I was having a conversation today at work which made me think of Jack (I try not to). Without outing myself, I work in a field linked to addiction/trauma and have lived experience of both. This is relevant as I have a new colleague who doesn’t. Today, we had a conversation as basically, she picks the wrong battles. So she is very keen to help and get it right but she focuses on something like “did I use the right way of identifying your circumstances?” Rather than dealing with the crisis and maybe rephrase and this isn’t actually the issue you think it is? My point being, Jack focuses on the issues she THINKS matters because, maybe just maybe, she hasn’t actually experienced most of what she claims to have? Or to be generous, not recently so doesn’t understand the current climate? I know this point has been raised before but it really stood out today.
Some of the best I work with don’t have lived experience but what they do is listen, they educate themselves and they throw themselves into doing all they can to learn And help with change. I fail to see what Jack has achieved?
Beyond anything, I am astonished how she can’t see how teaching “the poors” how to make a quiche for the coronation isn’t just bad taste but also again plays into the narrative of “if you just tried harder…..” or has never had the experience of being so beyond skint that you eat sugar for a week so electric And money for flour is beyond at that point.
it’s made me sad writing this, it’s why I avoid her thread a lot because she is abusing multiple narratives I’ve lived, survived and lost people too. She really harms progress and I’ve questioned more than once if she is some sort of plant.
what I will point out to Jack is that in all my time, I’ve never seen her doxxed or abused (rare occasion someone goes too far, it’s pulled straight away) People are worried; they are upset; it’s causing huge harm but none of that matters in Jack World, it’s all about YOU.
