Just catching up, need to vent my utter disgust over the Cooper situation.
Her six year old cat is in a worse condition than my partners almost 18 year old dog, which is at the end stage of kidney failure. The eye problems are a result of the kidney disease. (Partners dogs eyes are watery but no longer infected because my partner woke up, saw the dogs eye had gone gunky overnight and was at the vets the same morning like a responsible pet owner).
A prescription diet at this point is like chucking a deck chair off the Titanic and hoping it doesn't sink as fast. It will make no difference, nor will any other kind of intervention. They WOULD have helped if Jack had taken him to the vets when he first started showing symptoms. That is the stage that suffering can be managed, and the damage slowed down. An animal showing such advanced, extreme symptoms as Cooper is has lost over 75% of its kidney function. Kidney damage cannot be reversed. It will not improve, and symptoms that advanced wont change now, because the only way to improve them, would be for the kidneys to regain function, which is physically impossible.
Any time I talk about this kind of thing, people always want to say how they kept their pet comfortable with diet and other treatments and had another happy ten years, That will not be happening for Cooper, it's literally not physically possible for Cooper, he would be a world first and a marvel of the veterinary world because it is not possible to have such advanced symptoms and still be at a stage where ther is enough kidney function left that you can slow the damage and live a normal or comfortable life.
As for the insurance, I don't care if Jack chooses not to insure her pets. Insurance is designed for people who do not have access to large amounts of money in one lump sum. We all know Jack has money. My partner doesn't insure his dog, because he has enough income that paying your usual vets bills isn't an issue, he'd rather just pay the vets himself than have to deal with an insurance company. If something were excessively expensive that he couldn't pay from his personal bank account, he has multiple credit cards with over £20k each available he can access immediately, aswell as owning his £500k house and supercar outright, and having never been in debt, so in an absolute worst case scenario, he's got another safety net in terms of being able to raise substantial amounts of money/loans very quickly. Before he had those things he insured his pets. And yes, he has paid thousands to insurers on dogs of the past because the dog never got sick or needed expensive treatments. And he doesn't see it as wasted money.
Jack encouraging people to do this is another glaring example of Jacks wealth. I genuinely think that she thinks she is saving people on a monthly expense, because she doesn't understand what it's like to live without access to large amounts of money, because she's always had access to large amounts of money. THAT is why she doesn't need to insure her pets. She sees people paying insurance as an unnecessary monthly expense because she can't comprehend that that is literally the only way they will be able to access funding for expensive problems and treatments.
Sorry for the ramble. I'm just so bleeping annoyed and needed to get it out.
