I don't want kids and people always assume I hate kids because of that (I don't), I always say if you want to hear from people who hate kid, get on mumsnet! They either hate their own, their step kids, their neices and nephews, their kids friends, other kids at the school, just random kids or all of the above.

And in real life I don't know anyone who hates their mother in law, the closest is a woman who doesn't like her mother in law but has a good relationship with her for the sake of her husband and kids. Mumsnetters seem to live in a roy chubby brown joke when it comes to mils.

I’ve been lurking on this thread but keeping my head down (due to being burned on mumsnet over this subject in the past!).
I’ve just worked it out and I would have to work 4 extra hours to get an extra £20 (more like £21.60) per week. I have 2 children.

Ah interesting! I was taking the BBC report at face value. It's clearly a pretty complex picture with lots to factor in. Could almost do with a half an hour infographics show to explain the scenarios!

I read a thread yesterday about people needing to stop letting strangers live with their children which turned into a dig about single mums who apparently have low standards, are gross for allowing a man to stay overnight in their child’s home and of course plenty of indulging in their favourite hobby - man bashing. A lot implied that every man is an abuser.

This was all based on what had happened to Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.

Sometimes I fantasise about my DDs marrying a really good hair stylist, or plumber or electrician. Can you just imagine how useful that would be? Unfortunately DD's long term boyfriend is in his final year, studying Economics at a vair posh uni which is neither of use nor ornament, frankly.

We have a plumber in the family, unfortunately jobs for the family are always bottom of his list. But at least you get stuff done at cost price. My hairdresser family member is brilliant though, I've never paid to have my hair done

The luxury trips one annoyed me too.

Just had a mooch on MN for the first time in years as I'm trying to adopt next year after losing a baby this year, I can't put myself through the fear of another pregancy and I don't really want to start discussing this with mates yet as they're probably going to be quite negative about it.

When your weekly ticket to work in London is 150 a week with one train a hour during rush hour we need as much London weighting as possible

I’m confused sorry, I’m not denying that it’s required I just don’t see any variance in wages for roles in tech whether they’re in London, Surrey, Birmingham, Bristol, etc, so I don’t believe any private sector companies actually apply a weighting. ETA - this obviously excludes outliers like Google’s top engineers or hedge fund managers or HNWI household managers who will only have those jobs in London (or NY or Tokyo or wherever).

In public sector roles they do but it’s minimal so, pre covid when they were billboard advertising for police recruits it was something like a £3k pcm bolt on? You could spend that on parking alone, it doesn’t adequately cover the cost of living (and I acknowledge other cities have high costs of living too).
