Fingers crossed it is just the irregularity then. I hope she gets good news at her next scan.
Thanks I hope so too ! Its helpful just to get my thoughts out here as I feel a bit useless for her at the moment. Pregnancy and conception are such a complicated world !

Hi everyone. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and starting to really hope the last weeks fly in ! Feeling very heavy and uncomfortable.

Hope its okay to ask for some advice on this.. my friend recently found out she was pregnant and going on her last period she would have been around 9 weeks last week. She went to a private scan and unfortunately they advised they could only see an egg sac and foetal pole. She was referred to clinic within NHS who told her she had either miscarried very early or was only 4/5 weeks pregnant and had miscalculated her pregnancy dates. So she is booked in for a vaginal scan this week to know for sure what's happening. Has anyone ever heard of this? I'm trying my best to support her as she is in limbo right now! But also I dont know much about it at all. Any thoughts would be helpful x
It would be a missed miscarriage if that is what they conclude (miscarriage but no bleeding). I have a friend who was backdated two weeks at her 12 week scan and everything was fine (she had the baby earlier this month) so sometimes the dates are just out. The second scan will hopefully give more of an idea 🤞🏻

When did she get a positive test?
I had weird periods both times before 2 of my pregnancies.
One was so light I didn't even need to use anything. Yet I didn't fall pregnant until the month after.
The other one was pretty similar too!
Almost like my body knew it was going to fall pregnant!

Just wondering if she had similar and didn't get a positive test until a lot later

Not wanting to focus on the horrible side but don’t forget that your body still produces pregnancy hormones for a while even if you’ve miscarried. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and was still testing positive for a week afterwards.

I’d save your money and buy something nice for the baby later on x
I was going to say the same thing, I continued to test positive after a miscarriage so with this pregnancy I didn’t test again once I got my positive, I never paid for a private scan either but I did have one in the hospital at 8 weeks due to some spotting, scans are really the only way to reassure you before 12 weeks

I'm so sorry you've had to go through that but congratulations on your pregnancy now! I guess I was wondering what the chances are she is still pregnant and it's not a miscarriage.. I'm being positive for her but being realistic does it look like it's been a miscarriage if that's what she's been told? It was an empty sac and foetal pole visible in the scan only.

This is what I'm thinking.. as far as shes told me she can be very irregular so I feel there could be a high chance of wrong dates. You don't want to be too optimistic obviously in case the worst has happened
So when I calculated by my lmp I would have been further than I am however my periods are very irregular when I went for the early scan they said I was 5-6 weeks and everything was fine as far as they could see. My cycles can even be missed and skip a month and my average cycle is over 40 days I suggest she tries to wait a week or two abs go for an early scan. Sending my love to you and her because I have a feeling she is just very early in her pregnancy and ovulated very late. I had my period on 11/11/20 and I am 11 weeks tomorrow x

Ah okay that's interesting!! I'm not sure of her previous periods but I know it was around the 19th of Jan she got her positive test. And she has definitely been irregular period wise for a while

Thank you ! That's really encouraging to hear. I have my fingers crossed so badly for her. X

How long did people continue to take pregnancy tests when they got their BFP? 🙈. I’m nearly 6 weeks and I’ve taken another one today. The line is darker too which is a good sign. It gives comfort 🙈
I tested each morning for the next 2 days then left it cause my period was due to come within 5 days after I got the first positive result then used a clear blue digital to test again the day after I missed my period, then didn’t test again after that just phoned the doctor, but my periods never late so I knew I defiantly was

Thanks for the tips I’m going to have a fizzy drink with my lunch!

Yeah I’m the same in work today, every time my team message me I’m like please leave me alone 😂

I haven’t actually got a face to face appointment booked yet - I’ve got a phone one with a midwife on 3rd March so maybe I’ll get booked in for something else after that? I’ve heard a lot of people talking about blood tests so I’m sure I’ll have to have them at some point! X
This is my first baby and my apps have been face to face but I didn’t see a midwife until my 12 week scan I had bloods taken at my 12 week scan as well then didn’t see a midwife again until 16 weeks then didn’t see a midwife again after that until 25 weeks. Unless your high risk you won’t have that many apps here until closer to your due date. In the first 6 months I only had 2 midwife apps and 2 scans. From the end of December I’ve had midwife apps every 2 weeks as I get closer to my due date

if she got a positive test on 19th jan, let’s assume at that point the earliest she could be is 4 weeks pregnant (14 days past ovulation), at a push 3 weeks pregnant (7 days past ovulation) but you would not be likely to get a positive test at that point, so if she was around 4 weeks pregnant on 19th jan you would expect that she would be around 7 weeks pregnant now - I think more should have been seen on a scan at 7 weeks, I’ve had a scan at 6+2 with my last pregnancy and seen the fetus and heartbeat

