This is sooooo infuriating to watch and the comments are ridiculous too.

how on earth does he sit there with a straight face complaining about DCI Paul Hughes going on a documentary after all the publicity stunts he’s pulled as a barrister? Including this!!

The theatricals about ‘why do the police have a media team and why are they releasing press statements’ errr… that’s what the police do! They did it months before they first arrested Letby. They announced ages ago about the corporate manslaughter investigation.

But even if there has been some sort of tactical decision for the police to do this now a few days before closing statements, I wouldn’t blame them when they are fighting dangerous idiots like Mark McDonald. Maybe there is actually some justification to pause the inquiry for the police investigation so as not to prejudice any future trials.

Getting out my tinfoil hat here but maybe there’s already been a decision to pause and these news stories are pre-empting it. The police one to reassure that they are committed to the ongoing investigation into this convicted criminal and Maccy D one to put a positive spin on it and get more publicity for The Biggest Miscarriage Of Justice Ever TM.

If there has been a decision to pause i don't think it would be anything to do with Letby, I think more likely because the police are investigating management for gross negligence?

That would actually make more sense. The Thirlwall inquiry is working on recommendations to stop another medical murderer but if some of the participants are under investigation for a crime it may not be appropriate.

The inquiries act says that "an inquiry panel is not to be inhibited in the discharge of its functions by any likelihood of liability being inferred from facts that it determines or recommendations that it makes." So I don't think the COCH investigation would be a reason for pausing.

Only way it gets paused imo is if the barristers for the families say that the parents want to wait to see what happens with Letby's CCRC case.

Can you see that happening though? I can't because the families know she's guilty?

The barristers presented their case on Friday and its not been reported that's its been paused, so its probably going ahead as planned.

I think this is Justice Thirwell going complete belt and braces here.
It will be up to the core participants on Monday though I really can’t see it going anywhere.

I don’t have any legal knowledge but I feel something like 99% sure that the inquiry won’t be paused on Monday due to CCRC application. The inquiry actually started before the appeal for the baby K verdict (I think thirlwall just didn’t sit on the same day for the actual appeal hearing) and CCRC isn’t even close to that yet.

I was thinking maybe a police investigation would be a more justified reason to pause but then the corporate manslaughter investigation didn’t prevent the inquiry going ahead. And this is also just a summing up of what’s been heard isn’t it? it’s not actually Lady Thirlwall’s findings and I’m also not sure closing statements would put blame on individuals.

However if the police need it to pause because it may prejudice investigation / potential charges then I would support that. Criminal investigations need to take priority. A well-timed tactical application to the CCRC by a convicted criminal is not. Otherwise they would just do it every time surely.

This article says "Letby's innocence is clear". It reports that dozens of scientists, medics, statisticians and academics say she is innocent. What a gross exaggeration. This would total over a hundred of such people. There were a handful of handpicked people by Dr Lee who would defer to his narrative. These people were from foreign countries who hadn't attended the trial and didn't have access to all the babies medical records. There were highly qualified expert witnesses at the trial who had access to all the medical reports who the Letbyists choose to ignore. It is disgusting that Knapton is allowed and wants to write reports such as these and McDonald makes me feel sick just looking at his arrogant, attention seeking bloated face.

How on earth does he has the audacity to tell her to wait until everything is in public domain before making a YouTube video!! With his infinite number of private eye articles criticising anything from the prosecution when he doesn’t even have access to ‘everything’!! Is he actually ok?

I don't think he quite understands the CCRC brief which will be to decide if there's any new evidence.
