The cup of tea/dinner tea is such a source of debate on MN yet I can’t imagine a scenario where this would ever occur for it to be such an issue. Presumably, unless you are at a family or a friends house or have gone there specifically to eat, it’s unlikely that someone you hardly know is going to ask you to sit down and have an evening meal with them. And if it’s someone you do know then surely it’s just along the lines of:

“Do you want some tea?”
“I’m not really hungry, thanks.”
“I meant a cup of tea.”
“Oh, haha! Go on then, I wouldn’t say no.”
Yeah, it’s not a linguistic misunderstanding that’s going to take long to clarify is it? 🤣

And they all refer to their evening meal as ‘dinner’. My evening meal is tea, I’ve never met anyone who calls it dinner. Ever.
Yes dinner is dinner during the day, teatime is evening meal for us, but it differs around the country. I think the further north you go its probably tea, might be wrong.
Also I felt quite left out as in Ireland we don't have fucking waitrose.

I think it was quite london centric in the early days but I read recently they have over 100 million members now.
I think it still can be, but a couple of the main “It’s done this way in London thus it is everywhere else too” royalty left and WorraLiberty, who used to be quite bad for it, has learnt that other places do things differently so you stand a much better chance of getting the thread started constructively rather than the London lot coming on to hijack it.

The same with school holidays being different in different countries, posters from Scotland used to constantly be called trolls at the point the holidays don’t match with England, but recently it seems to have sunk in different places do things differently.

You're joking me!!! I wasn't really following the D&C stuff until it went OFF!!! But I followed everyone over to reddit for a good nosey. Small world my friend.
I enjoyed the subreddit at first but it went very dark and threatening then that other subreddit appeared and it was just plain scary. I got told by someone I had to chose a side 🙀. That did it for me.

I'm just being nosy but there was a regular poster on there who kept flouncing - she always had Orange in her username - who posted a thread on Mumsnet about wanting to get pregnant without the consent of the man in question (I think!). Anyway, the thread was highlighted on MNTrolls and she got really upset because of course, she's not a troll. Next thing, she's pregnant, no answers as to who the babydaddy is, and she's completely disappeared. I want to know if she had the baby or was she even pregnant in the first place

Yeah I know, lockdown is addling my brain :D
She came along later, I'm sure she wasn't there at the beginning or maybe I'm wrong. I must have missed the whole pregnancy thing. Couldn't work out the reasons for the flouncing and then gave up trying to work out the reasons for any of the tension. In fairness the layout of reddit didn't help with my confusion. I did find the other sub and again couldn't work out the sheer hatred from those quarters either. All very confusing on the whole.
But it appears to be rumbling on, I don't think they have a daily thread anymore or a drinking thread either. Would be interested to know the politics of the place and why it became what it did.
It did start with good intentions to discuss "that situation" as mn deleted anything in regards to it. I don't understand why mn don't allow threads like that, I actually think that type of censorship has created the volatile nature of the place. Members want to get their say in quickly before HQ hit the delete button. Tattle on the other hand doesn't censor and people are for the most part quite measured in their responses, I mean we do have our moments but its not a frantic dog fight or pile on.

It is the most competitive forum I've ever read, only this morning someone has asked if they're allowed to stop and sit and have a banana with their child during their exercise and posters are replying to tell her that as they regularly run marathon distances with barely a sip of water they can't see why anyone else would need to sit down. Lots of that around, 'my 2 year old has been walking 15 miles a day since he was walking so I can't see why your child can't!'

bloody hell 😂 sounds like a totally normal thing to do. The username rings a bell but I must've missed that episode.
honestly couldn't keep up with all the breakoff subreddit finger pointing or trying to work out who was really a troll, windup merchant or just a bemused onlooker like myself lol

I don’t know if it was you or someone else asking a similar question but I read a post like that fairly recently and thought it was a completely valid question. The poster was absolutely ripped to shreds! I am always shocked at how nasty the women who post on there are to each other. And I don’t like the constant anti trans culture either.
I posted mine say around 8 years ago i think. It was one of them were you log off and slowly close your laptop and go...okkaaaayyy....

Booths! Never heard of it :ROFLMAO: I heard a lot about ocado but again we don't bloody have it. Or a John Lewis for that matter. I'm not doing much for my part of the world really. Mumsnet were nice enough to give us craicnet after years of pleading.
Boots is a rather upmarket supermarket than only has branches in the North of England, it’s so posh it makes Waitrose look like Farmfoods.

There is currently an ‘cost of engagement ring’ thread, one of my favourites as it really brings out the craziest people.

There is one poster who claims she would be ‘mortified’ if her husband spent too much on her ring- lets be real, you wouldn’t be mortified you’d love it, and he obviously hasn’t spend a few k’s and nothing wrong with that, but don’t act like you’re above others because you have a cheaper ring and obviously your marriage means more 😆

Hey! I posted on Mumsnet (under various usernames) for years and years (and years) . Until they got hacked, everyone had to log back in & I couldn’t remember my password or the original email address I’d set up with. So I just gave up 🤷‍♀️ And was in “forum wilderness” , where I’ve remained for about 3 years - lurking😳
I lurked on Reddit (didn’t get it) , I lurked on the other Mum sites (my kids are older now so I’m over the breastfeeding chat 😆)
Then THEN a miraculous thing happened... Brummy mummy off Insta sent me over, after her tearful Stories about mean cows on here slagging her. That’s the VERY PLACE for me I said to myself & and here I am , with a log in and everything 😄 So happy!
Any other ex-mumsnetters here? It all got a bit doom & gloom on there didn’t it 😲
I feel like you get your head bitten off on MN just for giving your opinion and there are lots of bullies on it, I can’t be myself on that site and I think most of the women are older than me judging by the things they say, I’m late 30s so they must be late 50s, it’s like some of them aren’t even human, and they hate men!!😂

I was on there. Still occasionally have a quick look but it’s nothing like it used to be.
It’s helped me a bit over the years, people on the Style & Beauty threads are often very helpful but AIBU is awful. I got absolutely slated for asking if an eight year old should be able to wipe their own arse, it wasn’t the fact that I was asking was a problem, it was the fact that I’d used the word ‘arse’. The professionally offended on MN were almost swooning at the word. I was apparently the worst person in the world. And I’m a stepmother, so I’m always wrong anyway.
They are quite pearl clutching types on MN, there was a thread there a few months ago and it was about what kind of house did you live in, and of course the majority of the MN had large Tudor style houses in the Cotswolds etc...of course you all fucking live there! 😂😂😂

I didn’t really get mumsnet, but I am an ex hitched member. Any others here?
I think most of MN are either middle class or pretend to be.

have you ever seen any threads about smoking weed?! Jesus fuck you would think that the poster asked “should I inject smack today in my lunch break”😂😂 they seem awfully sheltered types of folks and I was born without a shelter 😂😂😂😂

They are savages on there. I remember seeing one about someone struggling to pay nursery fee’s & it was like an outrage that somebody didn’t have enough money. Poor woman just wanted abit of advice & she was ripped to pieces cause she wasn’t pretending to keep up with the jones🙄

Mumsnet is a funny one, its a lot of man hating women who actually can’t seem to function without a man in their life.

they all act like they are perfect and men are always the issue.

When i read some of the posts about partners/husbands i always wonder what the other side of the story is.

I knew he was dodgy. Why did he keep getting banned, were people just reporting him. Those threads ran and ran for a long time. See things like that, I'd just let people work away if the poster wasn't asking for money and nobody was at risk.
