Sorry for the swears. 15/6/2020
I live in a council owned 1960's block of flats that had the exact same cladding as Grenfell installed. It was only removed a few months ago and we are still awaiting the new insulation and cladding to be put up.
I was part of the residents group involved with the initial installation on our block, and I can tell you it is not as simple as Jack makes out. I can hardly believe the audacity of her, thinking that she knows the facts to make a pronouncement. All because she once, many years ago, briefly answered the phones in a call centre.
As for her statement that it was due to racism, can she explain how we had the self same cladding on a block with majority white residents. It could quite easily have been my block that went on fire, it could quite easily be majority white people that had died. Or do our lives not matter to her? The fault for the cladding disaster is far more nuanced than she could ever understand. The enquiry will no doubt come up with a catalogue of errors. I can put my hand on my heart and state that anyone who was involved did not want the death of anyone. Without doubt they would do things differently had they been able to see into the future.
She has never even lived in a tower block, certainly not one covered in flammable cladding for 5 years after the horrendous Grenfell, the way many people across the country have (and some still do). She doesn't realise how privileged she is to live in the property she does. All she does is complain about having to rent. Well it might come as a surprise, but most of the residents in these social housing blocks also rent!
She can keep her misinformation and ill informed judgements to herself.