I’ll tell you about my experience with a missed miscarriage, got a positive pregnancy test on the day of my missed period, so was 4 weeks pregnant at that point, 6 weeks later when I was supposed to be 10 weeks pregnant I started spotting and getting cramps, went to EPU for a scan, only a pregnancy sac measuring about 6 weeks could be seen,no fetus, no heartbeat etc, they told me I had probably just got my dates wrong and might just be a lot earlier then I thought, so I went away with a bit of hope, until the sensible part of me thought about that positive pregnancy test I’d gotten 6 weeks earlier - there was no way I could be earlier then 10 weeks based on the date I got that positive test, I’d had a blighted ovum, I think there’s a good chance it’s a missed miscarriage for your friend to be honest, although I’m not an expert, maybe it’s normal for some women to only see a sac and a pole at 7+ weeks, hopefully it works out ok for her

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Everything you said makes sense and I feel a lot more educated now! I really dont know what the outcome will be but whichever way it goes for her I'll be there for her

Death2unicorns has pretty much summed up my experience too.

This might sound harsh but I really hated being around my friends who were still pregnant after miscarrying. I found their sympathy hard to stomach

It is very difficult being around pregnant people after a miscarriage. I remember sobbing in my storeroom one day when a coworker announced her pregnancy soon after I’d lost mine.

I completely understand that and I actually said this to my partner the other day. If the shoe was on the other foot I dont know how I'd feel. But she's one of my best friends so I cant not say anything... it's a hard one

just so you know I was two weeks behind where I thought I should be because my cycles are so messed up for someone like me and your friend it is hard to know when you ovulate or even when you will have a period when I went at 5-6 I could see a tadpole looking shape abs she said the flickering movement was a heartbeat but it was very small. Really hope you’re friend is ok and it is as I suspect she is not as pregnant as she thinks is. When I had a scan they also told me I only ovulate from one side it’s also taken me 5 years to get to this point so I am also incredibly worried. Thinking of your friend x

ah this happened to me, I had returned to work 2 weeks after finding out about the missed miscarriage, having spent the two weeks lying in bed sobbing and bleeding through my clothes and in pain, my return to work date was actually the day my 12 week scan was supposed to be, the day I had imagined finally being able to surprise my friends and family with my announcement, I cried in my car on the way to work. Got to work, sorted my face out, went and sat down at my desk only for one of my team members who I don’t particularly like to be walking around beaming while everyone was fawning all over her, touching her tummy and congratulating her on her pregnancy. Somehow I managed a smile and a ‘‘wow that’s amazing congratulations’’, to this day I do not know where the strength not to burst into tears there and then came from, needless to say it was a crappy day!!

I completely understand that and I actually said this to my partner the other day. If the shoe was on the other foot I dont know how I'd feel. But she's one of my best friends so I cant not say anything... it's a hard one
all you can do is be supportive and be there for her if she wants to talk, you sound like a lovely friend to be concerned for her and hoping for the best possible outcome for her, and fingers crossed it is just that she is much earlier than she thought

Me too. I hated them for being pregnant and finding it “easy” to stay pregnant. It’s totally irrational but also a completely normal way to feel. I still feel a bit bitter about people I know who have had their babies when my first pregnancy was due in December. It’s not personal but that’s just the way it is.

in my last pregnancy the only thing I could stomach for a while was cold cans of coke, had to be a can too not a bottle! I’m only 5weeks at the moment but a McDonald’s sounds fabulous right about now, might go and get one on my lunch!

does anyone else find the only things they can tolerate in the first tri is beige carbs and sugar?

Yes this is me I am obsessed with Coke and it’s so nice in a can like a bottle is just not the same! My partner thinks I’m odd because I even prefer the skinny cans now. I just ask for a plain hamburger no sauce nothing and it’s nice I have tried to cook so many things and just turns my stomach xx
