Does everyone get a GD test? I had to fast today for bloods etc but didn’t have to wait around afterwards? Or is it only if you’re high risk. Don’t remember having to wait around after my bloods with my first child either x
Usually if you have certain risk factors, one of them is (for example) having a family member who has diabetes. Another is having a higher BMI. So not everyone gets the pleasure 😆

Mine had moved right down into my pelvis which I think is why I couldn’t feel her (although I felt her hiccup but hiccups do not count as movements), but the whole way there and while I was lying with the Doppler I couldn’t feel her - although the midwife laughed because the baby kicked her and then moved from one side of my tummy to the other while she was trying to check her. You just need reassurance and you’re doing the right thing going in.

I’m only having it because my brother has type 1. I think if you have a high bmi you’re asked to have it? x

I was wondering if it might have something to do with position babies in…. Iv felt a few tiny tiny little movements…. But he ususally puts on quite the evening’s performance. Yeah don’t think I’ll settle if I don’t get checked. Glad everything was alright for you xxxx

Hi Just for some advice please!
I have my GD test tomorrow early 😴
When waiting around, do go to the cafe, have a bed, sit in the waiting area?
Just wondering if I should take my work laptop or a book?

May be different for every trust but thought I’d see to prepare! Thank you x
I sat in the waiting room of my maternity clinic. Took water with me to sip and my phone/power pack to charge and watch Netflix (download something if WiFi/signal is bad! Also, don’t forget a sandwich/snack for after! I was ravenous haha.

Both mine have been sat in the waiting area (with all the other pregnant people also having their GD tests) so I took some noise cancelling ear buds and some marking (or work, whatever you do)

I don't think so. I have one risk factor (I'm 40) but no others and they said I don't need one if everything else looks okay with bump/urine samples etc.

I had my carbon monoxide levels checked at an appointment yesterday and it was 4. She said this is usually associated with smokers 😫 got me paranoid as I wasnt in any traffic or around smokers. My usual reading is 2. Anyone else had a higher reading?

How far along are you out of curiosity as they only took mine at my booking appointment? Have you been in a big city over the last few days? My friend in the sticks got a 1 and she was told that’s incredibly rare but where she lives there’s hardly any pollution compared to where I am (edge of south London).

I had a higher reading at my booking in appointment, it was 6 I think. I had it redone after my 12 week scan and it was low again, the midwife there said it was probably a faulty machine at the booking in appointment, I don't smoke and we have a carbon monoxide monitor at home. They will probably repeat it again just to check.

Are you all UK? I’ve never heard of this that’s all x

Anyone else have the occasional pain in the ribs type thing? I'm 23 and a bit weeks and every day from about 8pm, it feels like baby girl likes to sit basically on my right lung and it feels like a bruise when I touch my stomach. Assuming this is normal but as she's my first and I have no clue, thought to ask lmao! Just feels so achey when she's there.

Were you wearing a mask before the reading? Could cause a rebreathing effect so slightly higher CO readings. Mine was 3 at my last appointment and they were concerned at all - mines normally between 1 and 3.

RE GD tests, I had mine at 20 ish weeks (I think?!) because my BMI at my booking appointment was 0.1 over the lowest one they take in 😂 though in hindsight as bump has measured big throughout I expect I’d have been asked to do one anyway. I was told I could go off if I wanted but that might be because I turned up in my uniform 😬 as I didn’t have time to get changed! She said if I did then just go and sit somewhere quietly, don’t actually do anything.

Had a pretty bad day yesterday, had awful stomach cramps and diarrhoea in the morning and really painful braxton hicks most of the afternoon. I think because of the pain I couldn’t feel baby properly so OH persuaded me to go in. All fine 👍🏻 I’m glad we went, they were lovely and told me not to hesitate again (OH mentioned he had to be a bit firm with me!)

Yes I was wearing a mask beforehand as it was a hospital appointment. Could this effect it?! I’m 20 weeks. I’ve got GD test in 6 weeks at the hospital so I’m assuming they’ll test me again then.

In my experience, yes wearing a mask affects it

Definitely! Depends on how long you’re wearing it for and how recently you’ve taken it off. Your lungs can’t clear CO that quickly and a smaller reading is quite reasonable if you’ve been wearing a mask.
