Definitely a huge huge mistake on her part but how much easier would it be for her to have stood up in court & stood by her decision? Which would have made her look better job wise
I mean, to be fair her career is neither here nor there at this point. If she stands up in court and defends her decision and the defence absolutely wreck her during the cross examination, she’s going to look even worse and more incompetent. I think it’s looks far better for her that she’s just been honest and admitted the mistake.

Ok the latest narrative on Facebook is a lot of them died in room one.

So, now the room has done it???????

God forgive me, but this is entertainment with their stupidity

I know she has also said she didn't want to cause the parent's more distress...but blimey, it has freaked me out a little to think, that IF a p.m had been done then just maybe other babies could have been saved💔( If it could have been proved that the baby died by being intentionally harmed)
This if she’s guilty was a huge missed opportunity to have stopped her before we got to Baby Q.
I can’t imagine what the rest of the parents are thinking listening to this 💔💔

It also must be extremely horrible to see the parents as distraught as they were, so close to taking their baby home whom they had no reason to think wouldn’t make it and then start insisting they have a PM when although the situation didn’t fit completely, NEC is the closest thing she could use to explain it. Definitely a huge huge mistake on her part but how much easier would it be for her to have stood up in court & stood by her decision? Which would have made her look better job wise
I get you I really do, and knowing your family member is to be " put through" a post mortem is horendous, (ive been there and it traumatised me)let alone a tiny baby💔
The parents have already shown that they had so much trust in everyone so would have accepted the cause of death as being that....
In my experience as a nurse also, it's hard to " tell" a family or be there when a family member is being told that a post mortem is needed....it's just awful...but sometimes it has to be done, to obviously determine the cause of death.
I'm not for one second saying she may have had any idea that foul play is involved, I just think, as a consultant it was a massive mistake, which i'm sure she knows!!
I'm just putting myself in the shoes as best I can of the parents of baby E and F and also of the other babies...if there was a chance she could have been stopped there( if guilty).....would she have stopped though...that's another question😭💔

Facebook groups like that are always full of weirdos. To caveat I don't think they're unhinged because they don't think she's guilty, but some of the mental gymnastics and absolutely wild theories are just outta control. A lot of people on there tend to just be against the system and so anything that could be a cover up of course is beyond any doubt.

Hi everyone, I've been lurking since the start! I just wanted to clarify re night & day shifts - I am on the periphery of neonatal units (not clinical) so I have some kind of experience here. Night shifts are a bit like marmite in our place, some love them, some hate them. For night shifts, you get an uplift in pay for unsociable hours, so this is a big bonus to some, maybe Lucy, being a young person with a mortgage, liked the extra monetary aspect from them? Obviously nights are quieter as well, so it would have provided more opportunities for harming babies, as some of you have already said.

I am of the opinion that moving her to days, was more a concern about her performance, rather than because she was suspected of harming babies. A few others have mentioned this previously, but day shifts have more staff on and more opportunities for supervision. I guess they moved her to clerical duties because they were still concerned about her performance, IMO this might have been what her grievance was about.

It is incredibly hard to sack someone in the NHS (we have someone on our team who has been through loads of disciplinaries, missed shifts, is generally rude and cantankerous to everyone and they are still there) hence all the moving about and changing shifts. Plus why would your mind automatically go to "she's obviously harming them", you would tend to believe she was incompetent first!

I was initially on the fence, but now the more we hear, the more guilty she sounds.
Hi welcome 🤗

I’m at work (just on my break) but just want to quickly reply to your post with a question. Regarding the changing her to days for more supervision because they suspected incompetence on her part, this theory has never sat right me. What doesn’t add up about this, although admittedly I don’t work in this environment, would they then put her in charge of students nurses while on days if they really thought babies were dying and collapsing because of her incompetence? Just seems so contradictory.

IMO she was placed on days as way of pacifying the few consultants who did perhaps speak up. However, no one higher up really took those concerns seriously until the pattern continued, then they thought duck we better move her out! X

In defense of the nurse - I doubt “I wonder if I have a killer nurse here” crossed her mind at all. It’s obviously more likely that a baby took a random turn for the worse, than someone being responsible. Looking back, I’m sure she now sees there being an issue. Hindsight bro. Correct me if I’m wrong in any way lol I am skimming

Is anyone genuinely shocked that people on facebook believe she is 100% NG and are refusing to hear anything which could prove otherwise?
These are the same people who believe that vaccines are mind control chips and bill gates wants to make everyone infertile 🙄.

