I fear for him. It's one piece of bad luck, following another all the time and weird not normal behaviour. I hope he has amazing people around him and gets well because at the moment if he was found dead I wouldn't be shocked at the news.
I too do not think it will end well for him and I'm dreading it. I hope he takes the wake up call before it's too late.

No I’ll just use my common sense thanks! Unless he was at the other side of the balcony there’s no way he’s going over that if he’s unconscious. As you’ve said yourself he’d fall to the ground not elevate over a balcony! Especially as he seemed to have his hands full with a whiskey bottle, phone and lighter.
I really do think he was just absolutely out of it, potentially blacked out and went over, either that or perhaps trying to climb onto whatever was beside his balcony, knowing they didn't want him to leave his room. The boy was absolutely out of it, going by the pictures of the room. But I wasn't there, and that is only my opinion.

Honestly, the amount of people who think they are invincible on drink or drugs is mental, one season alone in Magaluf I think about 6 people had fallen to their deaths although not all solely down to drink/drugs - one girl had got locked out and was trying to get onto the next balcony to get into her friends apartment :(

I don't think we will ever find out the truth sadly, we can all only speculate. Either way, its a sad end to a young life.

I don’t think some people understand how big of an impact one direction had on people. They were such an important part of people’s lives growing up, and to lose someone who was such a happy piece of growing up is soul destroying

Here is my take 🤣

Liam saw himself as the Gary Barlow figure of 1D. I think Liam has had a hard time accepting that is not the case. He became arrogant and it’s been hard for him to undo the damage that arrogance caused to his reputation.

Harry has managed to become successful through sheer hard work (can’t be denied) good PR and managing to create an illusion of himself. The reason why Harry is so popular is because he has created an air of mystery around him, he rarely opens up about anything personal and uses a lot of deflection back onto his music. Harry is confident and self assured that’s why it works for him. Liam is not. He is an impulsive over sharer who has become cringy through trying too hard and instead of getting his head down and creating a real career he was off partying in vegas and enjoying the ego trip of being in 1D far too long - longer than the others did. He found it hard to let go and become who he wanted to be, and he still doesn’t know.

Zayn for me is the best singer, I love his voice and music but he is the absolute opposite to Liam - Zayn wants to make music but hates fame. Liam wants to be famous more than he loves music. You can tell Zayn loves making music he is good at it and really spends a lot of time working out what works for him. Harry seems to enjoy performing music

Louis I feel sorry for and I don’t think he’s particularly talented singer and that’s been hard for him, he is not a strong singer and has a hard life. I hope he finds what makes him happy as it must be hard to see others around you do better and be working very hard yourself.

Niall seems very grounded and has a good sense of self, is able to balance himself and is coming out as a very good singer/songwriter as he’s relaxed and not pressuring himself to be someone he isn’t, he knows what his limits are and he is making great music I really like so much of his work. It’s not setting the world on fire like Harry but that’s ok - you don’t always have to be the best to still be good at something. Niall has a long career ahead I think as he gets better at what he’s doing.

Liam I suspect just can’t find what he is looking for and he’s drifting around. He looks weird now and I think he’s not a good or present father at all. Being a dad seems to have pulled Zayn out of whatever serious addictions he was battling and that’s good to see.

What an ignorant remark.
My grandfather died young from alcohol disease, as did his son (my uncle) leaving behind 2 young kids. My Nan and my aunt nearly went to early graves themselves trying to get them sober time after time. Believe me, I wish that I was ignorant of the wave of devastation that alcohol brings into families.

I hadn't heard much about him in recent years, but can't help wondering if the poor guy would still be alive and well, if One Direction had never happened. I know it's pointless saying that. But the sudden fame and riches and all that goes with it, must be quite difficult to deal with, and then it all stops, when the band split up.

May he rest in peace, and I hope that those who mourn him, including his young son, will find comfort, in time, in good memories.

Mikey from boyzone made a good point earlier. Record companies etc have a duty of care to help their young stars before it is too late. I remember when Stephen Gately died. It must have broken their hearts

Why do some people infantilse him? He's pushing 30 and he's still a shit father. He's been a legal adult for 12 years. I became a parent when I was 20 and I just get on with it. There's no excuses for being a shit father when he's 30 years old.

I don't doubt he doesn't have much to do with his son, but I can't help but feel a bit sorry for him too. Cheryl completely used him as a sperm donar, even possibly knowing she'd have control of the baby as he is too young to want to be a dad. Theres a nasty grooming aspect of their relationship.

