I do understand a hospital cover up could be a possibility, but I struggle to understand people who are so set on Lucy being innocent (or guilty) and being made the scapegoat when there is virtually no evidence in the public domain. It seems very divided in the Facebook groups, people already firmly made their minds up on both sides. I’m also reserving judgment until the case and open minded it could go either way.

My thoughts are that just because there have been problems at the hospital previously, doesn’t mean this is what happened and that Lucy must be innocent. Both things could exist, a failing hospital and a murderer. I guess someone that way inclined could see a failing hospital as an opportunity to get away with a crime. I’m not saying this is the case with Lucy but just one of the reasons I’m cautious to automatically blame the hospital as there are all sorts of possibilities.

Letby looks much more smiley and more 'cute girl next door' than Allitt did. Dunno if that has influenced people's attitudes. I don't know how much info about Allitt was reported pre trial though which could also have led people to form a view (with Letby, practically nothing has been reported about her life)
I asked my mum qnd she said she can't remember but it was visually obvious she was guilty by looking at her. She said everyone decided she was guilty immediately. So yeah, if letby looked evil that'd leave no doubt in people's minds

I think that's why somw people are cautious to automatically believe she's guilty I guess. Its such a private case though so I'm hoping she gets a fair trial.

I can only speak for myself but for those of us that regularly follow crime stories / trials - something about this one does not add up -and if something feels amiss, usually it means that something is. What is amiss - we may never find out, even with a trial. But the strange way the entire case has been handled and the treatment of LL has me leaning towards a potential cover up.

There was some babies named but this was quickly removed. I can’t remember where it was but it was online at one stage. I’m really interested in this case but I agree you just can’t say yet what way it’ll go. It’s so locked down and probably because they need it to be water tight and fair.

It’s going to be a long trial 6 months!!!! We will get through some threads. I followed the Star Hobson case (Savannah brockhill & Frankie Smith) that was very intense & I guess this one will be more so due to the length of time it’s in court. Those jurors will need six months off work to gain some normality!

I've heard completely different, although not from a source such as yours, but I've heard whispers that people had suspicion yet they weren't able to act upon anything due to no evidence.
This is the problem, the person I heard it from could have made that up for idle gossip, but that's what could influence people isn't it?
This is a hugely devastating case for all involved and no matter the outcome it's just a ducked up situation for those involved.
I've not carried a child so I can't imagine losing one, but I do imagine trying to grieve with this hanging over the parents would make it near impossible.

What’s your concern with the way she’s been treated? (Not disagreeing with you, I just wouldn’t know how this differs to other cases as I don’t follow enough regularly)

I read bits of that but couldn't keep up. Also I was very triggered by that case, I'm not sure why more so than others but I really struggled.

The LL trial is going to be 6 months?! duck.

It was very emotive due to how poor Star died. I think most people struggled. I struggled to get work done some days. 6 months is a huge amount of time.

Are there other recent trials that have gone in for so long? Following trials as they happen isn’t something I’ve done a lot of until Star. I feel for the jurors, it’s a long time to have your normal life interrupted and of course there will be some distressing details which will really impact them. How does it even work with jurors and their employer when it is due to last so long?

Depends on your employer. Some will pay you, some wont and expect you to claim back your salary from the court but they only pay a small amount 🤯 so if youre in say a commision based job where you regularly make your OTE then you might find yourself screwed financially but its your 'civic duty' 🙄🙄

Could it be possible that she's been charged because there's more evidence pointing to her than anyone of anything else? It's so strange when there isn't any info. I feel so sad for the families.

I have no opinion either way at the moment as so little has been released. However, I can't imagine being a juror on a 6 month trial, just the childcare issues alone would give me nightmares.

I also assume that each family of one of the babies will have their own barrister cross examining LL so there will be 17 odd barristers on the prosecuting team plus the one from her own defence team. No wonder it will take months

Bah I think she did it. Seven murder charges and ten attempted murder charges, there must be some serious evidence even to take it to trial.

The BBC’s wording was that she allegedly attacked the infants.

Many medical professionals are ”high functioning psychopaths”. If she had allegedly offed one or two infants she may never have been found out. How many other nurses have done it and never been found out. What a terrifying thought.

I really don’t know what to make of this yet so I’m very interested to see what the evidence is. To get to trial with this many charges it must be fairly significant.

Just a very sad case all round for everyone involved 😔

Quotes from a trashy US website:

“The increase in deaths of babies in this hospital’s care forced them to stop caring for any baby younger than 32 weeks old and transferred all babies under this age out of their care.

“They also had three intensive care cots that they closed because of the rapidly increasing death rate.

“Premature babies were collapsing with lung and heart failure. They were proving impossible to resuscitate, which was beyond bizarre.

“The babies that had died were then showing weird blotches all over their legs and arms after their deaths.

“Sources say that Lucy went on vacation with her parents and that the infants that were coming up sick significantly went down while she was away, which is how police originally suspected her.”

If all this is true, we are looking at the Harold Shipman of premature babies

Hasn’t she been cleared of one of the charges? It will be interesting to see what it is that has made them accuse her…

Why would the police think there were bodies or evidence buried in her garden? How could they even have that thought?
Why would they word it as "bizarre" that a premature babies who have collapsed lung and heart failure couldn't be resuscitated. It's awful and sad that the baby is premature and in such a state but bizarre is a strange word to use.

I don't know I thought they had really tightened up the medication administration. I'm wondering how she managed to do this, I believe NICU give meds out in pairs. Insulin would be stock checked . I'm struggling to understand how the hospital wouldn't have realised. I've heard of one nurse who had been convicted solely on shift statistics instead of hard forensic evidence that is pretty scary.

I'm wondering what evidence they have as it took so many times to arrest her.
