I’ve a thought she’s going down diminished responsibility or manslaughter. Although to have such a mental health issue the Nmc should have been told so that opens up a can of worms for alllll the people connected to her. Will she say she’s schizophrenic if she can’t remember stuff?
She won’t get away with pleading that one, having psychosis doesn’t give you amnesia 😊

Will it go, prosecution presents child As case, then defence presents child As case or does it go all cases by prosecution first then all defence like in the opening statements?
It will be all prosecution first but defence can cross examine the witnesses. It’s only when prosecution have finished with their witnesses that the defence can start (and then prosecution can cross examine).

I’m not sure how prosecution are going to present their case though. They’ve got the medical expert up to go through the equipment on NNU but defence has already had a chance to cross examine on that part.

Yeh, then there’s this. Some things can be completely ‘innocent’ but weird when theyre not connected to multiple deaths. I do think we need to hear more about the FB searches eg was it only these families
to get a better perspective.
Absolutely agreed. But I suppose she’s perhaps searched parents of babies where no foul play has been discovered but maybe it happened. If she could say “I do know I shouldn’t have searched parents but I did it regularly out of curiosity” but she hasn’t said that. Maybe sometimes she did search them out of curiosity and yet there was still a reason she searched others - especially on anniversaries. Definitely want to find out more!

This tickled me 🤣
can I also ask the nurses.. lucy was requesting to work with certain rooms and I think sometimes specific babies. Is that typical? Of my nurse friends.. I know they prefer certain areas eg paediatric, a&e etc but I can’t imagine any of them asking to be with specific patients. I can imagine if there is a harder patient group to work with you might all discuss sharing that around for stress reasons etc but for one nurse to ask “I want to be here or I want to work with this specific baby”
Is that fairly standard?
In my experience, a lot of nurses asked to look after who they had been looking after on previous shifts. This is just to maintain continuity of care which is very good practice.

I don't understand why she spoke at all in police interview. I'd be interested to know at what point she acquired legal advice and if she eventually gave no comment interviews.

I voted guilty because that's my inclination and it means nothing here online. I'd hope that I would be able to keep guilty/innocent far from my mind at this point were I on a jury.

If she gave no comment in police interviews the judge can direct the jury to draw an adverse inference from her silence. Essentially telling the jury to view her silence with suspicion.

Surely she would have been advised of her right to legal representation?
I’m pretty sure the Police would have adhered to proper procedure in this high profile case.

I wonder if she didn't understand the severity of allegations because she's innocent or if she understood perfectly, is guilty and is arrogant. Or a crazy combination of any of that. Just throwing it out there.

I used to think that if I were an accused innocent, I'd sing like a canary in order to defend myself. Having watched so many things unfold in the past, I think I'd take the legal representation immediately regardless of my innocence. They can't pick apart silence.

Will the families be being offered support throughout this trial? My thoughts are with them, as always.

Sorry you have to experience that. English is my third language and for sure I made a mistakes sometimes too. I would hope so as long as we can communicate quite clearly people here don't mind that ( and I think most of them don't have any problems and isn't grammar/spelling police).
I understood you perfectly well with what you had written. If English is your third language very well done for your presentation of it x

and they’ve not all been murdered.
well… hopefully not!!!

yes those are my thoughts too! Like if she ONLY looked up these families then that is definitely suspicious behaviour. If she made a habit of looking up loads of families it’s still a bit weird but it does make it less suspicious.

I just keep thinking of those poor babies. It’s breaking my heart! I’ll never forget falling asleep sat next to my first sons incubator my head resting on the side just exhausted and waking up to a doctor doing something to him can’t remember now, and that new mum panic that someone was trying to take my baby and then waking up properly and realising he was safe it was a doctor. I can’t imagine having that moment and then looking back years later in this sort of case and thinking Jesus they were hurting my baby. Hope you understand my word vomit lol

It was Savannah arriving in a pink and/or light blue suit that used to make me roll :ROFLMAO:
Old Pinstripes (the brother-in-law) and his FB rant. The trolls were all “doubting Thomases” 😂

I’ve been finding it hard to keep up with this thread - moves too fast and I appear to be busier than I was during the FS & SB trial.

obviously I’ve never committed a crime… so can’t really compare… but having been in a situation in a previous job years and years ago where I was accused of something I absolutely didn’t do… I was, as you’ve said in your post, very VERY vocal in defending myself! I was ambushed and didn’t have a union rep with me (even though I was entitled to one, I didn’t know at the time and wasn’t informed). When I think back to it I can safely say I still wouldn’t have done anything different in terms of how vocal I was! I was innocent and wanted them to know it!! I even offered up my phone for them to check then and there but they declined!

