Good Lord!Anyone else got a mother in law who’s excitedly buying baby stuff.. for herself?! She was going on tonight about buying a Moses basket and bedside crib I was like erm no you prob won’t need one because he won’t be staying over when he’s a new born baby?? Then she said she has a friend who’s giving her a load of baby clothes and I can have a look through it after she has to see if I want anything?!
I don’t want to dampened her enthusiasm as it’s the first grandchild but it’s a bit much![]()

Definitely feels overwhelming!Must be a first grandchild thing
When my father in law came to meet our baby a few weeks ago he brought a car load of stuff.. boxes of nappies, bulk boxes of wipes, lotions, bibs, lots of clothes, toys.. everything someone could need for a new baby. while the thought is nice it’s def too much and made us feel very uncomfortable.
He’s also mentioned several times he wants to open a bank account for our baby .. one that he his access too and not us. They’re planning on getting him gifts for Easter too. It’s odd.
Hopefully none of that comes across as being ungrateful.. we’re not, it just is far too much, it’s overwhelming and not normal.
When I was overdue My MIL used to say “hurry up and have her I want to meet her” and it gave me actual rageDefinitely feels overwhelming!
Makes me feel very protective of my bump. Feels like everyone wants a piece of him when he gets here.
Not under my bump but the kinda…. Bit between my vajayjay and thigh/leg was itchy and in the end was sore when I put underwear on!Anyone else found later on in pregnancy (I’m 37 weeks) that the bottom of their bump/belly is getting abit itchy… like almost like it’s abit sore rubbing?
My mum is being like that it’s so overbearing. along with constantly asking if the nursery is finished yet which she knows fine well it can’t be until the end of the month due to a situation out with our control. It’s stressing me out as it is without her constantly asking if it’s done. When I was overdue My MIL used to say “hurry up and have her I want to meet her” and it gave me actual rage
my mum is more like that! She’s got a crib from her friend and they also dropped off a load ofclothes and playmates etc to her. She touches my bump and kisses/talks to it an it just gives me the ick so badAnyone else got a mother in law who’s excitedly buying baby stuff.. for herself?! The sort of "crease" between my bump and my lower down parts gets a bit sore sometimes, usually after I've had a scan/midwife visit and I haven't managed to fully wipe off the gel so it's chafed a bit where it's a bit sticky. It might be worth popping a bit of savlon on overnight and then some talc after showering in the morning so it doesn't get more soreAnyone else found later on in pregnancy (I’m 37 weeks) that the bottom of their bump/belly is getting abit itchy… like almost like it’s abit sore rubbing?
I had a lot of cramping in the first trimester too. Exactly like my period coming on. Try not to stress about it xxI am getting a lot of cramping feeling tonight. Please tell me this is normal in the first trimester? I feel like my period is coming.
Thank you. That’s reassuring. This is my first pregnancy. I’ve to self refer to the midwife unit on Monday so hopefully that will help too. XxI had a lot of cramping in the first trimester too. Exactly like my period coming on. Try not to stress about it xx
Sorry you're dealing with other people's unhelpful opinions while trying to make a decision about what's right for you! I've been lucky to mostly avoid unsolicited advice from people I know, but at times I've accidentally ventured into areas of the internet where people believe that any form of intervention is wrong and that a natural, unassisted labour is the only way - I've very quickly backed out of those areas!! I'm very practical and if medical professionals are advising me that something would be best for me/my baby, I'm happy to go with that! If you're happy with an induction at 40+5 then go with that, and don't be swayed by other people's judgemental attitudesNot sure if I’m asking for advice or reassurance but here goes…
At my midwife appointment on Friday she booked me in for a sweep at 40 weeks and an induction at 40+5 (currently 38+2). The induction is based on new NICE guidelines about how it’s (slightly) safer to be induced at 40+5 instead of 41+5. However, she said it’s completely my choice, I can ring up the day before and ask that it’s pushed back a week if I feel like it. I really have no idea what’s right if I don’t go into spontaneous labour before that. My gut feel is to go for the 40+5 induction- I don’t trust my body, and I like statistics and evidence, so to me that’s reassuring. Also, I have the most horrendous sciatica, so bad the midwife took pity on me and gave me a few days’ worth of codeine it’s that bad.
I’ve been speaking to friends who have had babies and they’re all acting really preachy which surprises me, as they’ve mostly been pretty good about not giving unsolicited advice. One even said that horses have a 15 day window to give birth which is natural?!?!! Another said they’re probably trying to pressure me and cover themselves by giving me a load of “scary stats”.
not sure what the point of this is, and no judgement for anyone who decides anything else, it’s my first baby and as the birth gets nearer I’m getting more worried because I ultimately just want her here safely. Also had to deal with my MIL who doesn’t speak much English saying “no c section right???”I’ll have a c section if it means my daughter gets here safely, honestly dealing with everyone’s opinions is so overwhelming.

I think a lot of women have been made to feel ashamed of their choices around labour historically, and unfortunately that still plays out in people perpetuating the myth that anything other than natural labour is somehow bad or wrong. I was reading about attachment parenting the other day and couldn't help but feel that some areas of that seem to be based on making mothers feel guilt and shame if they don't do things a certain way. It's horrible that these judgemental attitudes feed into women's insecurities at a time when they're quite vulnerable. I had a chat with my midwife about my birth plan the other day and although there are a few preferences I've got, the main point right at the top is to be guided by medical advice at all timesThank youI feel that way too about being practical. I’m just a bit shocked that of all the aspects of pregnancy this is the one my friends feel so strongly about giving their opinions about when for me it’s the scariest and probably most individual part.
I ask a lot of questions of medical professionals but ultimately they do this day in day out, so when they give me evidence on something I tend to trust them more than what’s right for horses etc.
that’s a really good point and think I’ll add that to my birth plan too about being guided by medical advice. It feels like there’s guilt with every decision we make as mums, even before they’re not here yet.I think a lot of women have been made to feel ashamed of their choices around labour historically, and unfortunately that still plays out in people perpetuating the myth that anything other than natural labour is somehow bad or wrong. Does your friend realise that you’re not a horse? And that gestational periods and births are different for all animals and humans…? Doesn’t sound helpful to me! I was also guided by medical advice, I didn’t know anything about labour etc and I’m not a doctor so if they recommended something I was happy to take that on board! If you feel comfortable following the current advice and inducing at 40+5 (and who knows, it may not come to that!) then go for it and try and block out everyone’s negative opinions xNot sure if I’m asking for advice or reassurance but here goes…
