I’ve not long had a pretty thorough exam with ultrasounds etc after a scare so I’m fairly certain in my case this is a hormonal thing linked to the sore boobs, but absolutely agree it should be checked if you’ve not been examined recently.

It’s a new one on me though, armpit pain and periods. Who knew?
Some people have a lot of breast tissue in their armpits which can be tender

Thank you I’ll have a look at that page, my boobs really hurt for a good 10 days before I’m due on, laying on them at night feels uncomfortable & then it subsides once I come on. I don’t think I’m more anxious but I feel more irritable and stressy than I ever used to, a much shorter patience.
I've been getting this for the last year, when I never used to get it. My periods were always a non event before. Also started getting hideous migraines and missing periods and zero sex drive, even drive for my own 'alone time' both of which were really high.

My GP has just said I'm too young (33) but my mum and older sister both went through early menopause at 44. Been tested for PCOS (normal) and other hormones normal so they've just closed the book on it. Very frustrating.

That’s frustrating if they have just written you off for being too young 🙄 I’m 41 now and I have noticed that I’m also getting period cramps when I come on. My cycle is about 24 days so I feel like I only have about one week of feeling like me! My hubs bought me one of these period tens machine type things so when I next come on I’ll be excited to give it a whirl and see if it offers any relief to the cramps.

It really is! My older sister said she started getting migraines around her mid 30s which means I'm kind of on the same timeline.

I just don't get how my GP can say that having totally normal periods (never used hormonal contraception either so i know my body) and have them drastically changing this year are totally fine.

I am in the very early stages of being peri menopausal (44 in Feb) with my main symptom currently being very heavy periods and since the beginning of December insomnia. I've done lots of reading thanks to threads like these and see lots of people have recommended Evening Primrose Oil and Magnesium. Is it worth me starting to take them now or am I better off waiting for things to get 'worse' before starting?

I'd start them now. I started HRT about 4 months ago and although I knew I didn't feel right I didn't think I was that bad.....however now I feel so much better I realise how I wasn't feeling like myself at all. As women we are so used to just putting up with feeling like crap half the time we feel we have to be so bad to get help.

What hrt are you using? I felt this Christmas was pure struggle. I’m worried about starting and supply issues. I don’t want to gain weight, I just want ME back…

I've got the oestrogen gel and the progestron pills. Haven't had any issues getting them yet. I do feel like myself again and I've lost a few pounds since starting too (Xmas hasn't helped!) but my energy is higher and I don't want to kill the family quite so often in fact for the first few weeks I was so horny my husband didn't know what had hit him!!!

Period ended on Boxing Day. Just come on again. Taking the piss. I need a new supply of cerazette in Feb, going in with my period tracker all guns blazing. I’m not putting up with this for the next 10 years.
Is Cerazette the mini pill? I vaguely remember being on this years ago and it messed me up physically and mentally, I'm sure it's heavy on progesterone which means I can't take hrt as it makes me bleed all the time and gives me PMS symptoms x1000!

Yes. I’ve been on it for over 20 years (for heavy periods). I can’t take oestrogen as I have cluster headaches and it sets them off. Tbh I was fine until 2020 when the tit hit the fan. Now my clusters are awful, periods are awful and everything else is too.

I think that we are all so affected by our hormones and affected so differently, the medical profession just cba to investigate properly. They just say put up with it. My mum had horrific issues, as did my MIL. It’s just endemic.

Start it now, evening primrose will take around 3 months to take effect. Magnesium will help the sleep pretty quickly, make sure you take the correct one and at night. I also combine with zinc.

These are the ones I use after researching, you should take them at night along with Zinc for maximum absorption. They knock me out tbh, be aware they can make you feel a little drowsy in the morning but it eases off as you get used to them. This is the absolute maximum strength you should have though.

Vitamin D is also extremely important and I take 4000iu which is the optimal amount for an adult. A multivitamin containing VitD is near on useless, if you look at the IU content it will be minuscule. This will also take around 3 months to kick in so start it as soon as.

It is really worth reading around about supplements and the benefits, and good quality ones too ie gummies etc are total rubbish.

Obviously check if you are on any medication which could not be compatible with vitamins.

Anyone suffering from hair loss? To be honest I can cope with the other symptoms but the thinning hair is making me upset. I’ve always had fine thin hair but can notice the thinning a lot more.
I can’t have hrt until I have had a scan as have had fibroids fairly recently and so need to make sure those have definitely gone.

Any one used supplements that worked?

Haven't had a period in 3 months but I've been having horrific contraction-like lower back pain for weeks. Dr Google says it's probably endo-related, does anyone know the most effective kind of pain relief?

I was on HRT this time last year, which was great, but went up 3 dress sizes in 2 months (similar to the time I had a depo injection in my early 20s) and became pre-diabetic so that had to stop. My week-long premenstrual migraines did stop at that time and haven't really come back so I'm eternally grateful for that.

Also a megadose of iron really helped with my hairloss, if that helps anyone else. I was prescribed 322mg x 3 per day by a very switched on locum. They helped my hair but not my energy levels, I've found Spatone is the only thing that perks me up a bit. I'm a lifelong anaemic but peri has made it worse than ever.

I’ve always been low on iron. As in several transfusions and iron infusions but just can’t seem to hold on to iron at all. Latest blood test I’m at 4.2. Constantly exhausted but still keep going as have to work.

My GP won't refer me for infusions, I've never been higher than a 7 but apparently that isn't clinically appropriate.

So happy to have found this thread. I'm 42, my mom went through meno at 40 she tells me. I have very regular periods but the last 12 months the pre menstrual stuff is insane. The pains in my legs and my full right side really from 7 days out is crazy. And then when my period hits 🙈. It's really affecting my work.

Maybe this is just me but I've noticed my body odour changes now when I'm pre menstrual. It's so changed i worry it's noticeable to other people.

It's actually your sense of smell that is heightened not you smelling more. I spent about a year smelling dogshit everywhere, before that I could smell fish and was absolutely convinced it was me but it wasn't. Once I started tracking all my symptoms I noticed the fish smell was happening at the same time as the 5lb monthly weight gain and drop in mood.

I know this is disgusting, especially at this time of the day but does anyone struggle with smells and sights to the extent that they make them physically retch since hitting perimenopause? strangely, I'm always fine first thing then worse as the day goes on. Prepping the christmas turkey had me heaving as does feeding the dog most nights. It's grim.
