Names you can’t stand

Arabella (named pre artic monkeys)
However I wanted either Estella (great expectations) or Ophelia (hamlet) but was high on drugs and the dad was like yeah Arabella? And text to everyone before the drugs wore off.
For a boy I wanted Holden (catcher in the rye my fave book)
middle names were then after family member
Weird names don’t offend me as long as you spell them how you should!

Not sure if it’s been mentioned before but there’s a mummy blogger who called her child Rosie-Peggy, never shortens it to Rosie, always uses the full name.

It makes my teeth itch

That name doesn’t even go together! Peggy-rose would have sounded a lot better, although I don’t like that name anyway it would have sound less ridiculous

I don't have any particular names I really dislike but it does grate me when people say "his names Charles but we're going to call him Charlie". JUST NAME HIM CHARLIE THEN.

Awww, all the Aurora hate makes me sad. My daughter is called Aurora and I think its a beautiful name. All my children's names have a Spanish/Italian connection due to their heritage. Aurora is a common name in those countries, it means 'the dawn'. We didn't even know it was a Disney character when we chose it 11 years ago. It's pronounced a-roar-ra here but when we are in Spain we use the Spanish pronunciation which is very different. I love it but I do get the cav connotation and it makes me sad because everyone immediately makes assumptions.

On adults, I don’t like Angela or Ang or Angies much. Unfortunately every one I know seems to be a nasty twit. Kims always seem to be a good laugh though.

Thought of another couple of names that i don’t like: Safiyah and Keaton.

Horace was my granddads names he died in 1999, I haven’t heard this names in recent times

I love the name Aurora. Couldn't have used it though because I can't say it properly - it ends up a bit Jonathan Woss. I remember being really baffled when someone asked me if I loved Disney when I mentioned it. I had no idea it was princess related, I got it from a book I read when I was about ten (Hello Aurora). In this book Aurora had a brother called Socrates and I quite like that too. I imagine my kids are quite relieved I didn't call any of them that though

Eunice, Gertrude, Bertha, Helga, Olga, Brunhilda (lol), Prudence, Sue, Myrtle, Peggie, Dorris, Norma, Maudine, Judithe, Colette, Evangeline, Deborah, Bernice, Larissa all just sound really weird and old-ladyish to me. I distinctly remember a story in the news a few years ago about a woman who was mocked for naming her child ‘Abcde’. Like what do you expect if you give your child such a ridiculous name?

My name has been on here multiple times for being way too common but hey I’d much prefer a common name than being called something like Marvelous or Olive or Tuppence or Abcde!

I am shocked to see my own name on this list! Old-ladyish? But as a child of the 60s, names inevitably date.

My mother in law is always trying to call my son by his first & middle name. I correct her every single time he doesn’t have a double barrelled name
