I like following her but agree she’s so vanilla. I wish she was more open because it’s more relatable and likeable! It just feels like she’s holding something back to me, maybe as she grows older she’ll feel more confident being herself on camera.

Yeah I had to unfollow cause I realised her content and online personality was very boring to me. After a while seeing the same basic outfits everyday gets draining especially if the person doesn’t seem to keep you hooked with their stories or personality.

Isn’t she getting married next year?
Must be confused with someone else, as not sure why you would think Kate was getting married next year as she isn’t even publicly dating or engaged. Unless you know secret info/ scoop?? 👀

To be fair, Kate had shared several links to raise awareness of Palestine’s plight on her IG stories in the week prior to that post about educating herself more about the conflict, which is a lot more than what many influencers with much bigger Instagram followings had done. She had also previously posted a lot of links for BLM & for other global tragedies + one of the few fashion influencers I’d seen yesterday post an IG stories link for anti racism remembering George Floyd’s death 1 year on. As a Black Woman myself, I appreciate that she does try to raise awareness unlike most others who do nothing.

Watched a Q&A where Kate goes she charged £200 - £300 per Instagram post for 50k followers. She now has 479k followers. Going by a rough guess here, that would be £2400 per Instagram post 😱Checked her Instagram for this month and there were 8 explicit ad posts excluding affiliate links and links to YouTube video sponsors. Do the maths and that explains why your average viewer can afford half the lifestyle influencers promote.

That’s insane!! It’s like an athlete or model though in my opinion - they need to make their money now before they aren’t relevant, cancelled or eventually people aren’t interested in them anymore. I don’t see her being the type to start her own brand or create anything long lasting?

It’s insane, I do wonder how the brands justify that, is there really that much of reach? Like how many of her followers are actually purchasing?

Can we discuss this girl pleaseee she honestly irks me to no end UGH. I had to unfollow Kate because I find myself feeling so down and envious when I see her come up on my Instagram. First off, she’s naturally gorgeous and petite with the most perfect little nose and stunning hair and inevitably that does really well in the realm of influencing. Society automatically puts pretty skinny white girls on a pedestal even if they lack any personality or uniqueness whatsoever. Kate, like myself is in her early twenties and while most of us are working our asses off and still ending up with the bare minimum, her simple white girl beauty makes her thousands of pounds per week. Her style, while it is nice and classy, her content is forever repetitive just scroll through her Instagram its all essentially variations of the same 10 or so outfits. Yet she continues to grow and grow and grow in numbers and her money is piling up simply from getting her best friend to take a picture of her outfit to upload to her Instagram and get paid between £2-3K PER POST. She doesn’t even put effort into her content, barely socialises with other influences unless to take each others pictures, she doesn’t even edit her photos or make effort on her stories apart from showing gifted products or a quick selfie/photo of her laptop on the balcony saying she’s doing work, but most infuriatingly, the designer bags and jewellery etc. I swear she treats herself to a new designer bag each week and it’s just so unrelatable and out of touch. Especially during the pandemic when most of her followers have likely been struggling. I know Kate does seem to be a lovely girl and I’m fully aware of the fact that I’m literally venting here because I’m envious of how easy she has it and the amount of privilege she (and many other of those thin, pretty white girls) have. Does anyone else feel this way at times in regards to influencers especially the ones who appear to be raking it in by during the absolute bare minimum? And how many of them are the same, repetitive content, lacking personality, diversity yet still managing to grow bigger day by day. I actually see other influencers/creators who put so much more effort and creativity into their content as well as engagement and realness on their stories, yet they might not get as much attention as they don’t fit societies standard of ‘pretty’ etc which is really sad to see. Also, I watched one of her YT vids recently the one where she surprised her mom with a kitten and you get so see her parents and the house they live in they don’t look rich or posh at ALL compared to Kate!! Like they appear to almost be complete opposite of her, deffo have a look if you haven’t already. Was interesting to see, I just thought she would have come from a fairly well off classy family but definitely doesn’t seem like the case. I wonder where her designer materialism etc comes from as her family don’t seem interested in that style of stuff at all! Also weird to think their young daughter is likely richer than they are what with her Mercedes, multiple cartier, £50K worth of designer etc. Anyway, sorry rant/vent over just want to chat about her and maybe start a conversation on influencers and their privilege. I’m not someone who hates influencers or anything like that but I just inevitably start to get down and depressed at how easy many of them have it from doing the bare minimum/basically being able to use their looks to make £££££££

I feel the same about her and I remind myself that this influencer thing is probably going to be short lived! If it was me I would be saving and investing my money making sure I had something in the future as it’s essentially being a model/athlete so you need to plan ahead but they all seem to blow it on designer gear??

