So far, it’s just info from ‘a source’ and not proven. If they later provide demonstrable evidence, surely itv will be finished!

If they are putting it in print they have proof. If they don't then that would be answerable in court. That has been through lawyers and whoever has given them it has done so under condition of anonymity.
