Generally, memory is okay (so far) except for names. I've never been great remembering names but it's awful now and the same with spelling. I'll check how to spell a word and by the time I've finished typing or writing it, I've forgotten again
The spelling issue is mad. I used to be a natural speller, now find myself googling words continuously. I also became quite disorganised which was a bit worrying. I did think I had early onset dementai

Anyone following any particular diet/healthy eating regime?
I’m on a programme with a trainer and the nutrition guidance I’m given is 115g protein, 50g fats and 140g carbs per day. I’m looking to lose weight so my calories are lower than you might want. But I generally don’t look at calories, just these nutrient values.

I also lift weights, do yoga and walk 55k steps a week. Some weeks this doesn’t happen because you know, life gets in the way but that’s my intention each week.
---
The other thing I use is collagen in my food. I have a spoonful in my cereal or yoghurt. The brand I use is ancient and brave but there are loads of companies out there. Davina uses that brand and I’ve been using it since lockdown. It’s supposed to help with memory and skin and hair etc. I haven’t yet suffered with big brain fog but whether there’s a connection between that and collagen I can’t say

I've been suffering with absolute rage (never had before). incredibly low mood, excruciating joint pain (mainly hip and neck but also other random aches across my body which obviously trigger instant health anxiety), insomnia, zero sex drive and random misuse / mixing up of words all of which has gotten progressively worse over the last 3 years or so. It was all so gradual that I only really realised what it could be in the last few months after (thankfully) exhausting all other terminal health conditions.

My husband has been largely incredibly supportive and has attended doctors appointments with me and just listened and hugged me in those really low moments.

However, what has really changed things for me is CBD oil and red light therapy.
I'm taking 3 drops 3x per day of 20% CBD oil (I worked up to this and it seems to be my sweet spot) and a bottle lasts me a month and costs about £20. We also bought a red light panel for multiple reasons but I swear my quality of life has increased 100 fold 95% of the time since using this and the CBD oil.
I still have occasional hormonal "surges" which tend to result in low mood but the effects are much shorter and as I can keep a journal now, I'm much more equipped to predict and manage it.

The red light therapy panel wasn't cheap (approx £1k) and I know there is a cost of living crisis but I would honestly recommend it if you can afford it and it can be beneficial to the whole family too.

Intermittent fasting- I put on 10kg over 1year on HRT which was shocking given I’ve been the same weight for over 20years previously. Since stopping HRT I’ve been doing IM which completely resolved my horrible period issues, anxiety and libido slowly improving, back in my 10-12 size clothes.

A day or two before my period I notice struggling with finding the right words sometimes so def connected to hormones. I take evening primrose oil, magnesium spray for sleep and vitamin d.

Protein is a priority, I don’t calculate food however roughly aim for 60+ grams of protein daily. Lots of veggies/ pulses/ nuts and some carbs. Have never had much of a sweet tooth however since doing IM + more protein the desire to eat sweet stuff is all but gone- a square of dark chocolate and an occasional scoop of ice cream once in a while.

I walk loads 8000+ steps a day most days and do some Pilates. I used to do lots of HIIT and kettlebells but find it too stressful on the body in the last year or so.

Any recommendations for a product that helps dry itchy scalp that I've never had before? Curly hair if that's pertinent to anyone. Thanks.

I’ve started taking omega three supplements and found they are helping my dry itchy skin.

My second period of the month ended 3 days ago. I now have begun the 10/14 days of breast pain and cramps before the next. 😞

So glad to find this! I’m in a strange situation as I think I’m going through peri. My younger sibling started 5 years ago in her early 40’s and I’m surprised I hadn’t. However, end of 2023 I did begin to realise that for the first time I was having a number of different period symptoms. I’ve always been very lucky and usually had no symptoms and they would last 3-4 days. I didn’t think much about it as to everyone else this is what they went through on a normal period- tender breasts, cramps, bloat, emotions etc. But reading here some saying any change can be an indicator.

This is really interesting - I've heard about red light therapy - which one did you go for? I take CBD as well but find its a bit hit and miss - have tried a few brands so if you dont mind sharing that as well 😂

Of course! :D

We eventually went with a brand called blockbluelight after watching a really good summary video on YouTube by a guy called Alex Fergus who has done comparative reviews of the top brands over the last few years. They also had 20% off at the time we bought and I think they do fairly regular sales, Black Friday, Xmas etc...

