Seriously though, if there’s a footpath / right of way through a field, and there’s no livestock in the field, it’s basically a given that your dog is fine off-lead as long as you have it under control and in sight.
The other exception would be if crops are growing and you obviously shouldn’t let your dog run all over and trash them.
As this is their regular, pretty much daily, walk, I don’t think it’s anything to focus on. Other walkers would have said it was unusual when they gave their police statements if it was.

Dogs are always off leads in places like this. In parks , fields etc. just cos there’s signs doesn’t mean people pay attention. But I’m not sure why it’s significant because if Willow was on the lead she could easily have dropped the lead if she tripped anyway so either way lead or no lead she’d have become loose.
People in the UK have the right to roam lmao, as long as you’re not barging into someone’s actual garden, damaging crops or livestock, I doubt there’d be an issue. The area is clearly a popular spot for dog walking in general.
That’s just at the campsite though, and who knows what was actually said. The dogs could have been really bothering the chickens and the campsite owner could have given fair warning, but the guests not taken it seriously. I wouldn’t even give one review on a campsite website a second thought in terms of the missing person situation for Nicola. It’s totally irrelevant x

Tbh I’d interpret the review as the dogs were bothering the chickens on the campsite and the owners didn’t like being reminded to keep them on the lead because of that.

Probably the case, I'm not a dog walker, but have done a lot of hiking and cycling. I always get a bit twitchy when I see signs like this, as I've had a few run-ins with over protective landowners. But as you say, probably well tolerated here.
I think that's just a way of completely ruling out the possibility of her leaving on foot, but I don't believe they think she actually did.
