If there's something going down near me, an alert is welcome.

A number of years ago a taxi driver went on a rampage in my local area. Shot two(?) people premeditated and then drove off along back roads shooting random people at point blank range.
Maybe if we'd had the alert at that point people could have been warned to stay indoors and fewer people would have died.

I don’t ! But if the case arose there’s nothing in place here, like I said earlier businesses can’t even source sandbags with our rubbish drainage/sewer systems never given an upgrade in decades , half an hour of torrential rain and the manholes are lifting, the rivers never burst it’s banks yet but even if it did there’s nothing we can do about it

Sounds like your local authority need a flood action group setting up. If it's a problem like you identify, maybe you should help set one up?

I like the idea of being connected to people all over the country when a lot of us have the test alert happen on the 23rd!

Weather reports I couldn't care less about but it was something locally like a child had gone missing or someone harmed in the area anything I'd noticed would be much fresher in my mind than a week later.

For those that are easily scared/jumpy: try setting a regular alarm on your phone 5 mins or so before before with a lil reminder that way you won‘t forget and hopefully it won‘t bother you as much.

4 people in the house right now, 3 went off (mine was turned off) at 14:59. They were all very loud and one had a woman's voice speaking with it. They're fuckers for making it a minute early Hopefully I'll never hear it again (chance would be a fine thing).

well turning your phone off doesn't work. Apparently it delivers when you turn it back on. its been described to me as a tiny beep and a loud buzzer so odd to see there's a difference

I have it off. Husband still has it on so at least it won't be multiple phones going off. I'll see what it's all about before i turn it back on but I am also in Scotland and really not interested in getting one for wind warnings or snow as I always know the weather.

It does strike as significant that the system is being rolled out during a war in Europe but it also seems like a system we should have had ages ago just in case in general

I read on the news that they started planning this rollout in 2019 or something so the timing is just a coincidence. Not sure why it took so long from the planning to the test but I guess maybe there's more to it technically than you'd think. To be honest, until people started freaking out about this I just assumed there must be something similar in place already - I didn't realise the government would have had no way of notifying people if there really was a major emergency.

My grandad with dementia got it first yesterday, we'd all forgotten about it. He looked at his phone and said testing something and it was over. No big panic or anything. Washing machine bleeping to say it's over is louder and way more annoying.
I refuse to believe anybody other than a very small minority of the public was adversely affected by a notification on a smart phone. If someone suffers that badly they should probably not have a phone as even with all notificiations off they still go off from time to time. Although I have empathy for anyone that does get affected like this, it must make a normal life very difficult.
Definitely all the conspiracy theorists have lached onto it and brought up vaccines and covid so only have themselves to blame for talking conspiracy theories!

I’ve also seen the 15 minute cities nonsense trotted out, along with the alarm triggering the microchip that was implanted with the vaccine.

I do wonder why we never had anything like it sooner as I have been hearing about how many other places already have it in place - we seem to be quite ahead on things so i am surprised we are playing catch up with this to be honest!

It initially scared me a little because it makes it feel like there is something huge impending (the world is going to shit, yes) but realistically if someone has been abducted or there is a murderer on the loose or there is some really severe weather where people are best to evacuate or prepare etc then i guess it will be useful ... but I am trying to stay calm that it isn't going to be 'nuke on the way' type of thing.

Big brother wise - It is hard to get away from being tracked both on and offline anyway but in all honesty, I am not even that interesting to follow and I doubt most of us are .....

As long as they don't go down the influencer link and start posting affiliate links to us with stuff to buy then i guess i will see how it goes

That's terrible but I can't help thinking it's typical of the British government to develop an emergency alert that alerts half the population 13 hours after the actual emergency!

I don't really see why we need it but I also don't see the harm in having it either. If god forbid, there was something major happening and we weren't warned, people would be complaining that there was no system to warn us. It's better to have it that not have it imo
