what are the unique special intrests sockie has that convinced you she is on the spectrum?
Composting, cooking and Minecraft come to mind. Obviously none of these are particularly 'out there' (although I don't actually know many teenage girls who are interested in composting), but it's the intensity of her interest in these things that stands out to me. She is very passionate about her interests.
Again, it's not just this one trait that makes me suspect she's on the spectrum - it's this put into the wider context of all her other traits and behaviours that, imo, makes it pretty obvious.
That could be, it may not be in females but it is in males.
No, having special interests doesn't make someone autistic lol. A little eccentric maybe, but autism is complex developmental disability. People with autism DO tend to fixate on a single interest/subject and that is almost all they talk about. This is incredibly common with children with aspergers.
I never said that having special interests means that someone has ASD. That's not how diagnosis works lmao. When a professional is assessing someone for a diagnosis of ASD, they will inquire about the person's interests because it's in the diagnostic criteria. The term 'Asperger's' is no longer used, by the way.
it has been suggested that sockie may be on the spectrum and that she hasnt been diagnosed.
maybe because diagnosing females can be very difficult.
i think this less likely.
we know sockie has had the" happy hands" tic from an early age.
the possibility of being on the spectrum almost certainly came up.
she has probably been checked for ASD, and probably several times.
if she is on the spectrum the parents and sockie know about it.
I'm not actually so sure about that. It's only in the last 15 years or so that they've really started to look at how ASD presents in females. It's highly possible that a psychologist/psychiatrist who doesn't specialise in ASD wouldn't be totally up to date with all the more recent literature and would miss it in Sockie
