I think someone quoted the T&Cs to the poster but she was still of the view that it was her right to ask for the goods to be honoured at that price etc
Well, she can ask. But from my time in retail, I can tell you that those are the ones that the JL employees will take the greatest pleasure in telling to duck off 🤣

Honestly imagine being so cheeky, as if John Lewis staff won’t be busy enough with Xmas and this rooster up without some high and mighty head trying to argue with them.

Another general thing I notice on threads is when posters tell the OP how to respond to something via email or text they suggest the most pompous and aggressive wording that will add flames to the fire. Some of them have never worked in a professional setting or have friends! E.g. OP: help me get out of this hen do as the costs have spiralled but I don’t want to offend the bride.

Mumsnet poster: send this text to bride OP, I hate all hen dos and think they are a massive waste of money. You need to be firm and tell her exactly why you can’t come and the costs are ridiculous.

“Hi X, won’t be coming to the hen do anymore as the costs are getting out of hand and I cannot be wasting important family money on such frivolous activities. You should really reconsider how expensive it’s getting you know but I still won’t be be coming all the same.”
I love when they suggest the op should text their best friend/mum/man they've been dating for 7 months with 'Dear X' 😆 like 'Dear Dennis, thank you for our date on 24 October 2021, I had a good night. However, I feel I must tell you the way you scrunch your napkin to wipe your mouth rather then using it flat to dab your mouth was very off-putting. Kind regards, Victoria'.

@Lechat I can just imagine how that poster would act in a face-to-face situation and as you said as if the staff at John Lewis won’t be busy enough already! I think everybody should work at least one Christmas in retail. I did part time hours at my nearest branch of M&S one year and that was bad enough! i was overjoyed that my last day was Christmas Eve. It sounds to me like it was pretty obvious that the discount code was only supposed to work for YSL products.

As for the advice/suggestions threads on how to resolve things like, for example, a problem with a purchase or declining an invite, they are hilarious to read. I remember reading through one thread on there where in the middle of all of these disastrous suggestions for how to completely enflame the situation solve the problem one voice of sanity tried to suggest that you can catch more flies with honey and was promptly rounded on.

Oh I love the emails! They’re full of ‘hithertos’ (sp) and such like…and that’s to their neighbour who had a BBQ while op had their washing out!!

They advise messaging best friends of decades things like dear Lisa, I regret to inform you that I shall be unable to transport yourself and your children to our weekly shared activity with myself and my offspring. Unfortunately I have a pressing prior engagement of the medical appointment variety, and thusly cannot collect you as the timings do not permit such a diversion. I hope you understand. Best, Diane.

Weirdly they all seem to despise their organically fed, IQ busting mastermind sporting/music prodigy children too. And mother in laws 😂

I don't want kids and people always assume I hate kids because of that (I don't), I always say if you want to hear from people who hate kid, get on mumsnet! They either hate their own, their step kids, their neices and nephews, their kids friends, other kids at the school, just random kids or all of the above.

And in real life I don't know anyone who hates their mother in law, the closest is a woman who doesn't like her mother in law but has a good relationship with her for the sake of her husband and kids. Mumsnetters seem to live in a roy chubby brown joke when it comes to mils.

Ah you poor thing! My sister doesn’t want children and is constantly asked why she hates children! Must be so bloody annoying! Apparently one of her neighbours recently said to her she’s weird because having children is all what she was put on this planet for 🤔 - as a seasoned Mumsnetter would say, neighbour needs to give her head a wobble!

I don’t know about the MIL thing though, there’s a rather eye opening thread on here (unless they’re mumsnetters taking over!).

I understand some mil are crazy but on mn they're like 'mil is staying overnight and ate the last of the jam, how do I sort out this situation?' And then loads of people using the following phrases

You have a dh problem not a mil problem
She sounds like a narc
Unbelievably selfish
Could she have early onset dementia
I'd have left and booked into a hotel - then someone quotes it and says THIS and pay for it on dh credit card - then someone else quotes it and says this. NOW.
Why is your mil staying over? Send her to a hotel
Ltb
Divorce isn't he only answer sorry op - then someone quotes it saying this. You need your ducks in a row, put all important paperwork in the boot of your car and book your free half an hour with a tit hot lawyer.

Then someone comes on and ventures that maybe everyone is being slightly hysterical over jam. This is met with links to academic papers about how hysterical is a misogynistic term. People saying that poster is a doormat and other saying jam is just the start or the OP has been putting up with 'narc behaviour' for years and the jam is the straw that broke the camels back. One person will use the phrase 'cool wife' in an incorrect way and others will latch on and keep using it.

