I haven’t read the rest of this thread this morning but will catch up now but I’ve heard back from my employer.
They’ve confirmed it’s totally safe for me to work as an agency teaching assistant and work in multiple schools if they need supply. They’ve said they don’t expect there to be much work and if there is they’ll risk assess me before sending me into any individual school. Absolute joke!!
I basically won’t have barely any money coming in the over the next 10 weeks and they are ok with that. With 500 people on their books they aren’t going to be making the 7/8 month pregnant woman on their payroll a priority for any work that comes in as I’ll be far too much hassle to risk assess every time a position comes available. I’m so upset.
This sounds so wrong. Are you part of a union? And do you get paid sick leave? If so, I would be tempted to get signed off sick.

Thank you ladies for all your kind words. It’s just such a horrible situation. I’ve moved back in with my parents and they have been absolutely wonderful but it’s just not the same. I’ve my first appointment with my midwife at the end of February so I’m going to see if I can get referred to anti natal mental health as I’m really struggling to keep it together just now. I’ll definitely be sticking round here, there is so much that I don’t know and there are no antenatal classes or anything running where I am so I’m panicking about how all the things I don’t know x

We’re all here for you to listen. Can’t pretend to know what you must be going through but I’ll always be on here to talk. I’m 11 weeks this weekend so our dates are close so we’ll get through pregnancy together :) look up baby academy, they do 2 hour free online workshops on how to look after baby that have come highly recommended in this thread. There’ll be more dates throughout the year so just keep an eye on their site.

Please don’t feel panicked about what you don’t know about having a baby. Everyone is in the same boat the first time in that respect, and I promise you so much will come easily and instinctively, and you will surprise yourself with just how much you DO know. I’m so glad your parents are there to support you.

You can chat to all of us about anything, the ladies on this thread are really lovely, and a mix of mums who have done it before, and first time mums, so never feel worried about asking a question x

Just popping on to say hi! I am so glad I found this thread, I’ve already learned loads reading through it. I’m 11+2 according to an early scan I had a few weeks ago. I’m going through pregnancy alone and will be raising my child alone. My husband had severe depression and killed himself in December and I found out 9 days after that I was pregnant with our first child. It’s been an absolutely heartbreaking few months, at a time where I should be happy I’m grieving. I feel so guilty because I just don’t feel excited about the pregnancy, I feel so detached from it. I never thought I would be doing this alone. My 12 week scan is scheduled for what should have been our first wedding anniversary, I tried to get it changed as I don’t actually know how I’ll cope but I was told it wasn’t possible x
Hi I am so sorry to hear your story I really can’t imagine how you feel. I believe it is possible to move it maybe if you explain why however you could see it as fate that he is watching over you on this day. I am so sorry for you loss truly you are a strong lady xx I also am due early September 11 weeks + 1 today so we are all in this together I have no idea what I am doing either but don’t let it get to you because I don’t think any first time mums do from talking to my friends. I’ve been told Anti natal classes will be online my friend attended hers via zoom. X

Went back to work this morning, was there for a couple of hours and then went to the loo and had lots of brown blood on the liner again. Been advised by hospital to go home and rest. Supposed to be back at work Monday but my mom called and insisted I stay off work til my 12 week scan on 24th so I can just rest and get through this last bit of first trimester without pushing myself at work.

I think baby’s probably okay because it was fine Wednesday after the bleeding earlier in the week but I think my moms right. I keep going back to work and being on my feet a lot and then bleeding and getting back pain. Rest is probably best but I feel so guilty not going to work.

I would take as much time as you need, rest and don’t overdo it. The most important thing at the moment is you and your baby, I think everyone feels guilty for taking time off work but at the end of the day it’s a genuine reason so you’re entitled to it x

Thank you so much for this post. I work for an agency and am a supply teaching assistant. If my employer continues to dig its heels in I will ask if there’s any admin type of work I can do from 28 weeks up to 36 weeks or failing that may simply have to take the hit of having no money coming in and declining jobs. I said to my partner this morning imagine me rocking up to a school to do supply they would probably take one look at me and send me home because of the risks.
I’m so sorry to read you had to give birth alone this is my worst fear in all of this. When I had my son who is 6 I had the worst birth (I had 3 daughters previously and had wonderful births, one a dreamy home birth) and my sons was everything that could go wrong did go wrong and both him and I were very poorly in hospital for 10 days after his birth. I’m so scared of this happening again and being alone, not able to have support and visitors. I hope 2 weeks on you and your little one are both doing well. Enjoy the precious time xx
If you are on any kind of contract with your agency and they can’t redeploy you they should suspend you on full pay until 36 weeks. You should not be forced to start maternity early.
I had a nightmare birth with my first- this was meant to be my healing birth where I got over the trauma. Instead I’ve just got a whole new level of trauma but am just glad to be healthy and home. My dad is on a ventilator so for now all our focus is on him.

Hello beautiful fellow pregnant ladies.
So il be having an elective C section in a few weeks time, anyone have any experiences of them?
I’ve read that you can pick your own music playlist during surgery? 😂 if this is true I want to get creating something ASAP.
Also do they allow skin to skin when baby comes out? So many questions.

