This is the one that I've been waiting for. It's going to be such a difficult one and there's gonna be a few mixed opinions on this thread.
I think, it's definitely a case where evidence will need to be heard before forming an opinion. It can't be judged by her 'butter wouldn't melt' appearance.

I mean, I looked at her and my initial thoughts were 'Nooo, she would never do that' BUT LL is the suspect for whatever reason.

Very little has been said so far, but there has been many people attempting to campaign her innocence. Lawyers on both sides have worked for years on evidence.

I hope the court transcript reporting of this is decent enough. I know a few of us have followed trials before and it can be hit or miss. But with it being a big case, there will be enough in the media for us to discuss.
Stars trial was really well covered by Dave Jagger.

'Tried to murder the same babies on several occasions ' God this trial is going to be unbearable, those poor parents having to listen to this

Very intrigued to follow this trial.

I do disagree with her losing her freedom in the run up to trial - I imagine they’ve not had a choice but to do this incase she tried to harm herself and didn’t make it to trial but she’s still innocent until proven otherwise and shouldn’t have spent years of her life locked away for potentially crimes she didn’t commit.
I thought people are just kept on remand the more serious the crime is

I fail to understand how online discussions can cause further upset to families who have literally LOST BABIES, who are going to be involved in a trial on a nearly daily basis going through EVERY TINY DETAIL about their newborn’s death.

Like, I get that online discussion can be counterproductive and people should not be disclosing extra info, but I don’t think the final nail in the coffin is going be Sharon on Facebook saying “I heard Lucy doesn’t like crisps and she laughs at disabled pigeons.”

I can only speak for myself but for those of us that regularly follow crime stories / trials - something about this one does not add up -and if something feels amiss, usually it means that something is. What is amiss - we may never find out, even with a trial. But the strange way the entire case has been handled and the treatment of LL has me leaning towards a potential cover up.

If they can specifically say insulin, then it's obviously been found in pathology/autopsy reports. If the babies weren't prescribed it then it's very hard to explain why it was found if that was the case. If it had been prescribed, it's more possible for human error.

Her dad is pretty old isn’t he. Not quite what he had in mind for his retirement years, to be blunt.

Right folks, just discovered the thread via another thread, and if the Star Hobson one is anything to go by this is going to be a long one. I’ll be in and out, no way I can keep up every page without taking six months off my own job.

If I was on a jury I would wholeheartedly not make my mind up (obviously) until I’d been presented evidence. I promise. And the jury room discussions and all that.

But here, as I’m not on the jury, they obviously have a lot on her. The sheer expense of this trial. And is it surprise that a nurse could be so evil? No, I don’t think so. Evil exists in every known profession. You’ve got bent coppers in every police force no doubt. Previous medical cases like Harold Shipman is said to have offed them as it was easy and oldies would’ve died anyway. A compulsion which then turned lucrative for him, but ultimately started because he just wanted to and found he enjoyed it. So if it does turn out that way, I’m not surprised.
Thoughts to all families involved - can’t imagine losing a baby, and in suspicious for circumstances? Worst nightmare.

Letby looks much more smiley and more 'cute girl next door' than Allitt did. Dunno if that has influenced people's attitudes. I don't know how much info about Allitt was reported pre trial though which could also have led people to form a view (with Letby, practically nothing has been reported about her life)
I know what you mean about the "girl next door" type but I think people sometimes people get judged who are quiet like Lucy and saying things like"I always knew there was something off about her" when sometimes people are just introverts doesn't mean they're weird and have something to hide

(Obviously in this case she may be that odd person with horrific stuff to hide but as others have said we can't really decide until we hear the facts and evidence)

I do wonder though if LL knew this would be the evidence put forward why has she pled not guilty? Unless she actually is not guilty? I know that I could not sit and listen to all the horrific things I had done to those poor infants played out in court when I knew I had done it and they had overwhelming evidence. I wonder what her defence will be.
I guess there’s a few things to consider,
- what if she didn’t do it? Everyone has a right to a fair trial
- what if she did do it but due to some kind of mental health reason didn’t believe she was harming them?
- what if she wants everyone to know what she’s done? If she pleaded guilty this wouldn’t go to trial or would any of the information be public.

I guess there a lots of reasons!

I don't know I thought they had really tightened up the medication administration. I'm wondering how she managed to do this, I believe NICU give meds out in pairs. Insulin would be stock checked . I'm struggling to understand how the hospital wouldn't have realised. I've heard of one nurse who had been convicted solely on shift statistics instead of hard forensic evidence that is pretty scary.

I'm wondering what evidence they have as it took so many times to arrest her.

Innocent until proven guilty imo. I’ll wait to see what evidence they have against her before I cast aspersions. There must be something linking her to the deaths of those babies. It’s all very strange but should become clearer once the trial begins.

Am I right in thinking senior staff and the consultants on the ward heads would have rolled for this too? I would have thought they were overseeing everything down to the last detail for the babies in their care. How did it get past them all?

I keep reading comments elsewhere (mostly reddit) that it is believed the evidence against LL is largely circumstantial in that she was on duty for each death and they decreased/stopped when she wasn't working. And increased at the new place she was moved to.

I can't believe that is the only evidence the prosecution will present as there is just no way they can eke out a trial for 6 months on just that.

The Star trial submitted an absolute ton of evidence but was wrapped up in about 8 ish weeks. They must have so much more evidence to present as I just don't see CPS taking it to trial on something so flimsy otherwise.

I still have no opinion on whether I think she is guilty or being scapegoated as there is no leaked evidence to form an opinion, but there must be a lot the prosecution thinks it can present for the trial to go that long.

There are obviously a lot of victims which will add time, but I would imagine that a lot of the evidence is presented as similar/the same for some of them so there will be lot of cross over.

Any legal people on here have any thoughts or may shed some light on the process?

Posted 6 days ago, how likely is this to be true and could it delay the trial? Posted by the same person who said they knew her. They like to show they know a lot! I know time will tell but I’m not one who is good for waiting 🙈

If they really do know her, you'd think they'd know better than to go spouting off like that on FB. It's so silly and could jeopardise the trial.

I too work in healthcare, and I haven’t looked up any of my patients on social media..

But, I could understand if curiosity got the better of you, and you felt like nosying at the odd patient…

She might simply have looked them up after the babies died, to just be nosy?

As PP, have said the timing of these searches could be crucial.
