So what is the point of this if it doesn't work on older mobile models? if there is an emergency all the old buggers with the out dated phones will die.

It is probably best there is a system set up in advance of anything happening. Even acts of terrorism or conflict on UK soil is a scenario that the government should be prepared for.

If there's something going down near me, an alert is welcome.

A number of years ago a taxi driver went on a rampage in my local area. Shot two(?) people premeditated and then drove off along back roads shooting random people at point blank range.
Maybe if we'd had the alert at that point people could have been warned to stay indoors and fewer people would have died.

I could imagine people getting their alerts and then running out to have a look, or trying to be a hero.

There is a local plan in place, that’s why you see emergency services rescuing people on the news.

If you live in an area prone to flooding then there is tons of information about what to do. I live close to a flood plain and the parish and local councils are very active and informative.

The new system is just the UK catching up with other developed countries.

But if the case arose there’s nothing in place here, like I said earlier businesses can’t even source sandbags with our rubbish drainage/sewer systems never given an upgrade in decades , half an hour of torrential rain and the manholes are lifting, the rivers never burst it’s banks yet but even if it did there’s nothing we can do about it

no i was told someone's Android had a VERY loud beeping and arrived just now at 3.22 when they turned their phone back on

Eldest got an alert but nothing for me, same network . He says it's because my phone is "old and crusty". Sure I got it last time though.

It’s only 4/5 g enabled devices got it.

Are your phones different makes? Or network? I wonder if the speaking voice is from a certain type or something. Husband is at work with crappy signal and says he has had nothing, same phone and network as me.

I don’t think it’s going to work on older phones because they’re not enabled to allow the technology I guess. I read this morning that it won’t work on phones which don’t have 4G and upwards and phones which are only Wi-Fi enabled. But as you said, these things would likely be on the news or hopefully the local community would look out for each other so that everyone is aware should it go off for whatever reason.

Because of so many reasons already stated over and over. People with dementia, people who are neurodivergent, domestic abuse survivors who have a hidden phone, etc.

I thought people were striving to be more compassionate in the name of social justice in this day and age but I guess not.

It's only the test run so if it turns out to be too many alerts about strong winds or whatever I'll disable it. Obviously I can hear already if it's windy.

Despite having all settings on, mine didn't go off - Nokia phone on Asda mobile

I called my mum who lives 10 mins away and hers didn't go off - Iphone on o2
One of my dads phones is on charge their with her and that didn't go off - iphone on 3

My dad is about 10 mins away from my mum (20 mins from me) in Asda on a nokia on 3 and that didn't go off
He also has a huawei on 02 but that one did go off

The alerts archive on my phone (android, at least a few years old, wasn't a latest model even when new) is buried several levels below the sound settings under the alerts on/off switch, similar logic might apply on other types of phone?

I don’t even know where the on/ switch is I know how to retrieve deleted pics/ videos and messages but no idea where the alert feature is.

Sure mine was at 14:59. I doubt I would have heard that if I was driving.

No one in my house got it. Different iPhones, 11, 7 and the newest, all on 3 mobile all had alerts switched on.

I have android but no voice, my phone is always on silent too