I'm not in the UK so I'm not sure if you'd be able to get the CBD oil I use but I'm happy to share! :) I actually went to a shop and talked to the guy about my issues, the main things I wanted to target was the joint pain, inflammation and insomnia and he recommended this: https://www.cbdeau.fr/huiles-cbd-full-spectrum/huile-cbd-20-full-spectrum-cbd-eau-1941.html - As I said, I really rate it but (and obvs I don't know how you take yours and this is just my opinion) I do think it's important to take it consistently, so preventively though rather than reactively, if you know what I mean.

I’m 45 this year and I’ve found

Menopace ( just a collection of vitamins etc)
Evening primrose oil, two months in I have absolutely a difference in aches and pains
Vitamin d but I take th in winter anyway
I also have baths in magnesium flakes once/twice a week but maybe I need to restart the spray too

I’m a big believer in nutrition and exercise. Really helps my moods and I do think some of that is hormone related. No fad missing out food groups but adding lots of veg/fruit/grains/whole foods/seeds and upping. that protein! where possible. If I want chocolate I have it and you can prise my crisps out of my cold dead hands.

I don’t fast as such as I have coffee with milk but I tend to eat brunch at 10-11 ish and an early tea then stop eating. Lots of water. I maybe drink a glass or two of alcohol a week. Occasionally more but I regret it! Does not agree anymore

Exercise is currently yoga ( basic but done for years no fancy headstands for me) resistance bands/mini bands, kettle bell, spin ( bike at home) I also walk a lot and we try and get out into nature as much as possible when not raining for 125353 days

I’m not against HRT if we need it. If my symptoms worsen I’ll be at that GP! Everyone is unique in symptoms and wishes. I feel we do owe it to ourselves to also focus on our wellbeing and look after ourselves and our bodies better though.

The absolute worst thing for me has been itchy ears. I didn’t even know it was a symptom until recently as I wear hearing aids and despite never having problems, thought the itching must be them. I could gouge them out some days!

Same here with alcohol, my body does not want it anymore. I hadn't had a drink for around 6 months and my sleep improved so much and no hot night sweats. I had a few wines 2 nights over Christmas and both times I woke very early hours roasting hot and wide awake for the rest of the night

Anyone suffering from hair loss? To be honest I can cope with the other symptoms but the thinning hair is making me upset. I’ve always had fine thin hair but can notice the thinning a lot more.
I can’t have hrt until I have had a scan as have had fibroids fairly recently and so need to make sure those have definitely gone.

Any one used supplements that worked?
I used the Solgar hair skin and nails supplement.
I noticed my nails becoming stronger and then realised my hair had stopped coming out in handfuls. I think there was a little bit of re growth.
I did notice that it quickly wnt to tit if I didn’t take the supplements regulalry. And it look around a month to see any difference. But yes, it stopped it falling out and I think there was a small amount of re growth but my hair has always grown very slowly. If yours is faster you may notice better results.
I did not notice any positive effects from any shampoo I tried. So I’d advise a good supplement over them
I did try an expensive supplement I bought from holland and Barrett - viviscal. It didn’t do anything for me. Solgar gave me noticeable, if fairly modest improvement.

My GP won't refer me for infusions, I've never been higher than a 7 but apparently that isn't clinically appropriate.
It makes me so cross. It would be clinically appropriate in other countries but we are supposed to put up and shut up. I had an online consultation with a haematologist during lockdown about having iron infusions. She said they had a limited budget and it goes to people who have cancer not people like me.
then wrote to my GP and said that they aren’t suitable for me. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I am always exhausted. My hair falls out. My legs are restless leading to terrible sleep problems. But yeah, they just tell me to take iron supplement and do not believe me when Itell them I have for months and nothing changes. And yes, I take them with orange juice on an empty stomach, away from caffeine. But no. They just say take iron. Even though the side effects are terrible and it doesn’t help. My levels go between 4-11. It’s complete bull

Yeah it really affects my sleep. Tbh it probably always did but worse now. I don’t think I’ll ever be tea total because I love a glass of wine but trying to get my partner to understand the palpitations/insomnia/anxiety caused by it! To be fair he is understanding and listens to me about all this. Important as it’s a long road 😂

Well I've just gone the longest yet between periods during my peri journey. 123 days. Had some awful bloating for weeks and then got a few days of bad headaches which I used to get before a period. Wiped the other day and had some slight blood then it stopped then over the last day or two it's there when I wipe sometimes but not others and I haven't really got period pain (in the last year or so I have been having horrific period pain when I never used to suffer that much with it before peri). There is barely any blood, just on the toilet paper but it's feint.

So I wouldn't really class this as a normal period but presumably I should and now I have to start counting again as I'm aware you have to go 12 months without a period before you can be classed as menopausal?
