As I said in a different reply, I doubt we'll be getting many of these alerts at all. They might at some point do another test to see if they've ironed out the issues. But in terms of "live" alerts, I'd be surprised if any person sees more than one every few years, probably for flood warnings if they do.

I’d prefer they’d update the infrastructure to cope in the event of an emergency ,instead of sending an alert to say there’s a flood incoming “please go upstairs “ or “find higher ground “when that’s basic common sense, we have long range weather forecasts on our phones.What happens if it went off for air strikes? Besides hiding under the table we’re basically fecked ! we don’t have any undergrounds to take cover in like during the Bllitz .

Warnings have been out for weeks and months to deactivate it if you fall into them categories so I don’t get why there needs to be all this drama attached to it
People in other countries have managed it with no issues ,
I lived in America in tornado valley and as a health care professional there was no issues in the community or backlash . Again when I was in New Zealand and we had it for earthquakes and tsunamis , there was no backlash or drama from the community
if it’s such a big deal then turn it off

I still have my 12 year old Nokia 100 baby. Bought it from Tesco for £11. Love that it's still going strong.I was visiting my elderly parents, neither of them knew about it. My mum asked her neighbours and again they were unaware. My dad is early dementia and my mum is exhausted and ill. The neighbours all elderly and various illnesses. These people aren't stupid, far from it. But not everyone lives on sm or rolling news and that doesn't make them anyless important. My dad started to get upset about the government scaring people. It was all a bit upsetting for a while. These people aren't crazy conspiracy theorists, like some ignorant people love to call anyone nowadays who dares to raise concerns about anything. Such a dumb mentality.
The only saving grace was that everyone involved, including me have very basic, UNSMART phones so nothing would have happened anyway.

Most 3G is already gone. The few remaining networks still offering it (just O2 I *think*) are supposed to be switching off by the end of the year.
3G devices revert to 2G for calls and texts (2G is staying around for a few years yet because the bandwidth/frequency requirements are much simpler and pagers and safety critical stuff still use it). So some 3G device users may not have realised that it is already gone from most networks. They won't be able to do internet once they're back on ye olde 2G. Calls and texts on 2G still work but it's 20+ year old tech and cannot do the call quality of the newer tech.
It's not just the UK - most of the world is turning off 3G and eventually 2G.
Time to think about new phones unless you really do barely use it.
The way I see it is there are 2 different ways people react to it - those who aren’t bothered by the alerts and those who believe that it’s a controlling method by the government or some other organisation. If that lady believes in that, then that’s her choice. Doesn’t mean she’s mentally ill like someone else said. I could apply similar logic to religion…
Whilst I don’t share the same viewpoint as that lady, our government isn’t exactly the most truthful and have been caught out plenty of times lying so I can sort of understand why people then start to form ideas like these.