My heart absolutely breaks for you, I’m so sorry you’ve had to experience this. I hope you have lots of family and friends around you for support.
glad you’ve been able to find this thread, it’s the best and so much better than any I’ve been on before! No judgement from anyone, just friendly and helpful discussion! Which is what you need as a FTM.
I genuinely hope you’re ok though, you must have so much going on in your head right now 🥺😓

Hi 😊 I had an elective section with no3, and will be having one again this time. I wasn’t able to have skin to skin when baby came out, nor delayed cord clamping. It doesn’t seem to be something offered at ELCS in my hospital, but I’ve seen others say they have. I can’t answer the music question as it’s not something I would have thought about Tbh.
Overall, my section was a great experience, best birth I’ve had. Hopefully this one goes as smoothly.

ETA: baby was given to dad straight away and brought to me, popped on my chest, but she was wrapped up. I got skin to skin when I got out of theatre, my husband had her while I was stitched up.

This is such a random question but did you have to have a reason for your c section or did you just ask for one? I used to have my own tv Channel on at the dentist and music so anything is possible!

change of subject but has or is anyone watching Greenland?

Oh that’s a shame, i really want both 🥴😔 if like you say it varies from hospital to hospital I guess it’ll have to be something I ask my consultant when I see her next.
I’m glad it was a nice experience for you, that’s the main thing! I wish you luck with your next one, when are you having it?

I have placenta previa and gestational diabetes so that’s why I have to have an c section. Although, I’ve been told that I’m managing my GD really well and it hasn’t affected his size which was the main worry with delivery. So if it wasn’t for the placenta previa I’d be having a natural birth, which I’m sad about but I’d rather us both come out of this experience alive and well! (Sorry to be morbid)
I have heard you can request a C section but it has to be a genuine reason why. It’s major abdominal surgery and I think some surgeons are reluctant to do them for non medical reasons!
I found myself watching a lot of positive natural birth stories on YouTube ,but since finding out it’ll be 100% a c section I’m struggling to find positive vlogs on YouTube which I find a comfort watching other people’s experiences! Even one born every minute doesn’t have many C sections on there

Hopefully in around 9 weeks 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I don’t have my date yet, but I’m assuming it'll be the week I am 39 weeks.
to be fair, my previous births were pretty horrendous (which is why I had to have the section) so it honestly couldnt have been worse 😂 I’ve never been able to have skin to skin straight away (or delayed cord clamping) because of the rush the other babies were born in, but I've always been able to get it within the first hour, and it has never been an issue in the end.

Definitely ask your consultant, and again at your pre-op (Which should be with a midwife) just to double check and clarify. Sometimes the midwives can give you a bit more info on what happens with baby, as the doctors are more concerned with your insides!

Ive sent them links to all the websites stating that and they just insist it will be safe pending risk assessments. I just know they won’t even offer me the jobs and I’ll be without pay.
I’m so sorry to read about your father I hope all will be ok. Sending you love x

This was one of the emails I received and my response. I’ve sent further emails with links to the guidelines as I can’t see how they possibly think various classrooms in different schools is considered safe for a vulnerable pregnant employee. I’m not leaving it go and will continue speaking with them to try and get further clarity.

Sounds like you’ve had some horrendous births bless you ☹☹
Mine is going to be around 38 weeks, which will be around 24th March onwards. They originally said 36 weeks because I’ve had a few small bleeds, but the goalpost changed as they want me to go as long as possible! Which I’m so thankful for those extra 2 weeks....

This is an IVF baby so this will be my one and only chance to experience this and so far everything I wanted has been taken away from me, I really hope I can have some sort of skin to skin contact! I can’t even breastfeed as I’ve had a previous breast reduction so my nipples don’t work unfortunately so il be relying on the first bit of skin to skin contact so I can bond with him!
It literally consumes my brain, all day everyday. I just try to imagine what he’s going to look like and whether he’s going to like us or not 😂🤣

🤣🤣🤣

It sounds like you’ve had a rough journey to get here, so I’m crossing my fingers for you that you get to have a great experience in your section, and get the things that you’d like.

But just to say that please, please don’t think if you don’t get that skin to skin, or because you can’t breastfeed, your Baby won’t bond with you. You guys will have hours and weeks and months after those first post-birth hours to snuggle and bond ❤ And he will adore you (at least for the first few years until the attitude kicks in 🙈🤣)

Yeah that just doesn’t sound right to me. I think that’s the best thing to do, to continue asking them for clarification around all of the guidance and why they don’t think that it applies. I feel for you though, it’s stress that you just don’t need!

Hi ladies, im trying to stay calm and not fall down a google hole. Ive been feeling pretty normal for the last week or so (aside from a bit stressed and overwhelmed with stuff happening in life, not related to pregnancy). Im worrying as im not tired, nauseous or achy. Does anyone have any reassurance to offer? My first scan is at 10 weeks on 2nd march. I read on the nhs website that having no more symptoms could be an early sign of miscarriage.. On thr other hand, some women barely even know theyre pregnant as they feel normal and others have a pretty symptom free happy pregnancy..

Must. Not. Worry (but low-key will for the next 2.5 weeks) :(

I had days where I felt quite normal, no symptoms, even my sore boobs went away. Think I was maybe about 6/7 weeks when it happened. I did the same and googled like a maniac and thought the worst.
Of course it was totally fine and I wasn't having a miscarriage.
Then all my symptoms came back ten times worse over the next few weeks and I couldn't stop being sick.
I know it's hard but try not to worry it doesn't always mean something bad.
