She shouldn't have received anonymity when she was charged.
However, the media should also not have named her two years BEFORE she was charged and be able to trawl through her social media and publish photographs of her, her house, her address, taken photographs of her reporting for bail etc etc. I'm from Chester originally and know exactly where her house is - it's about half a mile away from where I grew up.
That is what I have a real issue with and I don't know how they have been allowed to get away with doing it again. It makes me so angry. I have no doubt that is why the judge has imposed such stringent reporting restrictions.
Can someone with some legal know how answer this please? Surely for the process to be fair and transparent we would need to know who she is charged with murdering? Idk if I can ever recall a murder trial where the victims identity was held back? I don't think the law cares too much about families feelings so I doubt it's to not upset anyone. What legal reason do they have to not identify the victims?
As has already been said on this thread, all the victims were named in open court early on. They now can't be named for legal reasons. I'm confident this is due to a reporting restriction issued by the judge because of the high profile nature of the case and the media's behaviour.
I imagine it will be lifted once the trial is underway.
All the parties involved know the identity of the alleged victims and that's all that matters.
It’s an interesting discussion, but I do wonder how many people would think Wayne Couzens should have had anonymity? He was technically innocent until proven guilty too? (I appreciate he pleaded guilty but we all knew who he was before that). I think if you feel it should be one rule for one person and another for someone else then you have got to question your biases.
No, he shouldn't have had anonymity when he was charged but, again, the press should not have been able to name both him and his wife, trawl through their social media accounts and publish photographs of them before he was charged (or afterwards either) She was never charged in the end yet her face was all over the media. It's absolutely fucking appalling.
