Frozen shoulder and tennis elbow are common in peri. I’ve had both.
My manager (who is also in peri) had frozen shoulder a while ago. Then poof! It went.

How long did you have yours for? Did you get treatment or just manage the pain/do exercises/stretches etc?

Mine was during lockdown, so had to speak to the physio over the phone who then emailed me exercises and said she’d contact me in 6 weeks but never did! I waited a while before even contacting the GP so I’d say in total I probably had it for a year but the tennis elbow was worse but the exercises really helped.

I have a few friends in peri who have also had frozen shoulder. One has had steroid injections but they haven’t worked that well.

TV menopause doctor concerns probed by watchdog https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp8e5y4e83lo

I’ve seen Louise criticised quite openly by some other menopause people (for want of a better term) inc Dr Liz O’Riordan so this is interesting. I really hope it doesn’t scare people away from HRT though.
One of the issues other Dr's dislike is she is doing well for herself. She has clinics, podcasts, talks, newsletter, etc etc. Other people find this as a threat. Louise is an advocate for menopause women.

She is an advocate but she's also a zealot and prescribes HRT as a first resort, and often in high doses. She also will not accept criticism. Personally, I just hate how this area is so fractured and we are suffering. We still have GPs not listening, some over prescribing, some women suffering in silence and some still scared off by out of date data.

The ONLY upside to constantly running hot and flushes is not spending money on heating, I can’t hear the thought! (I’ve never been one for heating anyway, 19c has always been been my limit!)

Do hot flushes coincide with increased heart rate?

This is a seriously wrong take. They are concerned she is harming people. Putting it down to jealousy is very odd.

This is such a great post. You’re so right that we’re all suffering because no one seems to be able to agree on an approach.

My mum went through peri and menopause believing that she’d get breast cancer if she took HRT. As a result she really suffered. This was 25 years ago.

I’m very much in favour of HRT and will consider it sensibly when the time is right - I’m peri now. Mum was astounded when I said I’d take it. She still believes it to be unsafe, but there’s so much misinformation all round.

Torn about Dr Newson. She’s got the conversation about menopause going, but some of the things I’ve heard about her staff, and her approach to dosing medication are shocking. I read her book, and it was good - but she IS a zealot…

I’m going to watch the documentary about her with interest. It just makes me angry that women’s health always seems to be an afterthought.

I'd recommend Dr Jen Gunter. I'll preface this by saying she is a critic of Newson on this very issue. I do feel she is very wise and has a more nuanced view that HRT is a great treatment for some but not everyone needs it. She believes that menopause should not be seen as a disease to be treated. Treat the symptoms of menopause, if you have them.

I requested an appointment to discuss contraception and vaginal estrogen on the online portal last Monday. It's been pending since then and they've given me a telephone appointment later on in October. So between me placing my request and actually getting to speak to someone, I could have gone through an entire packet of birth control pills. I'm not even hopeful I'm going to be any further forward once I've had the phone call.

Anxietttyyyy

I already have an anxiety disorder but it feels so much worse when the 'hormone' symptoms are present too. Like turbocharged PMS.

Yeah I think it's difficult for women to navigate all of the conflicting opinions/info and find what's right for them.

I haven’t heard of her but will research. I’m not on any HRT but I’m starting to feel I need it for certain things. What’s her take on bone health after menopause without HRT? It’s such a minefield out there I don’t know what to believe

Has anybody else experienced nausea/dizziness during peri?

I’ve had it on and off for a few weeks now, although not too badly. I’ve noticed that when I drink alcohol, it brings on a worse dizzy spell or nausea the next morning, even though I’ve drunk moderately.

Yes, all the time, it’s awful!

had the constant nausea too for quite a while and I'm so off most food. just don't know if it's meno or my anxiety

anti nausea wristbands as recommended on our food and drink threads have helped a bit

eta, dunno if it's related to meno, but so many foods just hit different now. like, I can really crave something but then it just doesn't taste right

yeah i had it a few years ago, being a bit dizzy/lightheaded very randomly. i now think it was early days of my peri journey cos a similar time with my anxiety kicking off too. It’s only on ocassion though

The nausea thing is frustrating though, very random and sometimes after eating a very full meal, other times not. I think it’s probably worse certain times in my cycle. It’s not affecting my eating though!

Yes! Oh my God, it’s awful. That and the headaches, I convinced myself I had a brain tumour last year because it was that bad. Even when I’m just sitting down, I’ll get that feeling of being off balance, I hate it.
