Good old Georgian Period Country Cornish Farmhouse Home.

Couldn't watch the video, more waffling, repetition and gazing at the viewfinder.

IDK if someone has discussed it already, but why is a sustainability influencer promoting the fact they're using MDF in their kitchen?!?! The harmful chemicals involved in its production and their continual off-gassing make it one of the most unsustainable materials to use in joinery. IDK it was just the hypocrisy for me, even though I know her links to sustainability are now tenuous at best.

Same thing with her putting down very cheap plastic carpet in her old house.

Didn’t make sense until I realised she doesn’t give a duck about sustainability if it’s at odds with her wallet and in hindsight it’s obvious she was already planning to sell it and move on so it would soon be someone else’s toxicity problem but look good for the rightmove ads.

I doubt precious Madeleine would have polypropylene carpets throughout any property she was planning to stay in a while.

*200 year old English farmhouse
* Old English farmhouse
* Old house
* 200 year old period home
*200 year old Cornish country home
* Georgian English country house
etc
Wouldn't it have made more sense to create a more clear brand, and say just label all the home renovation content as if it were a series e.g "Our Cornish Home: Kitchen renovations 1" "Our Cornish Home: Creating a kitchen garden 2"

For some reason she got 886k views on the one titled "Georgian English Country House Tour" so I'd imagine that's why she's shoehorning every possible variant of that into every title..

I agree with the post above. You would think a renovation series with that title would be a more cohesive way of attracting views. There obviously is a market for it based on that one video.

But what would I know I'm just a troll :)

The real problem is her renovation series is utter rit. It doesn’t matter how she titles it, it’s useless. There are what feel like imperceptible changes in each flog. She milked the beams for like 4 videos, now she’s milking the painting for countless flogs.
It lacks coherence, focus, and a clear point.
I watched her last video — she wants to focus on the disasters of renovating. Fine. Do that. But stop waffling on about utter balls and show the disasters, not the idea of disasters.

and, also, her video skills were making me sick In the last video with the camera constantly jerking around.

Get it together, Madeline Olivia. ffs.

God it's just the same things repeated over and over again. How many times did she talk about the window seat/painting? Does she actually edit these and just can't be bothered cutting out the repetition and waffle?

I seriously don't know how Alex can stand the way she speaks to him. Maybe he really is just her simp and that's their dynamic but she is so incredibly rude and dismissive of anything he says, even when she has actually asked his opinion. She constantly talks over him and is really only interested in talking about herself. It seems like every conversation they have together is based on her invalidating his opinion because she always has to be 'right' How exhausting.

Watching a video of hers from July, of the house reno, and shes showing a boquet of flowers from Freddies Flowers with lillies in it. I don't watch her often but she has cats yeah? Does she often leave poisonous flowers around the house? :oops:

I’m not sure about how often, but I think I read a comment calling her out on that and she said something like “oh the cats don’t go near them” which seems odd. I have a cat and he goes near flowers no matter what type they are so eve just stopped buying flowers or receiving them from visitors. It’s not with the risk for us. Seems like it is for her.

Just shows free flowers are more important to her then the life of her cats. I do not understand why you would even risk it?

When she puts up these lazy, sloppily edited vlogs that are full of dullness and repetition, it's really hard to take her seriously when she starts whining about how hard she works and how busy she is.

Yes! Also the bit at the beginning with little clips of what will occur later could basically be the whole vlog. No need for 50 more minutes.

I used to really enjoy Maddie's videos. She was very relatable as she decluttered her life and got into minimalism. I know people change but she changed for the worst. It was when she went travelling that she started to rub me the wrong way. she did a video about how "anyone can achieve anything if they just try hard enough" and I remember she got called out in the comments but just couldn't see (or refused to acknowledge) how privileged that attitude is.

As her channel grew, she got more subscribers and more money from ADs the minimalism and sustainability fell to the side and she became a shill for whoever wanted to give her free stuff. There's always an excuse as to why she works with brands who produce plastic products or whatevr. I don't thinks she actively learns about sustainability or simple living anymore. She's not a minimalism or someone who considers sustainbility in her decisions. she's become someone who doesn't care about personal waste because "the big companies are to blame" and while that's true, it's bizarre to see someone use that as an excuse to buy plastic wrapped food all the time. it's like she's given up. She also wears wool clothing now! that's not vegan even if it's "recycled".

I dont have a problem with her selling her house and buying a new one. it's completely unrelatable but what's she suppsoed to do? The thing is, maddie's renovation vlogs are BORING. Everything she does reeks of privilege. the amount of renovating and decorating they're doing must cost so much money and their house was already 500k!!! She's gone from being very relatable to not at all. She should stop positioning herself as a slow living sustainability vlogger because she's far from it now.

I agree that her videos have somehow become more boring. She was never super interesting, but it was sort of calming nothing to put on in the background. And I will admit I found her cottage Reno enjoyable to watch. But this new Reno isn’t. I found this new house super unattainable which isn’t her fault but it’s just not something I would ever be able to buy. The primary issue is it’s boring? She’s not doing a lot by herself and is dragging out and making the small bits and bobs she does do herself. I don’t think she’s being very sustainable with her choices half the amount of stuff done isn’t necessary - the sealing garden, the electrics and the windows are the only things I think needed to be done. The rest is a lot of money.

Also why have the shelving and the outside of her new pantry cupboards real wood if she’s just painting and sanding and painting and sanding over them. I’m finding she’s somehow making this beautiful old house bland. All while speaking to Alex like he’s her in house maid.

P.s. that whole gender roles speal she did because she’s sanding beams and he’s cooking was the most embarrassing and somehow ignorant thing I’ve seen in a while. All while talking over and dismissing her partner

Did she actually buy that paint from Lick? Everyone else seems to have been gifted paint from them, so I instantly expect it to be an #ad but perhaps I'm wrong.

I'm sure hot tubs require a lot of energy and chemicals to run. Sustainability goals.

Looks like she did as she’s not mentioned once it was #gifted or #ad must sting knowing everyone and their dog is having paint gifted and she’s not.

I think sustainablity is no longer a word that applies to Maddie no matter what she may say. She reminds me of someone who has a reusable bottle and straw because they really care about the environment and then spend 100s on shein and missguided. But Maddie thinks as she’s sustainable in her clothing she’s a #sustainableminimalist just ignore every other aspect of her life.

I mean this in the nicest was but how stupid do you have to be to do those cupboards before the fire place. Even if she desperately needs that cupboard space because she’s a food blogger and it’s essential (ignore that she had a kitchen less than half the size with less than half the storage less than a year ago) why not do one and then wait to do the cupboards next to the fireplace until after.

It's shocking to me how quickly maddie is renovating her house. it's better (and more sustainable!!!) to live somewhere to get a feel for the space and how you use it, and then decide what needs renovating/decorating or whatever. seems like she's doing a lot of stuff to her house for no other reason than she has the money to do it. not sustainanble or relatable to most of us
