She is an advocate but she's also a zealot and prescribes HRT as a first resort, and often in high doses. She also will not accept criticism. Personally, I just hate how this area is so fractured and we are suffering. We still have GPs not listening, some over prescribing, some women suffering in silence and some still scared off by out of date data.
This is such a great post. You’re so right that we’re all suffering because no one seems to be able to agree on an approach.
My mum went through peri and menopause believing that she’d get breast cancer if she took HRT. As a result she really suffered. This was 25 years ago.
I’m very much in favour of HRT and will consider it sensibly when the time is right - I’m peri now. Mum was astounded when I said I’d take it. She still believes it to be unsafe, but there’s so much misinformation all round.
Torn about Dr Newson. She’s got the conversation about menopause going, but some of the things I’ve heard about her staff, and her approach to dosing medication are shocking. I read her book, and it was good - but she IS a zealot…
I’m going to watch the documentary about her with interest. It just makes me angry that women’s health always seems to be an afterthought.
