Just weighing in for the poster who said they work in a school. I am in leadership in a school and we would not have anyone post 28 weeks class based. There are plenty of other things you could be doing such as remote learning/ admin but you shouldn’t be left in a class after 28 weeks. The guidelines say you should continue to work where strict social distancing can be adhered to. This is simply impossible in a classroom.

For those worrying about covid and giving birth alone. I unfortunately contracted covid the week before my planned c section and gave birth on my own 2 weeks ago. The thought of it was actually way worse than the reality. The staff were absolutely amazing and so kind to me and got amazing photos for my husband. The biggest downside was that they wanted me out of hospital ASAP for obvious reasons so I probably came home a couple of days earlier than I would have liked. Whilst no body would have chosen our situation it wasn’t as awful as I had imagined.
I'm so sorry you had to go through birth yourself. I hope you and baby are doing well and you're recovering x

Hi Ladies, hope you are all well. I'm around 4-5weeks currently, and I keep getting pain behind my belly button & light cramps? Is this normal? I don't remember any of this with my first as I didn't know I was pregnant till around 8weeksish with him. I've no other symptoms and honestly it's driving me crazy :(

wow well done for you giving birth alone! That’s my biggest fear. Haven’t had covid yet and work refused to vaccinate me. Hopefully you weren’t too poorly with it either?

Anyone have any tips on how to stay sleeping on your side? I've got got pregnancy pillow and I can fall asleep in my side but everytime I wake up I'm on my back (this is how I always slept) it's worrying me because so many people have told me it's bad for the baby
Although it’s not ideal the guidelines say it’s mainly about the position you fall first asleep in as this is usually the position you stay in the longest. And if you wake up on your back you should just turn over. I wake up on my back sometimes but find if I wedge a cushion between my knees and a big one behind me and turn into it (kind of half recovery position) I don’t tend to move. Or you could get your partner to spoon you? (Although my husband disengages and turns over as soon as he is deep enough asleep lol!)

Yes I got this and still getting belly button pain now at 35 weeks! I read online apparently it’s quite common but they don’t really know the reason for it. I just put it down to everything stretching and moving to make room

I am coming up to 22 weeks and my nausea sickness is back with a vengeance. First day back at work as well from annual leave and the comments have already started suggestively saying I am trying to get more time off. I am working from home and they seem to think that means I can just chill out but it’s not like that. I am working on my dining tablet on a tiny laptop screen and I can’t focus I feel too sick.

My GP is useless so I’ve phoned the EPU to see if a nurse or doctor there can give me a sick note. I have been admitted to them before for my hyperemesis so they have my records but this is just tit!!!

I am fed up of people (mostly colleagues) saying “that’s weird, my sickness went after 12 weeks” etc. Not helpful!

Sorry for the rant but I am just feeling so nauseous and down about this and now with work making me feel guilty too it’s all a bit too much. :-(

Sorry to hear you’re having such a rough time. I’m also struggling with sickness. If one more person tells me to eat a ginger biscuit or wear a sickness band, they will get told to shove them where the sun doesn’t shine!

If being on a drip and intravenous drugs didn’t really help then I don’t think munching on a ginger cream is going to cut it 🤦‍♀️

Exactly this! And what doesn’t help is my (female) boss thinks it’s appropriate to comment things like “I didn’t have that in my pregnancy”, so makes it sound like I’m making it up!

Yeah, because someone’s really going to fake feeling utterly sick to their stomach every single day 24 hours a day. It’s exhausting trying to justify it constantly.

Just popping on to say hi! I am so glad I found this thread, I’ve already learned loads reading through it. I’m 11+2 according to an early scan I had a few weeks ago. I’m going through pregnancy alone and will be raising my child alone. My husband had severe depression and killed himself in December and I found out 9 days after that I was pregnant with our first child. It’s been an absolutely heartbreaking few months, at a time where I should be happy I’m grieving. I feel so guilty because I just don’t feel excited about the pregnancy, I feel so detached from it. I never thought I would be doing this alone. My 12 week scan is scheduled for what should have been our first wedding anniversary, I tried to get it changed as I don’t actually know how I’ll cope but I was told it wasn’t possible x

I’m so sorry to read this, what a tough time for you. Please don’t feel guilty about how you’re feeling, as you said you’re still grieving so it’s no surprise that you don’t feel how you expected to feel about being pregnant. Have you told anyone else about it yet?

With your scan, was it the hospital that said you couldn’t change it? I managed to move mine (only by one day) as I couldn’t do the date they gave me. I called and spoke to them, but I know it’s different with different hospitals.

I wish I had some useful advice to give but the only thing I will say is that this thread is soo useful and a great place to chat about pregnancy and get support ❤

God I’m so sorry. You poor thing that is absolutely awful. Please don’t punish yourself for not being excited - there’s no textbook for how you should feel in your situation and all your emotions are valid. Xxxx

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband.
You shouldn’t feel any guilt at all about not being excited, my gosh what you are going through must be an absolute storm of emotions, let alone adding in the pregnancy hormones. You are grieving, and should never feel that you have to feel a certain way about anything, including your pregnancy.

Perhaps your midwife can recommend someone for you to talk to. A few years ago a friend worked closely with the antenatal mental health team due to a death in her family, and it was helpful to her.

sending you so much love x

Sending love and strength your way. I’d ring the hospital and insist they change it. I’ve had mine changed a couple times for personal reasons. If they refuse then demand to speak to a manager.

With regards to feeling guilty, what you’re feeling is absolutely normal. I won’t pretend I’ve gone through the same heartbreak as you but I’m also feeling very detached from my pregnancy. After years of infertility and miscarriage, this pregnancy is nothing but stress and anxiety. I’m not excited in the slightly, have severe sickness and have an overnight bag permanently packed in case I miscarry...

It’s a myth that all women feel excitement throughout their pregnancy even if it is very much planned and wanted xxx

I haven’t read the rest of this thread this morning but will catch up now but I’ve heard back from my employer.
They’ve confirmed it’s totally safe for me to work as an agency teaching assistant and work in multiple schools if they need supply. They’ve said they don’t expect there to be much work and if there is they’ll risk assess me before sending me into any individual school. Absolute joke!!
I basically won’t have barely any money coming in the over the next 10 weeks and they are ok with that. With 500 people on their books they aren’t going to be making the 7/8 month pregnant woman on their payroll a priority for any work that comes in as I’ll be far too much hassle to risk assess every time a position comes available. I’m so upset.
