Just catching up on the last thread - I told my manager this week. I’m only 5 weeks so its so so early and in normal circumstances I’d have waited longer, but the main reason I told him is because my role is at threat of redundancy. We get an official announcement about what’s happenening next month, and so I’m really hoping that me being pregnant may mean they’ll try and move me to a different role, rather than making me redundant. So I told him just so it’s “official”, as I didn’t want to drop it on him after the announcement! It’s really worrying me tbh but I’m trying not to think about it too much as there’s nothing I can do until we find out what’s happening!

Just had my anomaly scan at 20+1 and the lady doing my scan hardly muttered a word to me! I noticed that babies tummy was measuring at just over 21 weeks and the inside measuring of his brain was at 17 weeks and I’m panicking that I could have gestational diabetes and/or he might have a smaller brain?

I asked a few questions but she just tapped away at the computer thing and mumbled. Then I didn’t get a print out of the report because they said the printers were broken so it would be posted to me within 7-10 days and I just don’t feel like that’s good enough.

I explained this was my first and mentioned I haven’t felt anything yet and she just said “aww yes it’s tough isn’t it”

Dont feel reassured at all. It was like a cattle market in there.

Personally I don’t think they can force a vaccine for you to travel some airlines have said they will accept no vaccines I find it a bit strange I’ve declined the flu vaccine as well.. Until anything is set in stone then I won’t listen to the news because the scare mongering just makes me anxious. I don’t think I will have the vaccine because I agree with @Kitt one minute we are told no next minute yes. I’m by no means an anti vaccine person as I have had more than most to travel to various countries I just don’t feel I want this one quite yet. Changing the subject I have been awake since 5 trapped wind and feeling sick 🤢 @Bwacac I I think your story is lovely and made me smile my partner also didn’t really want another child then he changed his mind and this is our first together he is now really happy x

Sorry you're feeling down ❤
I've been lucky in the sense that I'm not close with my own family but I do normally see my best friend, especially for support when pregnant but haven't seen her since July, right before I found out I was pregnant.

I keep thinking about when the baby is here and if this all continues, we won't be having days out or anything.
I keep getting excited about the idea of all 3 kids on a nice day out and then think I just can't see it happening.

It's such a crazy thing to go through and I guess maybe it'll be a story for then they're older 🤷🏼‍♀️

Seen so many people say "Well you chose to have a baby during lockdown"
Whilst partly true for a lot, I don't think anyone expected it to be like this and especially not to last this long!

On a side note. Managed 2 whole hours sleep last night 😑
Forcing myself to eat strawberries because I very nearly picked up a tub of mini caramel shortbread for breakfast 😂
I am sorry you both @WhatABore @Tui are feeling down I do think we all feel this way in some ways but especially if you have been pregnant all the way through lockdown as I am hoping I can actually see people before September however I sometimes feel like there is no hope. The only thing which keeps me sane is seeing my friend I don’t think I am meant to do this but we go to Starbucks drive through in our own cars then park next to each other and talk through the window. However she is self employed and cannot work at the moment if she was an nhs worker I would think twice. When your children are born and old enough to understand think how amazing it is to say you were created and born in the pandemic and something so wonderful came out of something so scary x

About hats on babies, I never knew. The whole time we were in hospital, with my first, we were told to have him in a hat so when we were at home we put a hat on him. The midwife came to check on us after our first night at home and was really nice about it and just said they don’t need a hat on anymore. I don’t have a clue why or what’s different but you’re definitely not the first person to not know that your baby doesn’t need a hat. Screw whoever made you feel bad about it - no one can know everything

I am always massive when pregnant. My bump is always huge, even though my kids are average size. I’m not super skinny or anything either, I just seem to carry them all out front!

Like When poor Kate Middleton has to parade in front of the media in a light coloured dress hours after giving birth! Light colours and post partum shouldn’t go together!!
This is why I don’t think Meghan Markle gave birth to Archie. Who the feck wears a white belted dress within 48 hours of birth. I call bullshit

I think it probably won’t make things worse or better but if you’re not feeling right and your mind is elsewhere then I’d take the day off work. Have you tried calling the early pregnancy unit? X
I texted my manager to explain and she said to take the day off and try to speak to midwife before coming back in. She’s really really nice. I haven’t called EPU today but I might do tomorrow.