You’re right… I think it’s what makes it even more horrifying the fact these people are in huge positions of trust and as a parent you automatically assume your child is safe with them. I cannot even begin to imagine the hell these parents are going through right now, having to relive the worst time in their lives and now hearing all of this in court about what she allegedly did.

Yeah I was surprised that the defence were able to cross examine the expert witness today as in other trials I have followed, they only usually get cross examined once they have given all their evidence to the prosecution, and vice versa.

I can only assume that as he was setting out the way the equipment works and the tiers/structure of a nicu unit that it made sense to allow cross examination at that stage so it is easier for the jury to follow. Otherwise he could be giving his evidence in 22 charges for many days without them having those clarifications and therefore not fully understanding how the unit/equipment works etc.

I don’t know why but I’d had no thought of the parents leaving the hospital and grieving and it being unknown what she had Potentially done. I imagined a big argument I guess but the person who posted a couple of pages ago about the police having to tell the parents years later that the babies were potentially hurt by a nurse claiming to look after them. The thought of those parents grieving for a baby who had sadly died is heartbreaking but the thought of those parents grieving for a baby who had died needlessly, a baby who had been murdered is just something else

I’ve no doubt some cases do stick with professionals, they are only human. I suppose all it says to me though is that if these cases stuck with Lucy then why does she say she can’t remember searching them on Facebook. It just doesn’t add up.
would she not have been advised by her lawyer to not deny the outright evidence, but to say she didn’t remember less her words get twisted/used against her? I wonder if she will later rely on in court some explanation she didn’t give in questioning. I’m sure another poster said this was standard lawyerly advice?

also, if I’d just been irrefutably called out on unprofessional conduct on top of everything else my mind might go to screen saver mode.

also, I’m guessing the prosecution used the searches for a reason, especially in the opening remarks, otherwise it would get torn apart wouldn’t it? If she’s been a regular Facebook patient checker.

I’ve seen first hand through my job where a very senior and well respected consultant surgeon removed the wrong from ovary from a patient and left her infertile. He refused to accept blame and then tried to blame the student nurses who were also in the theatre (but didn’t touch the patient). It all got swept under the carpet and he got transferred to a different hospital.

I had a miscarriage / suspected molar pregnancy/ D&C. I was lead to believe everything was ok. I went to the gp and asked for my results as I’d not heard anything. She said you would’ve received notice within three weeks if it was anything to worry about. Four months later I got a letter can you please come see a consultant immediately. Turns out I had had one and should have been being closely monitored. I was told “ sorry, administrative error. “ My letter was dated correctly two weeks after and had been sat in a tray the whole time.

I agree...she shouldn't have been searching at all. But it is clearly something that lots of people do. Unethical, yes. Creepy, yep. Murderous, maybe not.
I can totally see why it could seem to be particularly ghoulish on Xmas day. On the other hand it's just another day and sometimes a very quiet day for people who don't have responsibilities at home with fewer distractions. I think it's a reach to say that the significance of the day adds greater weight to the charges.
It was more than that, though. She also searched for the parents' surname on the anniversary of their baby's death. When questioned, she claimed to not remember doing this. Yet she recalled enough to be sure of the anniversary date and their surname. They also said she did multiple searches in quick succession. Sounds very weird to me. To be searching on Christmas and their anniversary sounds as though she was looking to find posts about their loss - because these are significant dates when a parent might post about their lost child - which is not normal. That said, we definitely need more context in order to understand her reasoning.

Does anyone know if she ever did any shifts in other hospitals? Something is really playing on my mind about a experience we had with our 4th daughter with a nurse that was just covering for a day? My daughter went from discharge in 48 hours to back in ICU very poorly from this women
the police will have had to examine every set of notes per shift including bank shifts she did elsewhere, hence why it took so long to bring charges after she was stopped from working. That being said, cases like this often being about a hyper vigilance so this sudden feeling regarding a traumatic event would be normal. I suggest you contact the hospitals PALS service and explain that you’re struggling to process the events around what happened - notes would be pulled and the relevant clinician or clinical lead should respond to you based on documentation. These processes are sligtly different to the LL case/evidence, as there’s not a ‘finger pointing’ vibe within the nhs usually - which possibly explains why it took longer to admit there was a pattern of babies under LL care dying. If there were any errors made, these are good for a department to reflect on and to find ways to prevent them happening further. It might also give you some closure over what will be a triggering 6 months with this trial/parents giving evidence etc.
