I enjoyed the subreddit at first but it went very dark and threatening then that other subreddit appeared and it was just plain scary. I got told by someone I had to chose a side . That did it for me.

Oh yeah Mango and co. That's when I disappeared too, I couldn't make sense of any of it. Sometimes I do go and have a peep but I think I saw a few months back there had been another big fall out.
Its fun on tattle though, much better and nobody seems to be on the attack
Mumsnet can be so confrontational it rather put me off forums.

They seem to wax and wane over there when it comes to the threads - I’m very much convinced that on top of journalists generating content, Justine has staff and interns inventing threads to try and maintain engagement. Some of the writing styles are so blatant and certain topics cycle round with one or two details amended. The most obvious one off the top of my head being the Channel 5 style “how do i git a council house in zone 1 london, fanks”

I still remember when a junior journalist under the handle debbiedoesdallas (sp?) copied and pasted her editor’s instructions without checking - something along the lines of “see what those women at Mumsnet say and publish it” but far less civil, to one of those “tell me about your experience with...” threads.

And I hate to be THAT bitch, but they need to knock off the Daily Mail style videos of that big lassie taking over my screen when I scroll down on my phone. She looks just like every snide young and inexperienced early years teacher I have ever encountered in my life.

One thing I’ve noticed is that there will be a run of threads about the same subjects. For example at the moment there are a couple of threads about how to cook and eat potatoes, a few weeks ago there were lots of threads about lodgers and the problems they cause, before that several threads about living in Lincolnshire!

I created a thread on that about multiple threads running alongside each other about the same topic and was told I was paranoid and just seeing things and then the thread got deleted and I was told it wasn’t in the spirit of the site I wasn’t even slagging it off either, just a thread like “has anyone else noticed...”

I feel a lot of the thread titles are click bait these days that it totally adds up that either MNHQ are planting these threads or that journalists are starting them with the blessing of MN. And many posters just don’t even realise.

There's been some threads lately about the fact that posters can be so horrible to people just asking advice and why.
Well the one I read they all jumped on her and told her to leave the site if she didn't like it, and just proved her point. The poster was just saying sometimes it puts people off posting, which is true.
I'm a stepmother, so in mumsnet eyes I'm the devil. Stepmothers are hated on there
I feel sorry for people in a bad place needing some help, people on there can be vile, it must make them feel even worse.

What happened with the premium membership, I got an email about it but didn't follow up?
Any theories on why posters are so confrontational, I got called out a few times for saying the wrong thing, I really had no idea I said anything controversial and I got absolutely ripped apart by one poster. One! I think I said (light hearted thread) "all men like sex", the poster then educated me on why I was a sexist vile specimen, I felt so humiliated but definitely learned a lesson to think carefully before posting silly comments.

New influx of posters who live on Reddit and Twitter, sites where bullying is encouraged to keep engagement up.

Mumsnet was always a condescending place, especially for not a “mumsnet royal” poster, but the people coming through have exchanged wit and snark for competitive slanging, especially if they can get something into “Classics” or go viral.

I tried to stay in the light hearted threads , the way a serious thread could turn depending on what the first few responses to the OP were was always a bit nervy.

No idea but I’d love to know! I’ve posted about my experience earlier on this thread I think it was at that point I stopped commenting haha. Just kept my account to have the skip through OP posts feature.

I think there’s a lot of bored people who just have too much time on their hands and pick at what other posters say for fun.

Some of it is superiority, picking at spelling and grammar or making a big deal about innocent phrases/statements to stroke their own ego and look important.

Personally I think some political groups are using the site to influence opinion on things and go on the attack around certain subjects - you notice it a lot around election time.

Final theory I have is that a number of men also use the site to bait, ridicule and aggravate genuine posters looking for help. Any site that’s aimed more at women is going to attract weirdos. It’s a shame as there is definitely a market for a website for women to support each other but MN is just too well known and I imagine many posters are just not the typical demographic anymore.

Tattle is less well known and the discussions are more respectful and moderate in comparison.

I think , for what it’s worth , some of the more angry posters were bored and were the very essence of a keyboard warrior getting angry. There’s also an ingrained know it all attitude at Mumsnet.

And the snobbish attitude about nethuns which I found most amusing, I was never a netter although any time I had a look it was clearly a completely different demographic but they did seem to be using the site for baby/toddler/children advice.
It really amazes me that tattle seems to run like clockwork without much interference from mods, on the threads I visit at least. The reddit community was a place to say what you couldn't on mumsnet and anyone in the know can see how that turned out. I wonder if younger posters who have joined have a better Internet etiquette or will they get sucked into the culture and tone of the site.

I think so too. I think some of the trend for similar threads is organic from that, as in if MNHQ or others are planting one about a dodgy landlord, then other people with landlord problems are inspired to post once the seed has been planted.

As I said about the AF post, often there’s something scandalous eg an AIBU where the poster is being beyond unreasonable or a seemingly random post from royalty inspired to create chat when MN are perennially being attacked or someone posts about the premium disparagingly or they’re having massive site issues again, as if to deflect.

I know this was mentioned a few days ago now but I read the thread with the mum talking about the son she had taken off of her when she was in a domestic abuse relationship.

Some of the replies seemed so nasty, I understand having a different view or opinion about what she was saying but they don’t seem to remember there’s a person on the end of it, going through that situation reading all the replies. One just said something like “he already has a mum, his adoptive mum, he doesn’t need another”. Can’t imagine how upset the poster must have been reading that.

I also hate that stupid video that pops up every few minutes!

If AF is who I think she is then I've seen h3r give great advice on the relationship boards. I've also seen her give some snippy silly comments on them too occasionally though.
I also seem to recall earlier in the years that MN didn't like her user name and wanted her to change it. I am going back several years though.

Exactly!! This is what really shocks me about the site in general, how is this deemed ‘not in the spirit’ like the countless threads that are deleted every day. That poor woman was in the absolute pit of despair you could tell, it takes a certain amount of psycho for people to say she’s not a mum even though she gave birth to her son, and yet there were countless comments.
