What do you all think of the kneecap saga? Personally I find it ridiculous that they are moaning about not receiving funding from the UK govt for their songs which are mainly anti establishment. How never they are smart lads and surely they wouldn’t have Joe Brolly representing them if they didn’t have a case.

I’m on the fence.
I’ve had a listen to their music and it does nothing to me musically but that is maybe because I am too old and don’t listen to hip hop
I think they may have a claim in that they got funding but then it was taken away.
I did see a post that specific funding was to forward British groups so maybe it wouldn’t suit them.

however:
The poster they said was ‘art’ had a bonfire with I think Boris and I assume Arlene at the top of it- so if that is art then does that make bonfires with election stuff on it art? (And I know bonfires receive funding locally but if they do so this should or should none of them receive it?)
For needing funding they managed to get a human rights company and Joe brolly on board quite quickly- is this pro bono or are they paying for expensive legal fees themselves as if so do they really need funding.

I don’t give much to the whole “taking the king’s” coin argument as they don’t have a choice in that matter.
I think they are doing a great job at getting attention so fair play to them. I haven’t seen the movie but if anyone has a link I would take a look.

I don’t have an overly strong opinion on it but I think it’s a slippery slope to censorship. They have a legitimate constitutional position and they pay their UK taxes, they are as entitled to UK funding as anyone.
My main take from it, what bleeping great publicity. Gwan lads!

I think potentially there could have been legit reasons to deny funding based on the poster etc and the reasons for funding in the first place apparently to promote British music or whatever but there could be a tricky situation given they got funding and denied it.
I would say there are probably greater human rights issues about but in terms of contract law who knows.
I would rather my lottery money didn’t go to any good causes other than me winning the lottery tbh!

Regardless of their personal feelings Kneecap pay their taxes to the U.K exchequer like the rest of us. Regarding groups obtaining funding from institutions they hate 👇 I’ll just leave this here…

Facts aside I genuinely think the whole thing’s a piss take, they seem to have an excellent PR machine behind them, the more headlines the better 😂

Yeah. To be fair I would love to look into this. None of my family are actually in the oo. Though I don’t have a problem per se and I would like to visit the boyne museum some day from an historical perspective .

best thing would have just been to deny their funding- if they just got denied like loads of other acts it could have been said they just didn’t meet the criteria. However it seems Kemi opened her gob and gave them exactly the publicity they want.

They definitely have a case, it’s discrimination if their application was treated less favourably because of their personal beliefs. They’re entitled to be considered to funding in the same way as anyone else. That said I don’t think they really give a f*ck, they just love creating a buzz and getting people talking, they proved that when they rocked up to sundance in a police landrover 😂 it’s no surprise that Joe Brolly has jumped at the chance to represent them as he’s the exact same 🤣

Yeah, she showed her hand and made it clear they didn’t get funding because of their personal views. Own goal 😂

I think though in the eyes of the court if you are posting in a happy way it could negate a human rights claim assuming that is what their claim is?
As if they get x amount of money over the next amount yet someone else for the same amount of funding gets less that could play a factor? Assuming they lodge all their funds like take payers?

What platform will they use? The new hate speech bill will render them useless 🤷🏼‍♀️

They dgaf, it couldn’t have gone any better for them 😂
Aye, considering their music is shite (IMO) they will probs do quite well off it. (Not a rap fan so maybe others like it, just not for me)
Not quite as well as rage against the machine who all have massive million dollar houses despite trading on the socialist/communist idea. But fair play if they make a few bob.
