable. Any suggestions on how to best introduce them?

baby tattle came out at 38+4 & it was a spontaneous labour. might've been a coincidence but i tried curb walking literally 2 days before. at that time all i felt was dumb

totally feel you on going mad bc of other people asking about the baby constantly. my friends & in laws started messaging me everyday asking whether baby's here and i was like if the baby's here, you would know. pls stop asking me every single day. unfortunately, the madness didn't stop even when i was in labour - in laws kept messaging my husband to ask for updates and insisted on coming to the hospital. husband just switched his phone off.

That would drive me absolutely insane, this is why I didn’t tell anyone I was being induced and haven’t told anyone my due date this time, I’ve just said “July”

People are really nosy though aren’t they! I was 2 weeks overdue with my first pregnancy, people just stopped asking after a while. It’s weird to ask if the baby has been born yet like you’d keep it a secret for a month.

I tried to keep my due date secret this time round by saying ‘early May’ but people still ask for specifics!

Ours was older so she had an idea about mummy having a baby etc. But when we got home I went to her first and gave her a cuddle, had a little chat and let her take it at her own pace to approach him. We also asked anybody who visited to do the same and not immediately run towards the baby and take two minutes to talk to her first. We just took it slow, she did get very frustrated in the first week or so with him crying but she soon stopped joining in. I always try to make time just for me and her at least once a week if we can around nursery and my husband working etc, even just an hour or so x

Thank you! The midwife came round this morning to ask what I had decided and I said no more of the induction process, I’d like a C-section.
She was more than happy & said she would speak to the consultant to get him to come round today to make a plan
I’m glad you have also been able to go for what you want this time! Hope they don’t give you a hard time when asking for it!