Yes i agree but even if not suspecting foul play, she's said the deterioration is beyond what she would expect...so I'm still surprised a p.m wasn't done, but I'm an adult nurse and only going off my experience both as a nurse and personal.. that an " unexpected death" which I feel she is really basically saying ( or maybe I'm misinterpreting her)would usually result in post mortem.
So..what I'm saying is, even if foul play not expected..could she or the events have stopped right there or would she have still carried on blasé?( if she is guilty!)
But yes ...hindsight and all that😭😭😭
I agree to an extent.
Apologies for the me rail to explain, my estranged husband, who had a blood condition for years, was hospitalised with pneumonia, had antibiotics and was to be discharged.
He suddenly had widespread Petechiae (blood spots under the skin) was subsequently transferred to ITU and, by the time me and my adult kids got there, he looked like a grape. Anyway ventilation was stopped as agreed to by all of us.
The Dr requested permission for a pm as there was ‘an uncertain clinical picture’ and they wanted to ascertain what had gone on. I would have agreed to this but his partner, who he’d been with for years (and who we all got on with), said no. I didn’t push it.
At no point did the thought of foul play even enter my head.
I think the death certificate said organ failure, pneumonia, blood condition.

It’s making me laugh so much. The room did it. The insulin pump did it. The doctors did it. A nurse did it because they had professional jealousy of Lucy. A pharmacist did it.

I also fully understand why a family may not want a PM. It’s highly distressing when you realise what exactly happens during one, especially as this is a tiny little baby that has already been through so much. I shared a little more from Mondays CS round up and it explained one of the reasons the parents didn’t want one is because it would delay getting F home, and we’ve already seen statements that all they really wanted to do by then is just get home

Ive just read that open mouthed, If she knew all that and that this little precious baby deteriorated very quickly and totally opposite to what a NEC would present as - then why the hell did she agree with the coroner to record the cause of death as a NEC. I’m sorry but this is literally in my opinion this is total negligence. There’s innocent mistakes in all jobs. This was a big rooster up for a experienced consultant. A big rooster up that prevented a murderer being stopped earlier.
You ain’t missing anything, This is shocking and it’s giving the defense now a hook through which to cast doubt in the minds of the jurors.
In my opinion it has not. I’ve made another post about what happened to my estranged husband.
Not everything in medicine can be explained.
I do agree that there most definitely should have been a pm.

I do find it interesting that she was still working at the hospital right up until her arrest in 2018, a good two years from the last death/ attempted death documented. Having carried out such a close knit of killings and then being out in admin… I know serial killers can go years with out killing again but thought she might of moved on to carry out her crimes.

I’m thinking was the FB searching to check on the family’s to see if they posted any concerns, she must of been fully aware by this point she is being suspected of something.

The same people everytime. The people who create these groups are the same people who created Stars and Arthur's groups.
At least there's no talk of any 'tribute' pages, they were beyond sick 🤢.
Do we know if the 'Trusting Evil' page is still going?

Further update for anyone not on Twitter so missing live reporting
Also the posters that have already suggested the defence will rip the Dr to shreds weren’t far wrong

Did the collapses not follow her from night to day? I think by the day shift ones her ‘urges’ were really getting out of control, if guilty. IMO, it really would be easier at night.
Sorry I said day to night but meant to say night to day. This all started on nights, then she was moved to days for closer supervision (they must have suspected incompetence at this point) and then eventually she was moved onto admin duties as the deaths followed her.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused, just tried!

To me this is a head turn to the NG side for me. I'll try and write it as succinctly as I can -

I've said before about thresholds and tolerance levels - and how these can become skewed dependent on your experiences/situation.

A Consultant going along with a cause of death and not actively encouraging a PM even if she had a tiny niggle of doubt puts me right into the negligent camp. If a CONSULTANT can't even get it right for these babies in death, what guarantee do we have of staff getting it right for these babies in life?

I have every respect for medical professionals and especially in a role like this, it must be bloody hard work. But I think they were overloaded, perhaps left to make decisions they shouldn't have, accepted babies that were too poorly for their skill set and it all went to tit.

Edited to add: I know there's chat about the deaths/collapses when she was moved to days - but as far as I'm away at the moment - that's a prosecution statement and to me it seems very sensationalist like many of their other statements so far. I really would like to know exact stats of deaths/collapses whether LL was there or not.

There are going to be so many people involved in this trial with a lot of regrets. I hope there is more safe guarding to stop this happening again in the future if LL is G, so that things such as PMs are insisted on in similar circumstances, instead of just moving a potential SK to days they take other steps to stop her sooner etc. If ofc LL is NG then I still hope many lessons are learnt regarding care given and negligence issues in the future
