I think the media articles show how clever Peaches was at getting in first where she could have been exposed. Doesn’t breastfeed & potential eating disorder? Thyroid issue. Kids in hospital for a few days after birth for opiate detox? Traumatic birth.
The Portland hospital turned you down as they don’t detox babies? ‘We kept it real and didn't go private’.
Edited to say that her family must have been a bit disappointed/angry (not in a bad way as I’m sure that they love the child) when she got pregnant so quickly again after the first child being born addicted, maybe that’s why she stuck to the breastfeeding line?

yes but you could lie the same way you could in the nhs. They always asked for access to medical records and sent test results/ scans etc to my GP (who seemed most put out by them tbh 😂)

I guess someone like Peaches potentially used private for some things, the NHs for others and maybe had quite an erratic medical history including treatments abroad etc.
Yes, it's some sort of NHS affliction as soon as they hear the word 'private' they get the a. I just don't understand, especially as it is literally lightening their workload in the long run.

I just wanted to add about valium, well done for getting off it. I have never been on it myself but ive heard so many stories like what you said. I remember when i was at uni and being prescribed Zopiclone by the campus doctor. And my then boyfriend was absolutely thrilled about me getting them so he could take some of them. This was in 2009 and that was the first and last time ive been prescribed them. I presume zopiclone are pretty similar to valium? At the moment im on mirtazapine for my mental health/sleep issues and it was only the other day i found out they are from the same family as Benzos!
Oh god me too!! Really?!

I do buy cocodamol on occasion for migraines and period pain. I am so careful with it and would never use it more than 2 days in a row, I’m quite susceptible to “psychological” addiction anyway and I know the physical element of codeine would be awful.

I was once given codeine phosphate at 14 by a family friend who was trying to help me, I had horrible period pains. I took it and went straight to bed at 4pm, didn’t wake up until the next morning. Scared the hell out of me! It was strong stuff.
The same thing happened to me in my early 20s. I took one and nearly fell out of the chair I was sitting in. I went straight to bed and slept about 15 hours.

When I was working clinically I used to pocket the odd co-codamol (everyone does it) and boy was I glad I did when I had an ear infection last year. It was the only thing that got me seven hours of sleep.

Yes, apparently its from the same family. I had no idea until last week when i went into my drug place to do a screen swab test. They always ask what meds you are taking, and my drug worker explained the link between Mirtazapine and Benzo's!

Yes these drugs are essential in medical situations. But they are so dangerous in the wrong hands for the wrong reasons.

I think mirtazpine is prescribed for those suffering with eating disorders, again don't quote me, I might be wrong, happy to stand corrected.

Her agent also seemed to cover up for her, rather than help!

It's weird because when I have taken them I was obviously sleepy and not in physical pain but I can't imagine wanting to feel that dozy and out of it on a regular basis and I feel awful for people that do.

Methadone has a half life of 36 hours. It is one of the worst drugs to detox from. Toxicity wise it is a lot worse for you than medical grade heroin (can’t spell the word 😂) so a lot of seasoned users that have been in the system for years will not go on it. Socially it is very good, the more users stabilised on methadone, the less crime, less exploitation, better relationships with families and children - the list goes on. In detox units you’ll see heroin users get clean a lot quicker and less painful than a methadone user. But nothing ever compares to a Valium detox, I’ve done two of them, if I ever relapse on Valium again I’ll stay on it. It’s absolutely awful.
Methadone isn’t just used for addiction, it’s also prescribed as a pain medication with people with cancers etc would you believe?! I think it’s because of how long it lasts in the system!
I’m sure my old boss was addicted to methadone. On more than one occasion I witnessed him swig from the bottle then go into a shut down and just zone out. It was scary but he would never admit to having a problem, it go so bad that I couldn’t put up with his up and down temper and left

I had an ED and was prescribed mirtazapine to help with my sleep. Did not know it was part of that drug family but it doesn’t surprise me! I used to take tablets and then wanted to stop and couldn’t, ended up being prescribed the liquid version for years and had to slowly slowly wean myself off it

Tbh the agent could hardly say 'yeah she's a heroin addict'. It wouldn't have been the right thing to do.

I knew I recalled the name. I know someone who found it very difficult to get off, in fact if I remember rightly they ended up they ended up losing a hell of a lot of weight in the process which defeated the purpose. This was years ago, I'm not sure if they still use it as part of the treatment for ED.

I took mirtazpine for a few years as an anti anxiety drug. My understanding is it’s not addictive or as strong as the other benzos described. That said, it’s quite old fashioned, and is usually only used when you have side effects from other similar drugs.
It was used for EDs, I understand it hasn’t been for a very long time because all it does is increase your appetite (as anyone who’s taken it knows!) which is a hangover from the days when people knew very little about ED and thought it could be treated by just eating more, lol.

Yep thats what i used to. Nurophen plus was my favourite because it had 12mg of codeine per tablet. So i used to take 6 of those and then 6 Syndol-because that had 10mg of codeine per tablet. But you are correct, its expensive doing that and thats one of the reasons i moved onto heroin as it was cheaper, more accessible, and more effective for me.
I usually turn to these when my 30/500 co codamols run out from doctor. But determined to make a difference, ive changed to lower dose from my doctor and am slowly cutting them down. So hopefully I get there. Your journey is inspiring, u have done amazing xx

For sure, but she has a OD then 3 days later is a film premiere!
Yes, her life was completely out of control for sure. It was much too late for Bob to make any demands, the horse had well and truly bolted. Why on earth he left those girls do their devices I will never know. It was an accident waiting to happen.

It's a gossip forum!
Still tit though.

If she had been in the methadone programme for 2.5 years, as per the report, she would have been on methadone throughout both pregnancies with her boys, who were 11 and 23 months at the time of her death.

Someone mentioned earlier that a baby born to a mother who has been using methadone is born addicted, and as such, has to stay in hospital while he/she withdraws from the drug. Seeing as both boys must have been born addicted, as Peaches was in a methadone programme that she commenced during the pregnancy of the eldest child, surely there must have been a multidisciplinary team supporting the family? They can't just have been discharged from hospital to fend for themselves?

Also, seeing as she started the methadone programme 6 months before Astala was born, that must mean that he was conceived while she was an active heroin user?
Not necessarily. I’ve worked with addicts who are completely sober when they’re pregnant. They usually are tested regularly.

Yes it can be used for eating disorders as its supposed to 'turn on' that hunger trigger- so it makes people feel hungry. But its also used as an anti-depressant and also to aid sleep. My psychiatrist prescribed it to me for sleep issues. It does work, but ive also put on 2 stone since June taking them.

Just chiming in on the Mitch-Winehouse-is-awful tangent to absolutely agree. I mean, in comparison to Bob, I think Bob loves his kids and has been honest about his own failures, but Mitch seems completely impervious to the notion that he could be at fault for Amy's addiction. Happy to blame Blake and others instead of thinking that leaving Amy's mum for another woman had any negative effect on her.
He did a documentary about Amy but made it all about himself, he seemed so smug. And practically forced Amy in front of the cameras at a time when she was in seclusion. I think if Amy were alive today I could see Mitch in a Jamie Spears-type role.
A family member of mine has crossed paths with Mitch Winehouse many times now and has always said how bad he came across in terms of Amy and her problems. He constantly pushed her when most parents would want to look after their daughter and reduce the risk of their addiction/health getting any worse.
