Trigger warning. Been 50 for 10 months Well I've been lucky up until these past few months, so want to stab everyone in the eye , hairs falling out ,but sprouting quicker than I can pluck on face . And worst periods, pain & clots(size of eggs) of my life . Feel like I could kick the tit out of the most understanding man I've ever had because he walks in the door , I think my symptoms were paused due to 4yrs of constant bereavements and this besides my Type1 diabetic daughter is my now my focus , this and cooking .

New to this thread and looking some advice .....I'm 43 and for the last few months my cycle has changed. Period is coming every 2.5 - 3weeks. It's lasting longer and heavier. Also my boobs are aching for a good 5-7 days before it actually starts. Do I need to see my doctor about this of its perimenopause?
I was regular as clockwork beforehand. Only other thing I've really noticed is that I'm loosing a lot of hair on my head.
Any advice welcome xx

These are things that are definitely peri symptoms but it's still worth getting other things checked out so I'd ask your doctor to do blood checks for any deficiencies. In addition, I'd suggest monitoring your symptoms using something like the Balance app as there are likely to be other things you've not connected with peri.

Does anyone have tips for dizziness / lightheadedness in peri? Having palpitations too which add to the lovely mix.
Dr says it’s anxiety but I have absolutely loads of peri symptoms, it’s just the dizziness is the worst.
I thought it was my ears but apparently not. Never felt so weird / not myself in my life.

I just put in an online request at my GP for an HRT consultation after months of procrastination.

Last period sep 2024.
Low mood, irritable, no motivation, tired ALL the time, hot flushes, restless legs, sleep disturbances, acid reflux, headaches. Anxiety getting worse

I’m optimistic that it will help me feel better but I’m worried that it might make me really hungry and I really don’t want to be driven to eat more as I already need to lose a couple of stones.

HRT really helped with my anxiety and night sweats, it took a lot longer for the anxiety to get better (very gradual over a few months so worth keeping notes) but the night sweats when in a couple of weeks unless I was generally under the weather with a bug or something which I can cope with. It's made zero difference to my appetite and I've not put on any weight but has made me more motivated to exercise and less tired which helps in the long run.

I put 3.5 stone on when I started HRT, I didn’t change my diet or exercise at all it just literally piled on. I came off it and the weight has now gone (with the help of Mounjaro) the constant weight gain outweighed it helping other symptoms for me. Not saying I won’t go back to HRT if I need to but be prepared that there may be weight gain. You just have to weigh up how much it affects you compared to the other symptoms you have

Sounds like you definitely need HRT.

Zero appetite increase or weight gain for me on it. I think it depends on the progestogen in your HRT and how you tolerate it. I know from when I used to take the Pill that the only progestogen I can tolerate is Norithesterone which is in my HRT patches. Every other one I tried made me ravenous so would gain weight! It’s trial and error when it comes to hormones.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

This is so true, I was given the tablets and they just did not agree with me, I swelled up like a balloon. Patches were slightly better but didn’t stop the weight gain. Only other option I was given was mirena and that did not appeal in the slightest so I stopped. Lots of chat about ‘natural’ vs ‘fake’ progesterone but not all will work for everyone so better to get something that suits you

Can I ask which patches these are? Norithesterone is the only one I can tolerate too so have been nervous about HRT

I put on weight with the mini pill but nothing with the HRT and it made me have more energy which meant I could exercise more.

I think the best advice is to get as much info as you can and talk to a understanding GP - although thats all hard because of course with womens health there is nothing simple and straightforward but we shouldn't suffer in silence

I’ve had really bad dizziness and feeling off balance for about 18 months now. The doctor put me on Betahistine about 9 months ago which hasn’t got rid of it completely but has made it a lot more manageable. Don’t know if that’s worth mentioning to your GP? I’d convinced myself I had a brain tumour at one point, it was that bad.

Thanks! Is the Betahistine long term, and do you take it every day?
GP didn't want to give me anything for it but I insisted and he gave me a trial of cyclizine, I took one and felt awful (so woozy and sleepy) so I haven't touched it since. Right now I will try anything though! Chronic dizziness is absolutely awful, makes you feel like you are going mad.

I experience this in peri. It’s awful. Shame your Dr putting it down to anxiety as it’s definitely a peri symptom as are palpitations. It’s when estrogen levels are fluctuating.

I take it 3 times a day every day. It’s not got rid of it totally but it’s so much better. I did genuinely think I had a tumour at one point last year though, it was so bad.

I had this for a few weeks recently but it seems to have passed for now. Alcohol exacerbated it so I cut down significantly. I didn’t find any coping mechanisms really - I just had to sit down or go slow and steady when it happened. It mostly happened upon waking for me.

The sleeplessness is currently my only symptom other than irregularity (previously had major migraine spike which gp said was peri) - how do people cope with the lack of sleep? It’s killing me.

I don’t have the sleeplessness - but in periods of my life when I did I took nightnurse. It is like going under a general anesthetic. Chemists can get a bit fretful so I used to go to a different one each time. I did only take it for a three month period. Take about 7.30pm for bed around 10.

I've been taking ibuprofen for a headache I couldn't shift and I've had good, solid sleep for a change but could well be a coincidence