I had a thought today, one for those of you who are already mums... what are the “non essential but essential” things that you would recommend buying? There’s all the obvious stuff we need like the pram, cot etc but are there any other bits that that are good to have ready for when the baby is born?
-A bath that you don’t have to hold them in. We have an old fisher price, which has been passed round the family and done 9 kids. Couldn’t be without it, it has a sling section for when they are really tiny, then it has a ridge underneath for when they are bigger. Loads of similar ones available from other brands no doubt. Anything that lets you have two hands to bath them rather than trying to hold them
-A stretchy wrap (or another suitable carrier) for when they won’t be set down but you have to actually do stuff/want to do stuff

Also the other way- things that people buy that I’ve never found essential/owned
- a changing unit. We don’t actually even use a changing mat anymore. We just change them on the sofa and nothing untoward has ever occurred!
- baby wardrobe/chest of drawers - we just have a standard IKEA chest of drawers
- baby toys - never have I had a baby interested in baby toys. They like everything else under the sun, except purposefully bought toys (I’m talking things for 0-6 months, really baby toys). Just whack them a wipes packet or an empty water bottle and they’ve hours of fun.

I remember getting a telling off in the hospital with my first because I put a hat on him, I was confused as they put and left a hat on him after he was born so I just thought it was right, now I do know your not suppose to and haven’t since but it is all very confusing and you can’t expect to know everything! I’ve been a mum for 10 years and I definitely don’t know everything!

However I'm getting an awful tight feeling chest pain recently, may be indigestion but I just wanted to check if that's normal?
Sorry this is my first so sorry if that's a really stupid question
As other say - Definitely get it checked. In pregnancy, get everything checked I say! There’re so many weird and unexpected symptoms.
Don’t panic though, indigestion is totally normal (and getting out of breath/feeling a little restricted can be too.)

I think I’m in some kind of false labour 😳
39wks.
I’m getting really strong, low contractions unlike the braxton hicks I’ve been having which are high, but they’re not on a regular time. They were every ten mins, then 8 then went away completely and now back again. And I think I had the start of a ‘show’, or something unusual at least this morning.

How the hell do you know what’s false or real? Why are pregnancy symptoms so confusing 😩

YAAAAAY I am sure we have all been waiting for you to post on here so really happy everything is ok! What did the baby look like on the screen does it resemble a baby or still a little blob? I bet you are feeling very relieved. X
Haha thank you. Baby is like a big jelly bean with arms and legs. That’s the only way I can describe it lol. Yes so relieved, just got home and cuddling with the dog and having a cup of tea and chocolate chip cookies 👍🏻

Just to say if anyone is worrying about having an internal scan- it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I was anticipating. I hate having smears etc but the scanning probe thing (looks fricking huge!!!) wasn’t uncomfortable at all x

Can’t remember if we’ve discussed this but anyone got any thoughts on getting the covid vaccine while pregnant? Don’t know if we’ll be offered it before we are all due but I’m leaning towards waiting to get it til after baby is born.
My mum works for the NHS and said they've recently (this week) been given new guidelines that say pregnant women can have the vaccine. I'm not sure how they've come to this decision though as I can't imagine many pregnant women would be happy to have it trialed on them!? I definitely won't be having it until I've had the baby, regardless of what the guidelines say.

Ah guys, not great news. It seems one of the twins hasn’t made it. Only one in there now. That one is doing really well, moving lots, hands and feet moving. Obviously so so sad but trying to be grateful of that one lovely little baby in there.

sorry not to have better news for you all x
Oh kitt 😢 that’s so sad I am so sorry. On the other hand I am so happy
Thanks everyone. We’re very tearful but we’ll be okay.

We decided to name the twin which passed away Shepherd. He’ll always watch over his twin x🧡
just caught up 😢 I will light a candle for Shepherd tonight if you don’t mind?
how bitter sweet - take great care of yourself my love x

I always thought I’d never want to find out but now I’m pregnant I really want to. One of my friends said it quite well - that pregnancy is uncertain enough that knowing the sex is something you can control (as long as they get it right!)
I wish I could leave it as a surprise. I'm planning on having an early private scan to find out, I'm a control freak and need to know! 🤣
Oh yeah we're having a scan on Valentine's day (not booked because of that day just can only so sunday's because of my husband's shift work) we booked a package of scans because of previous losses so we have an in-depth 2nd trimester scan and the gender is included so not long to wait

With my little boy we had a gender scan and the lady was trying for about an hour to find the gender, she thought he was a girl for 45 mins then he opened his legs quickly and shut them so she couldn't be sure, so I booked a scan the same day for a different place to see if they could see 😂😂 that is how impaitent I am!!
