Met Police

Surely it's like any other profession where some excel at their jobs and others are rubbish at it...?
For all the people saying they had terrible experiences, I can say I've had the best experiences with the Met.
A police officer noticed a man following me, scared him off and walked me home to make sure I was safe. I had no idea I was being followed and will forever be grateful to that officer.
I had 2 attempted break-ins at my flat whilst I was in my late teens and living alone for the first time in my life, and the male police officers were kind, patient, and calmed me down because I was shaking with fear.
I had a neighbour (who was high as a kite at the time) threaten me with a knife and break my window in the middle of the night, and again, the police officers who came made sure I was safe and calm whilst they handled the situation. They even rang the next morning to ask if I needed to speak to anyone (i.e. counsellor) to help process the experience.
I had a friend who was assaulted on the tube and the police officer she reported it to was incredible! He listened, believed every word and made sure she felt safe, then got her a female officer to stay with her whilst he processed the papers to make sure she felt comfortable.

I'm not denying that some of them are rotten apples, just pointing out that this is par for the course in any industry. There are many who protect and serve their communities as they are supposed to. There are a few who really should be in jail for abusing their powers.

Thing is, the police are held to a much higher standard. Rightly or wrongly.

Well, my mistake then. Took them long enough, after walking through the streets for the full day, no masks. But when it's a group of females, they'll jump straight into arresting them. Proving my point, that the police force is nothing but a set of corrupt b. It seems like the muppet in London don't really care when its corrupt police, but when the goverment are trying to protect people from virus.

Your point is still kinda redundant. The Sarah Everard ‘vigil’ also went on all day. Arrests were only made in the early evening when activists stormed the vigil and ruined the peace. This protest went on all day and arrests were made from at least 3pm. So actually quicker than the previous week...

By all means call the Police corrupt but bring some real facts and receipts to your arguments.

I assume you meant to write blame the activists I think you missed the point that I made. Because you are so anti police that you won’t entertain when you’ve been proved wrong. Look, stay in your bubble. I hope you never have a crime happen against you and need the Police because who will you turn to then? Hmm... suddenly the only people who have the resources to help you and you wouldn’t even want to trust them ... good luck with that.

Doctors/nurses have been convicted of murdering patients who they are paid to medically treat. Do you not trust anyone in the NHS? Teachers have been convicted of abusing the children they are paid to educate. Do you not trust a single teacher? There are good and bad in every single organisation both public and private sector. I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you need those awful untrustworthy police men and women, the ones who would be first there if you were in a car accident, had a suicidal relative, needed to report abuse, had a partner threatening you.......etc.

I wouldn’t turn to the police for a crime now ( I don’t think).

I have had really bad luck with investigations being closed despite me doing all the legwork for one and getting Cctv evidence. It didn’t even get to the CPS.

It’s not been a good couple of weeks for the police and I do feel for the decent ones and I know there are lots.

There is a big problem too though and I find the blanket sticking together and ultra defensive behaviour really worrying.

I wouldn’t assume that any poster here or elsewhere knows nothing about the police either. Lots of us are married to police officers or have been in the job.

I have seen this argument wheeled out all over Twitter today as if people are basing their upset on one crime. It just shows how little women are listened to really.

Also, I have never seen the sticking together mentality from the nhs in the way that the police seem to. The them and us mentality.

I take it you never got harassed by the police for most of your teenage life, for no reason, then? The problem that I have with the police, is the bad cops duck it up for the good cops, and if the good cops ignore it, then they're just as bad as the bad cops.

I think it’s possible to acknowledge corruption but not think it’s 100% forcewide. It’s true that silence is violence though and perhaps that’s the bigger problem.

I never said I that I hate the police, you're blatantly twisting my words. I said that they were corrupt, and if you can't see that, then you're blinded. But keep defending the police and not saying a bad word toward them, when more corruption, bullying happens.

I dont dispute people have bad experiences with police nor do I dispute that there are bad officers. However to say that the police are corrupt full stop is ignorant. Police officers across the country lose their jobs every week, often their colleagues will be the 'whistleblowers' for the incidents. A previous poser mentioned police 'sticking together' again I would dispute this for reason above. The silence is violence comment - there are departments within the police with a responbility to identify corruption and weed it out. I read of a police disciplinary on my local news website the other day, Im sorry but I can't see how this is this silence.

I work in the NHS, if a friend was struck off I would be mortified, I can't imagine what it must be like to then be accused of condoning whatever they did just because of sharing the same job title. Just a thought for you.

Oh I’d say a fair old amount of turning a blind eye goes on.

I’m not remotely anti-police, I think ACAB is appalling but, it is an instintutionaly problematic organisation that needs to do better. Amongst that there will be very hardworking, honest, ambitious officers just trying to get on with the career they opted for.

I dont trust or like the police, but im very aware they are all we have and we depend on them. Thats why it stings so much when they duck up. There are held to a higher standard, morally and legally. As they should be.

I also dont instinctively trust every NHS worker. They are so open to human error and being desensitised, I do hold back ever so slightly. Thats not their fault though, its a result of the NHS being run in to the ground. The same could be said for the police force with entry requirements and staffing levels.

If you don't think the police are remotely corrupt in the slightest way, then that's why the police can get away with everything.
