Just want to give a massive hug to everyone. Peri is awful and so glad we have platforms where we can discuss our concerns, get advice and just be supportive. x

Does anyone use the Flo app?
Yes I do, but there isn't a menopause bit to it, so for eg if you put in your symptoms or periods, it'll analyse it like if your late you could be pregnant as opposed to in peri. And if you have bloating it's because of periods. I haven't found anything else better.

I use it - been doing so for a few years now. I’m 44 and think I’ve been in peri for about 2 years (according to my Dr it’s ’impossible’ until I’m 46 🤬) I do find it useful for logging all my symptoms and keeping tabs on the dates/due dates of periods etc. it’s quite intuitive as well and will adjust dates slightly if you’re logging a later ovulation or something. It’s really helped me be more aware of my cycle and my moods - I’ve got PMDD and endometriosis too which are making things extra fun.

One caveat is that they had to send an email out a year or so back saying that despite telling all their users they’d never sell or share personal data… they had done… and a lot of women got rightly angry about it. I cancelled for a while but went back.

I know dry skin has been mentioned, but has anyone, out of the blue, developed Rosacea? I noticed this a couple of months ago, when I'd go out for an afternoon walk. I'd get home, and instead of having rosy cheeks, they looked more aggrevated from the cold air with those telltale little red dots.

A quick scan of Google seems to suggest that while not officially linked (like so many symptoms) a sudden onset of Rosacea can coincide with the onset of Peri.

Now my usual facial products are causing tightness and sensivity (cheeks only). I've just stopped using my foaming cleanser, as I read foaming washes are a big no for Rosacea, and went back to a gel wash I've used before, and there was less redness. But then as soon as I put on my toner, it reddened up, and then my it stung quite a bit when I applied my regular moisturiser.

So looks like I need an entirely new skincare regime 😭

Does anyone have any recommendations? La Roche-Posay seems to get mentioned a lot, although far more expensive than I'd hoped for. Anyone tried it, or anything else?

I started suffer With Rosacea in my late 30’s the thing that worked wonders for me was Liz Earle cleanse and polish and also Elemis sensitive face wash and the Marine cream.

Recently I’ve started in Medik8 retinol and their face cream/vit c oils and I’ve been ok with that. Make up wise I use IT cosmetics as it gives an evened out tone and Bare Minerals, anything mineral based is good.

For context I used religiously Clarins for years and it stung like anything when this flared up, then I tried lots of hypoallergenic ranges which were all no good for me either.

Try and get the small travel sizes to start with or go into boots and ask for testers they are pretty good with that.

This 100% I'm so shocked too. I also still can't believe my own mum never talked to me about it. She went through early menopause at 40 and never thought to tell me until I was 38! Like wtf??? I'm so glad more women feel comfortable talking about it now
My mother was of the generation that didn't talk about anything at all. My GP once asked me when my mother went through menopause and I had absolutely no clue at all. My kids both know I'm going through it, I think they should be aware!

I've just bought a menopause book by an endocrinologist. I've decided I'm not listening to GPs, however well meaning. I'm a bit wary of Louise Newsome now.

I have had rosacea for a few years. Not sure if its to do with peri or not. I mainly now only struggle at this time of year when we're changing seasons. It flares up if I get too hot. Or too stressed. For me keeping the skin moisturised helps as it seems to go very dry when flaring. I also get the little bumps.

Dermalex for Rosacea is as good for me as the antibiotic get the Dr prescribed. It is a bit pricey but I only use it for a week or so usually and a little goes a long way so it lasts.

Day to day I am OK with Simple facial washes and moisturisers. I also use Aveeno as a moisturiser which is cheaper than specialist stuff. I find Boots No7 cleansing lotion for Very Dry Skin quite good for taking make up off (the purple one). I don't use a toner as anything like that or exfoliating things is a no no for me.

Make up I use Cliniques rosacea range. Its supposed to have ingredients in to help the skin and in my experience it does help calm things down. It lasts well and for me feels worth the expense.

The Aveeno Dermexa balm is really good for very dry skin. I feel like it really moisturises in a very noticeable way and the effect lasts. My skin feels completely different when I use it. I don't use it every day just for a boost every week or so.

I did ALOT of research when i first started with it and unfortunately it is very hit and miss. What works great for one person can be a disaster for another and as alot of the targetted products are so expensive its really demoralising when you find you can't use something. I wish you the best of luck.

Skin+me has been really good this time. My redness has really reduced. The first time I tried it ages ago I didn’t get on with one of the ingredients but the prescription is different this time, no anti ageing this time

Thank you for the skincare tips. I've made a note of everything suggested 🩷
Same here, I am in the same boat and have saved all the suggestions. Thanks everyone!

I have just finished a course of lymecycline for the second time. First time it worked a treat but the side effects were awful (affected my mental health, stomach pains, anxiety). Second time i hasnt worked at all but had no side effects this time. Fed up, I shouldn't let it bother me but it does. 😒

I promise I'm not following you around but this is interesting. I had a massive reaction to it (burning mouth, swollen tongue) when I first used it but I'd be up for trying it again if the formulation has changed.

Is anyone else suffering from hairs suddenly sprouting on your chin and jaw line. I’m literally plucking 8 hairs + a day out from my face every evening. I’m pale and blonde yet these hairs are either white or thick and dark.

It’s personalised based on your answers about your concerns and looking at your pic. I wonder if it was the same ingredient that set me off? It set off my eye condition along with making my skin flaky and I obviously couldn’t use it after that. The one now is niacinimide and azelaic acid and has been fine.

I can go one better and say that the hairs I have have grown a third version lately, really thick white ones that never have the follicle when you pull them out but usually do have a spot adjacent, like a white bump under the surface. Grim

Yes! And always much more noticeable in the car mirror for some reason.

It’s very unforgiving. The rear view mirror. Sometimes I look like I need a full shave 🤣

When they come out of moles in threes…

Or when you go into the work loo and notice you’ve missed one for a few days and it’s over a cm long 🙄🫣.
