Absolute gem of a thread tonight:

‘Feeling tearful after Pilates - is this normal?’

Needless to say OP is being reassured that this is of course only to be expected, particularly after reformer Pilates.

How do these women survive in the outside world?

I reckon a lot of them are cocaine users as well. You only have to see bow blasé and dismissive so many of them are about it when threads about coke use appear. When threads about weed appear though it’s a whole other story.
I remember the coke users support thread! I’ve talked about this before. They were all apparently supporting each other to not use anymore, but half the time they’d just talk about how much they loved and missed it. I used to lurk because it was so horrifying. They were all married with young kids and most weekends one of them would post to say “LOL hubby has just texted our dealer so I guess we’re off the wagon!” and they’d all reply saying how jealous they were.

Then said poster would come back on a comedown talking about having to take their five year old to a birthday party and how horrendous they felt, and they’re never ever doing it again.

There was also a thread for codeine addiction which was pretty similar.

Latest is the teeny tinies bewailing the huge fish and chip shop portions.
Wish I could have put this on the thread but I’m banned 🤣

probably some of them would still claim they could get two meals out of it.
Lmao this reminds me of the time I went to an event in Parliament House (I'm not anyone important haha, it was just for a lecture thing) and they served fish and chip canapes - literally a tiny cube of battered fish and two fries on a cocktail stick. Wankiest thing I've ever seen 🤣

Theres one today about where you will flee to when the war hits the UK.

Everyone will be flying to their families abroad, Jamaica was one place etc. No one has pointed out yet that passenger planes would be grounded so probably wouldn't be flying anywhere.

One person then said they would just grab as many possessions as they could and then run down the road if they saw a tank on their road.

Someone else muttering about where they live isn't a city so should be ok but they expect it will become a city one day so will need a plan then

And then the person who started the thread posted this. It ALMOST reads like she is blaming Ukrainian civilians for not getting out sooner because they all knew it was coming....

I find the newborn threads where no one is allowed to hold the baby weird and a little sad. It's never been the done thing in my family - everyone has pretty much got on with it afterwards, people have made cups of tea for visitors.

When my eldest niece was born, the grandparents visited in hospital as soon as visiting time started and my niece was guest of honour at my parents' wedding anniversary when she was 7 weeks old. I think everyone at the party who wanted to - got to cuddle her.

They also hate spending time with their extended families on Mumsnet - especially their poor MILS.

They were hysterical at the start of the pandemic as well. There were so many threads saying ‘close the schools’ until the schools actually closed and they had to look after their own kids🙄

I was obviously a bit late to the party and only started using Mumsnet a few months ago. I found some of the content amusing but then you just see more and more people being nasty, argumentative and rude just for the sake of it. I cannot fathom why anyone would get enjoyment from that. One day I just decided to stop using it and delete the app. I have to say, my mental health increased massively and I didn't realise how negatively it was starting to affect me. A horrible place and I'll never be back on it. And to think tattle gets a bad rep, I find here (most) people are honest without being nasty on purpose, and I properly laugh out loud from lots of it.

They’re absolutely nuts. I said ‘D’ H and I often share a bottle of wine with dinner once the baby is in (his own) bed on a ‘do you drink around your kids thread?’ and loads of them were up in arms about it, ‘WHAT IF THERE’S AN EMERGENCY AND YOU NEED TO DRIVE TO THE HOSPITAL?!’

I explained we don’t even drive so would get taxi or call an ambulance, same as if we hadn’t drank wine. There was a flurry of ‘I couldn’t not drive now I’ve had kids, it’s not fair on them to rely on public transport’ ‘that’s a waste of an ambulance OP just because you can’t drive’ and ‘if you turned up to the hospital having drank even a glass of wine they’d take your baby off you before you even got triaged’

Of course, we all know Mumsnetters only buy a bottle of wine at Christmas, drink a thimble so they’re not ‘intoxicated’ (ie still able to be complete control freaks) and let the rest sit on the side for cooking wine (as long as you cook all the alcohol off! Don’t want to get tipsy off a lasagne!)