That combined with the end of 1D (which happened not long before bears birth) must have really messes with his head.
I don't think Cheryl is to blame for him being a deadbeat at all. At the end of the day, he's the one that makes the choice about how much time to spend with his son. He's pushing 30 and still falling out of clubs with a new girl every three months instead. He's simply a prick

It's completely acceptable stop moaning, it's okay to snark on celebs rest of time but not because they are dead, it's actually best time to as they can't sue you.

I don't know him whilst it's sad for his friends and family that's who it should be sad for, People really need to stop wallowing in pity for someone who didn't know they exists death.
I think you should change your forum name to Snarky McSnarkface.

Re Maya. Her claims don’t lose merit just because he has sadly died. To be blunt, the talk surrounding his death only adds to her narrative that he was unstable. I haven’t followed it much but at the end of the day, her experience is her experience and she should be free to discuss it regardless. We have a polite habit in society of positively eulogising the dead which is respectful but at the end of the day everyone has their faults. Liam wasn’t perfect as much as his fans wanted to believe he was, he wasn’t. Nobody is. It can’t have been easy for Maya to make the decision to share her story, some of these fandoms are so unhealthily invested in their idols so to speak out must have taken courage and she shouldn’t be slated for doing so because of his death.

I guess we’ll see what the truth is as the weeks go on. She said he sent her harassing text messages didn’t she from multiple phones so I assume she’ll have evidence of this to back up her side of the story. Whether she chooses to continue to share her story after his death is up to her but she should be allowed to without any judgement and blame.

I guess it’s up to her whether she continues to tell her story after his death,
In her book said, he wouldn’t threaten her that he’d jump of the balcony when he was in one of his rages. He’d call her family claiming he was going to die. He’s put so much trauma on Maya.

I wasn't a Boyzone fan, but when Stephen died and the rest of the band went to collect him and bring him home, then spent the night in the church with him prior to his funeral, it made me see them all in a different light. They were genuinely brothers who loved him.
Same. They were all genuine lovely lads and remember it was the 90’s and not many out and out gay Irish men and they all supported him so much.

It's funny how it's only the failed X factor people who are bitching about the show. 1D got to see the world and make millions because of X factor. The 5 of them wouldnt have got that if they'd never entered the show.
They may have got to see the world and experience things us normal folk would never get the chance to, but that doesn't stop them being exploited in the process and having their mental health run ragged.

Let's not even get started on the dynamic between Liam and Cheryl and the abuse of power that was there.

He must have been in Bear’s life recently - this was before the release of his latest single and has just broken my heart.

as someone who lost a parent through addiction you can’t ever let yourself believe it was a choice, it’s the hardest battle to have in your own head and if you let it win then it’s a dangerous place to be for your own happiness and future. Not a huge fan of Cheryl but I think she will handle this in exactly the right way with Bear.

I lost a parent to addiction too. Honestly, he was lost long before he died, to himself, to me, to his family, to his various partners etc.
Even though logically I know it was a disease, there will always be a small part of me that wonders why I wasn’t enough.
The whole thing is very sad, I’m sure, and hope his mum and family will help him to feel loved and safe

From this evening's Popbitch newsletter:

Back in the early years of One Direction we had a Popbitch party with a special guest, a famous X Factor act. Chatting then, the one thing we were struck with was them describing how they were on the series when a 14 year-old Liam Payne first auditioned as a solo star.

Frank Sinatra-singing Liam was unsuccessful then but they struck up a friendship, so he confided in them that he kept getting told he just wasn't cool enough to be a pop star. Liam seemed to go out of his way ever since to prove with his love for drink, drugs and tattoos that it wasn't the case.

It's such a shame he didn't have the same faith in himself that some real taste-makers didEW EW. Our favourite story about Liam was that in his post-One Direction years he got into art, and started to do some drawing.

Word of his new hobby reached David Hockney's great-nephew, who kindly arranged for Liam to meet the man himself.

In advance of the meeting, Liam made a portrait of Hockney, and presented it to him when they did get to hang out.
Hockney was so taken with the result that he hung the portrait up in his house.
-------------

A close second favourite story? Liam and Cheryl stayed together publicly at the end of their relationship purely to piss off Dan Wootton, then Showbiz editor at The Sun, who had reported their break-up.
