I know this is disgusting, especially at this time of the day but does anyone struggle with smells and sights to the extent that they make them physically retch since hitting perimenopause? strangely, I'm always fine first thing then worse as the day goes on. Prepping the christmas turkey had me heaving as does feeding the dog most nights. It's grim.
Smells. I’m throwing stuff away all the time.

Yes! I have to be particularly careful cleaning the inside face of my teeth now because if the brush touches my tongue too much I'm heaving. Ridiculous.

So happy to have found this thread. I'm 42, my mom went through meno at 40 she tells me. I have very regular periods but the last 12 months the pre menstrual stuff is insane. The pains in my legs and my full right side really from 7 days out is crazy. And then when my period hits 🙈. It's really affecting my work.

Maybe this is just me but I've noticed my body odour changes now when I'm pre menstrual. It's so changed i worry it's noticeable to other people.
I suffer badly with brain fog. In work meetings I have to write everything down or I won't remember.
Sleep deprivation doesn't help either....

OMG, I thought that was just me. I never even linked it to peri.

Anyone have any success stories with testosterone helping bring back their sex drive?

Anyone following any particular diet/healthy eating regime?
I've cut out alcohol as it made the nighttime hot flushes so much worse. Been trying to eat more blueberries and put chia seed on things where I can, porridge, natural yoghurt etc.

I'm a big fan of essential oils too, I attended a talk by an aromatherapist and she said that the best way to absorb the beneficial properties of essential oils is by using a diffuser. Not for everyone, but I think it helps. Especially a few drops in the bath

I'm just trying to stick to food I know is good for me and avoid the stuff that isn't. I've lapsed on that over Christmas and have noticed that symptoms have been a bit more frequent, but that might be a coincidence. I've not drunk alcohol for about 20 years and have never drunk tea or coffee, so those weren't there to cut out. I do have a terrible Robinson's Apple and Blackcurrant squash habit, but am trying to switch over to water as often as possible! The two main things I've cut right down on are sugar and cheese, which are the two great loves of my life, but I do feel better off them.

(Has a moment's silence for Wookey Hole cave-aged cheddar...)

I empathize so much with this. I genuinely feel like for me this is new, really only realising now that it's occurring right when I'm due and never did before. It makes me so sad that we have to contend with changes that are like this.

I'm feeling much less alone after reading these pages. Thanks to you all for sharing. I'm waiting for LH and FSH tests.

I'm 37, have regular periods but they're much heavier than they used to be and painful. GP who examined me said I have vaginal atrophy - she didn't need to tell me. My last smear was agony despite nurse using the smallest speculum. At the time I put it down to PTSD due to SA. I have zero moisture and no elasticity. Even sitting down funny can cause my tina to tear near my perineum or just above my clitoral hood.

I have no sex drive despite previously having a high one. It's been going on since about August 2021. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2022 but now I see lots of crossover with peri/early meno. The doctor I saw couldn't have been nicer. Of course because I booked a blood test for day 3 of my period (what I estimate), my period arrived early so now I'll either have to wait a month or hope there's been a cancellation.

My MH medicine no longer touches the sides. I don't know who I am anymore.

My mum had her last period aged 57. I thought I had more time. Child dreams were already dwindling but now they're dead.

The halo of sweat on my pillow each morning is grim. The frequent sweat/confusion spells in the day are horrifying.

I recently had an assessment to see if I needed to see a geneticist re breast cancer family history. My risk factor is 1%. I begin mammograms aged 40 and am currently too low risk to be given a genetic test. The assessor I saw with the breast screening clinic said to get in touch with any changes so if I'm given the go ahead for some sort of HRT I will go back to the screening people.

Again, the doctor I saw reassured me that we will tackle it together when my blood results are back.

I hate everyone, everything and every place. Simultaneously love everything so much that I cry frequently. Existentially I'm struggling.

Thank you to you all for sharing.

Also wanted to add that all my muscles in my upper arms have gone to tit - loose skin remains, i have spots all over my back, hair thinning, a huge belly but stick legs, I've rarely felt less attractive as a person. I used to take great pride and enjoyment in applying makeup. Now I don't see the point or joy in anything.

I keep mixing up numbers and forgetting if 13 comes before or after 14. It's a worry. 😔.

If you're still having periods then you can still become pregnant although I wouldn't leave it any longer.

I really feel for you, that sounds so sore. I was listening to a phone in with Jeremy Vine a while back about smear tests and a menopausal woman called in and said the reason some don't go for the tests is due to vaginal atrophy. The Doctor said something helped, I'm sure it was testosterone gel but I can't quite remember.

My periods have been absolutely fine. No issues. Now the first one of the year has been super light. Hardly any bleeding, just dribs and drabs. Then I had weird pelvic cramping during the early hours.

Is this the 'official' start, I wonder? 😬

How is everyone’s memory?
Mine is shocking. It worries me immensely.

Generally, memory is okay (so far) except for names. I've never been great remembering names but it's awful now and the same with spelling. I'll check how to spell a word and by the time I've finished typing or writing it, I've forgotten again

Mine is awful. My short term memory is really poor.

I struggle a bit at work. A lot of my colleagues take the Mickey now but it does worry me.
On a few occasions I’ve been talking to my husband and I stop mid sentence because I’ve forgotten what I was going to say. I used to have a good memory so it does concern me.
My ‘phone is full of alarm reminders too.

I used to be so organised and at home I knew where anything was but now I have to write reminders and I can never remember where I’ve put something.

I can have a conversation with someone then a day or so later I’ll remember parts of the conversation but I can’t remember who the person was that I had the conversation with.

When I’m driving I sometimes panic that I can’t think where I’m going or which way to go. I’m also always forgetting where I parked my car.

I think a lot of it is from lack of sleep. As I have days when my memory feels like it’s improved then next minute it’s bad again.

We’re all supposed to be wise now we’re older but what would we be like if nature had it’s way? Forgetful, with thinning hair and night sweats, anxious and depressed and looking like an egg on legs. Women draw the short straw!