Also has anyone previously banned tried getting back in?! They’ve lost or wiped their blacklist of IP or email addresses, the idiots at HQ.

I prefer it here but I signed back in there to say hello 🤣

There’s some seriously fucked up people on there.

What really jumps out at me if you look at any of the food threads is the number of them who obviously have eating disorders!

I feel so sorry for their kids, especially daughters. They’ll grow up with major issues around food.

Somebody wants to ban people talking about their kids in the workplace… 🙄 ok I understand infertility struggles etc but seriously? How entitled can you get!
I've seen discussions in my workplace around kids appearing while on calls and WFH (not as a regular thing obviously, just the odd time when they are home from school and pestering you for a snack etc), someone raised the possibility of it being insensitive to those with infertility! I mean, WTF! I'm sorry if anyone has to deal with that, but I can't pretend my kids don't exist - they live in this house, they're not kept in a locked box!

I hate on there when people say "Well a holiday is a priority for us" as pointed out by previous posters sometimes it is at the expense of everything else! Maybe it's because I've not been on holiday in 7 years but I just can't see how it trumps all other things.

It's the sneering I dislike the most on Mumsnet, I haven't seen any on Tattle. Plus threads on here aren't deleted at the drop of a hat. A lot of posters on there are bitter, miserable and easily offended. There could be a really interesting thread on there and someone will wade in and make sneery miserable comments to make themselves feel better.

Similarly people not being allowed to complain eg ‘AIBU to ask my mum to call before she pops in as we’re TTC and she nearly caught us at it?’ ‘My mum is dead, what I wouldn’t give for her to come into my home unannounced, one day you’ll miss her doing that’.

That’s not the issue is it, unfortunately everyone will be dead one day, we’re still allowed to ask someone not to do something or be pissed off by someone!
Ew yes! I saw a really toxic reply once that has stuck with me. A woman was asking for advice about her child's deadbeat dad etc .. one reply was 'at least your child even has a dad, my sons dad died when he was a baby' ... HOW is that helpful 🥴

There's a balance between never having another relationship, and effectively having a revolving door of new partners.

There's a woman in my street who falls into the latter category. She split up with her Ex (father of her 5 kids) about 4 years ago, since then she's had at least 4 different 'partners' come and go, all of whom have moved in pretty quickly, sometimes bringing their own kids too. The kids seem to be encouraged to refer to each other as siblings, think of the latest bloke as their stepdad etc, until it all goes to shit in a few months and then there's a new bloke on the scene. It's pretty grim really.

A common thread in a lot of these cases where children end up murdered by a parent or stepparent is the brevity of the relationship... meeting and moving in together very quickly, and/ or having children quickly.

Has anyone seen the binge drinking culture thread? The OP makes a lot of valid point about how normalised heavy, problem drinking is in the U.K. and some of the posts are so defensive in response. You can tell they are the ‘Wine O’ Clock’ brigade who need a glass Prosecco to ‘help them wind down’ at the end of the day. I’m probably projecting a bit as I’ve been raised in a family of heavy drinkers and its left me almost teetotal as a result, but it’s like playing a game of spot the pisshead reading that thread and many of the comments are the kind of thing my functioning alcoholic mother would say🙄
It’s either that or threads where a poster discusses enjoying a drink Fri-Sun and is immediately piled on by posters saying they clearly have a drink problem to be drinking so often. And they only have a sniff of Baileys at Christmas and that’s quite enough, thankyouverymuch.

They also make these awful long winded posts with ‘background’ when asking for advice, containing more waffle than an episode of Steve Wright in the Afternoon. Like just get to the sodding point will you.

Threads like this get on my tits. Why do they always need to consult MN whenever they do something? You don’t need ‘tips’ for going to fucking Alton Towers, its a theme park with rides. A bit of Googling will tell you all you need to know. They think MN is some kind of oracle about anything you need to know about everything.
