Does anyone on here celebrate the 12th? I’d love to hear a different side of it all.

I found out a friend of mines dads/brother are in the OO yesterday by watching her private snapchat story. A lot of anti Irish chanting going on, I think she forgot to remove me 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

I do not celebrate the 11th, instead I stayed home and watched love island even though I live in a large protestant estate, where the bonfire was relatively close to my home. Am I guilty of going to a bonfire when I was younger yes. However, I now have my own child and I personally felt I had to break the cycle of hatred that bonfires provide by burning something that is so deep rooted to peoples identities, and hopefully the influence of the Craigyhill bonfire will show others that there are stronger and more powerful ways to advance your cause than trampling on someone else's.
I think on this thread protestants are all being painted with the same brush, but for the most part many of us enjoy our day respectively without the need for sectarian or racial slurs. Infact on the twelfth day where I was stood I saw people of many different minorities enjoying the parade. I even saw a band with 2 black males present and was glad to see the diversity. I'm not saying there isn't good and bad of course there is, with some of the mindsets being simply horific but they do not speak for me. There isnt hatred in us all and there definitely is a more positive change from say 20-30 years ago it's just overshadowed consistently by the minority that want to stay in the dark ages. Likewise not all bands are parliamentary affiliated, some instead choose to do only limited parades to ensure they remain professional and proficient and their main goal is to compete against other bands to be the top blood and thunder band of the band scene And on the twelfth, these are the bands I enjoy watching.
Same goes for the internment bonfires so much focus is put on these by the media yet look how far society has came in that respect with the feile an phobail festival being used as a hugely positive and successful way of celebrating irish culture. And the success of this i feel has also been mirrored with the introduction of the woodvale festival that runs during the July holidays. So many achievements are being overshadowed, we need to be reminded at times that the working class people of our country wether they identify as protestest, Catholic, Irish or Northern Irish have a lot more in common with each other than we do with these well off politicians who claim to represent us.

Biden compared Ireland to Palestine. Sure there are parallels but it's far more complex than he made out. Many Republicans in this country are happy re this statement American Republicans not so much. Many many people say he's senile, I'm beginning to wonder if that's the case and I'm basing that solely on the comments he made a couple of days ago.

There was a video from a few weeks back where he read the auto cue instructions out during a speech and a couple of other occasions too which don’t help the rumours that he isn’t mentally capable.

Regarding these latest comments it’s not a very diplomatic comment, particularly with USA links to Israel etc. when he made the 400 years comment I was half expecting him to start singing “Go home British Soldiers”

What makes his comments even more bizarre is that he seems to be actually doing a state visit to Israel at present….

Just read it. I mean I don’t disagree with what he said but very odd that he’d say it in Israel? And I do believe he shows signs of dementia at times.

That's exactly why the catholic estates where I live have chosen to go down the festivel route instead of having fires ,it's dissident republicans that still choose the tradional pyre you're just as likely to see pics of Gerry and Martin on there as you are the Queen , all catholics aren't republicans.

😂 the drunk actor with the southern Irish accent gave his wife £80 but she never made him any dinner😳…£80 in the 1970’s wtf did he work as 😂

Jeez how cowl was it in NI in the 70's 50 blankets on a bed 😂 thank feck for global warming ...Those two dames deserved the George Cross, especially for letting the republican ( catholic ) children wash their van to get them away from wrecking houses and stone throwing 🤣🤣🤣

Somebody stop Jamie before he embarrasses himself any more 🤦🏼‍♀️

I see he’s playing the legal eagle again 🙄 pretty disgusting that he’s going on about fair treatment after what they did but that’s what Jamie’s all about. Defending the indefensible. Where’s the fair treatment for Michaela’s family Jamie?

Came home to a line full of soaked washing. I'd been lulled into thinking it'd definitely be totally fine by reading the heat thread here. I hope our one day of summer is really nice, I really do.
Do you wash clothes again after they've been rained on? Personally I do, but the price of electricity might put an end to that.

Can't believe how heavy the rain is .I do wash them again ,my ma only rinses them , my electricity is running at £70 per week I wonder is it as expensive in England ? I'm sure I read a while back that we've got the most expensive electricity out of the four nations .

Really? My bill is ×3 at the moment. I know people who pay as you go and I think their tariff is even worse, I was considering moving over to payg instead of facing another huge bill :sneaky:
Still a fair bit of money around, retail parks are busy weekdays, could be people taking advantage of sales and upcoming holidays. Friends who own specialist shops say trade is quieter, with sales in the form of gift giving not personal. It'll be an interesting 6 months.

Jeez you must be in a mansion to be running £210 a week electric ,I’d be running for the hills 😂..,it’ll be candles come winter 🤣

Not a mansion, old farmhouse with an extension. I meant 3 x my usual bill 😂 it's always cool and in the winter its like wuthering heights. In saying that in very high temps the going gets tough. Kitchen would put you out year round though, t-shirts only 🥴

Saw this while looking through twitter on joe Biden.
Seems like a strange way to fall off.
My dad is in his late 70’s and definitely isn’t fit to run a country let alone a bath. My mum is much more healthy so I know it can depend on the individual but it really does seem like joe isn’t fully there.
