Gosh what a day . I've just managed to catch up on the previous thread and this one. So tough reading the court updates. My very almost 7 year old is up and down like a blue arsed fly tonight, he's too excited for his birthday to go to sleep. Prior to this case I would be getting annoyed that he was eating into my evening of chill time but honestly, tonight I don't care. I'm sure the parents of those babies would give anything to have the their little boy or girl refusing to sleep and interrupting their dinner (which they finally ate at 10pm because of said children refusing to sleep).

I've really thought the prosecution end speech has been excellent, to sum it all up like that makes it much easier to understand and remember. He comes across as so intelligent, and makes it seem so logical.

The Podcast too, puts a different light on things, makes it more understandable, and an even worse light on LL, when you listen to the actors and what she says in the dock (or is it on the stand).

So really we only have a week before the Jury are sent out. In that time not just the defence summing up but also the judge.

Whatever the verdict, I can't believe sometimes the lack of empathy some people have, on other platforms, for the babies that died, their parents, families and those left injured and with severe brain damage, is just awful.

Ben, guess what. When my son was in NICU, it was almost full. Which is why they were a bit reluctant to admit him initially until they did a blood gas.

When he was readmitted at 2 weeks to the children's ward, we waited in a cubicle in the children's emergency department for 14+ hours, because the children's ward was full.

In my son's 7 days at the NICU and 13 days on the children's ward, both of which were either full or almost full, no one's suboptimal care caused a collapse or death. And I'll be honest and say sometimes, things were late happening, when cannulas failed, he missed antibiotic doses waiting for new ones, sometimes they didn't always notice my son had been sick in his cot in NICU and sometimes, we didn't get the best care. They were absolutely rushed off their feet though and they did the best they could in October/November.


But again, none of this resulted in serious collapses or death.

Also, no one was texting away on their phone or creepily hanging around either and no one was their when they weren't on shift.

I second whoever said dioralyte for a hangover, start with at least 2 of these then you need to eat something as part of feeling so shit is the hypoglycaemia. Once you’ve eaten, take a couple of ibuprofen/recommended dose (I love how unhappy the medical/pharmacy section of the thread were at the suggestion of 4 cocodamol - rightfully so as paracetamol is a massively dangerous drug when you think you can buy it in the local shop). If you can’t get dioralyte, you need an electrolyte drink along the lines of lucozade sport - this or dioralyte uses the electrolytes to help rehydrate therefore reduce the headache/fatigue.

let’s keep spirits up today (no pun intended) where we can. Playing devils advocate (as you know I like to be objective about everything other than her guilt..) BM is doing the only thing he can - he had nothing else to bring to the table so providing a defence in the form of a 5 day close is all he has got. Will only dip in and out of the live reporting I think this week.

I genuinely feel it is a duty to bear witness, if you can, to these things. Sometimes we can’t, but mostly we all have enough resilience to think about the experience of people who have suffered so much, what it means and what should happen. If we ignore the pain of others, don’t even acknowledge it I think we are all diminished. Xx

What a difficult week.

I can't begin to fathom what those parents must be feeling. As a mum of 3 little BNBNs I have definitely hugged and kissed them extra this week, it's devastating.

Even staff I imagine feel a bit broken seeing the outline of how and when it has all happened right under their noses.

Letby had said: "You think I pushed it in, didn't you?" Mr Myers said Nicholas Johnson KC, for the prosecution, replied: "I do."

Mr Myers asks where had that come from, and "there was no evidential basis" for that. He says it was "an allegation on the hoof". He says no-one suggested that baby had a vomit was unwell.

He says that allegation was "made in passing".

Well, Ben unless you know how LL could feed a baby in 4 mins instead of 20 mins without pushing it in, I think BNE had her bang to rights. She wouldn't have asked about it would she, if it wasn't bleeding obvious!

Yeah, she was committed to her job and doing overtime because she was unhealthily obsessed with it.
She changed her methods of killing because if suddenly every sick baby died of an air embolus she’d have been caught much sooner.

I know there was some distaste over this wording earlier in the thread, but I am looking forward to hearing Ben's closing statement. He really hasn't got much to work with and I doubt anyone will be swayed after hearing the pros (I hope), but he is a professional and I am interested to see what he does. He is just a man doing his job and although I think he was unnecessarily harsh in some of the cross, he has to do his job properly at the end of the day. Reckon he has had a shot of whiskey and 20 fags this morning to spur him on.

It’s one of our unwritten criminal laws, the air conditioning in courts must malfunction from May - October, and then come on full blast in December. Bonus points if the previously broken heating system begins to work in July

Gosh this is interesting, so really a copy and paste job right enough. I’ve been feeling so uneasy with it this morning when it started so stopped reading the live reporting. I haven’t followed other trials before to this degree and was actually going to ask here earlier if anyone knew how the defence closing statement compares to other high profile trials. Star Hobson for example, was SB’s defence quite persuasive or was it obvious at that point that she’d be found guilty. I guess it’s a completely different example right enough and perhaps not as split like this trial. Just wondered really if there’s no hope the jury won’t be swayed by BM but I know it’s impossible to say.

I can’t remember how SB’s defence came across at the time but I remember on the thread most people thought she was guilty but were worried about the reasonable doubt threshold. Because both Brockhill and Frankie were in the flat at the time, and both said they didn’t do it so can the jury be confident beyond reasonable doubt it was Brockhill. But it’s like this case, it’s the relevance of all the other evidence that matters too. And one of the defining pieces was Brockhill saying on the 999 call ‘I called mum in’ which means she had placed herself in the room and Frankie not in the room. But then backtracked during police interviews / evidence because it’s damning.

Letby has actually done the same with Ashleigh Hudson (I think) with saying she came into room 1 but then backtracked and said Ashleigh was already in the room. And there are lots of other little ‘errors’ like that in this case

My biggest concern is that this is ripe for the good nurse / bad nhs conspiracy theorists. If these medical experts have the same evidence for a non-accidental death for a child in the home with a Brockhill type then they would not be doubting whether it was a bloody virus.

Exactly, she had just done a course which talked about the risks of air embolism. She was a nurse, she could’ve picked up a textbook, used a work computer, maybe even seen something on tv and there would be no record of that.