It will be interesting to watch it all play out in the future and how influencer culture moves forward? I feel like people will move on with their lives and lose interest and what will they be able to do to try and catch a new and younger audience? It will be a constant battle to try and stay relevant and ahead of trends. So hard to say if this is a long term career but definitely remind yourself you’re working hard now and will be working towards something that will last you a lifetime etc. whereas there’s so much uncertainty with people like Kate!

I don’t want to sound patronising and I think it’s fine for you to come here to discuss and vent but if it’s really affecting you then take a step back, block anyone that makes you feel bad about yourself/your life. Influencers aren’t going anywhere for now and it’s up-to all of us to protect ourselves from the things we find triggering in life. Follow only accounts that make you feel good and update your explore page settings. Just my input, as you were 🤗

Yes totally and I do often take a step back from social media or have to unfollow people if I find myself feeling more jealous/envious and frustrated with them because it can really truly get you down. Just from time to time, (like now for example) I get caught up with that frustration and feeling like it’s so unfair how easy and privileged some people can have it when others are struggling or working hard but still not making even a quarter of that some of these girls make. I know I need to just accept that life can be unfair in a lot of ways and some people will always have it easier and get so much given the them, but it can be hard to not complain about it every now and then! Yeah I mean I definitely initially follow people who make me feel inspired or good on Instagram but it’s such a shame when gradually more and more of them begin to slip into a sort of out of touch reality and you just can’t relate to them at all or you start to feel inadequate because ‘wow look at everything this person has and they’re the same age as me’ sort of thing. Anyways, it will be interesting to see though how long many of these influencers will stay relevant and be able to continue to live such lives of privilege essentially funded by other people.

Felt the same way recently. Lighting and angles make a HUGE difference in photos, like crazy difference. Add makeup, skincare, hairstyles to that. Some of Kate’s stories are filtered to the point where her under eye bags are missing. And in the next story where she’s not Instagram posing or standing in the light, those ‘flaws’ are more visible. All I’m getting at is no one looks as flawless as they do on social media. See some of the photos tagged on her profile, old pictures or the pictures shared by her friends, gorgeous a million times, just different than the same angle, lighting and editing of her Instagram photos which probably took 30 odd shots to get.

Influencer work is unfair but good on her, you know what I mean? I wish influencers were more upfront with how much they earn, then you won’t be comparing yourself to someone who’s earning a 6 figure income. We only compare, when we can relate to someone. Instagram life really screws that up.

Cliche as hell but nobody’s life is perfect. For influencers it’s not enough to have designer stuff but everyone NEEDS to know that you have it. It has to make it on the gram. The lowkey bragging by influencers is what irks me and makes me question how fulfilled they really are. Just my two cents lol

Yeah I do completely get what you mean and I think this is absolutely the case with a looooot of influencers to the point where many of them are practically catfishing their audience. However, I don’t really see that with Kate I think she genuinely does look the same in all photos and videos of her whether they’re edited a bit or not, it’s clear she doesn’t alter anything with facetune at least. She is one of those naturally very beautiful girls in all angles and she knows how to work it and is clearly confident in her looks which is great as she can easily and comfortably use that to her advantage. Any filters she might use on stories is normal everyone uses them and we all know they do smooth the skin out. I think what bothers me really with Kate is that she seems (or at least seemed to have) come across as really genuine and lovely esp in comparison to others, so I want to like her/look up to her in a way or feel inspired by her but I just can’t when it comes to the showing off her multiple designer purchases (as non flashy as they may be, they’re still hella expensive and unrealistic for majority of people her age to afford). Like, it’s just a bit frustrating (I’m jealous here), when you start to see just HOW rich people your age are becoming from doing something so easy compared to most. Again, nothing wrong with making a living through influencing or anything as long as you’re a morally decent person but it is just a shame how their literal job is to influence yet many of them lose touch with reality and it gets to them essentially, whether it’s intentional or not, showing off their luxurious easy life constantly going out for brunch and treating themselves to designer items each week. Which is just so u realistic and as a follower of them it ultimately leave you feeling a bit tit about your own life. Because the vast majority of the people who are watching them, and are the people who quite literally got them to where they are, are people who are working 9-5 low income jobs, may be struggling to make a living, and may feel more behind in terms of buying a car, apartment, house, marrying young, having kids etc. I think I’m kind of over following influencers or fashion influencers mainly to be honest, or at least the bigger ones. I’m kinda tired of them essentially relying on ME (their followers) to buy the stuff they get sent for free so that they get to live a rich and easy life. Consumerism is at an all time high too and it really isn’t healthy for the environment or for anyone really. It’s not realistic to constantly keep up with every trend or buy everything that the person they’re following is wearing or has.