Op will come back and say all sorted dh bought more jam and she's staying I'm her marriage. Lots of posts of 'more Fool you' 'see you back here when you finally realise' interspersed with posts telling the OP how to sort the situation out (using formal language and/or passive aggressive remarks) as they haven't read the thread.

My mother in law is so bad I think I'd be bullied on here for lying if I was to genuinely 100% be honest about the things she's done to my family and I.
I'd legit be scared to even anonymously tell anyone the lengths she's gone too as people would be like, "Oh look, that's the lying troll again" and I wouldn't even need to exaggerate mildly.
It's so bad I've considered writing a book but it's so unbelievable 🤣🤣
I lost a baby this year about 12 weeks in, the night I was in hosptial having surgery she sent a video of herself dancing in a see through negligee to my fella.
He hasn't seen her for about 4 and a half years, but as soon as she found out I was in surgery, that was what she chose to do.
Doctors literally told my fella if they didn't operate ASAP my tube might bleed into my womb and she sent a video of herself bleeping dancing.
Now, that isn't even a BLEMISH on the stuff she's done, but it's one of her more recent, "WTAF".

Sorry to derail lads x

This is so spot on 😂 The suggestion of booking yourself into a hotel (or a spa seems to be another favourite) makes me laugh every time

They're obsessed, OBSESSED with 'family money'. The constant parroting of "All money is family money", but that only ever seems to be the case if the woman is a SAHM. If she's working then it's 'her' money because "You've earned it and it's yours".

Exactly, It’s so hypocritical! If SAHM, as you say, they call it family money but if a poster owns her own house or has inheritance or other savings they say hide it! Imagine if it’s the other way round and a DH was squirrelling his money away theyd be witching and saying get a solicitor. I always think the threads about SAHM are interesting as they descent into a bun fight and no one can be civil.

in other news they appear to have a site issue with their trending box that usually appears on the right. Multiple threads moaning about it and mumsnet admitted their developer (Steven) deployed a change that has messed it up. honestly that site is so amateur! It amazes me people pay money as premium members. absolute mugs!

Possibly controversial so I’m sorry if I offend anyone but I’m absolutely staggered by how many times I see “LTB”. I know some people will absolutely leave a relationship if they feel a line has been crossed and they have every single right to do so but sometimes couples try to work things out first especially if they have children and they should be completely supported in their choice if both parties are capable of moving on and living a good life together. I know couples who have a had things happen in their relationship that would definitely get a LTB on MN but they’ve really worked at their relationship and made it work. Obviously this doesn’t work in every scenario but life is very rarely black and white.

Exactly, and they seem to think it's so easy to do "Pack a bag and go to your Mum/sister/friend's house NOW". It never seems to occur to them that some people may literally have no where to go, may be estranged from family, may not live anywhere near them, may not have friends anymore because their husband/partner was so controlling that they weren't allowed.
No to mention the fact that many women (especially SAHMs) may literally not have any money of their own or any access to money, but they rattle off "LTB" every five minutes as though it's the easiest thing in the world to do

There’s a post I just saw and it’s about a woman being devastated that her 17 year old daughter has called her a narcissist. In the first post I thought aw poor mumma that’s spiteful but get over it, teenagers have sharp tongues they can’t always control.

But each time she posts she comes across more and more of a narcissist! Now I think poor daughter, thank heavens you’ll be 18 soon and able to run run run! But anyway, commenters are like kick her out, take away the phone (that the kid pays for with her job money), etc. In five years time when this kid comes on to mumsnet to complain about her toxic mum those same posters telling the mum today to kick her out will be telling the daughter to go no contact with the abusive Mum!

Some advice consists of Get Rid. And that’s it. No empathy or practical advice, just two words that are not even original anymore. Why bother posting.

I hate that stupid LTB "advice" they come out with all the time for the tiniest infractions or disagreements. Totally demeans genuine situations where someone needs to escape a bad scenario. It's pathetic, knee jerk advice with no consideration for whether it's a good/sensible/safe move and my fear is that when someone genuinely does need to get away, they won't view it with the same credence because it's so overused on there.

I read this. She literally did nothing but moan about how she'd spent on her child, I couldn't help but feel bad for her child. No kid needs that rammed down their throats, it's not necessary at all
