Hadjicostas.
Which isn't that difficult a name.🤷‍♂️

ETA
@Peachy9 you were fastest finger today, got there before me. I should have taken more notice at typing classes at school. Oh yes, very progressive our school was; typing for boys and woodwork for girls, well at least for one term.

Argh this is exactly how I felt - Silver Linings does say she's referring to her second name Hadjicostas rather than Melissa but she still completely ignores all the other factors that go along with cultural exclusion/otherness.
I know she means Hadjicostas, but she was being vague for attention as per usual. I am incredibly angry at her tone deaf reply which as you say, completely misses the point that was being made.

I have given up hope that she will be found out for the deceiver she most definitely is. Though without doubt she is fading from the limelight and will end up like a poor man's Norma Desmond.

Can we have Norma Desmond quotes that fit the bill for our Jack? I'll go first "I am gonna be bigger than peanut butter" 😂

I am actually in shock at her tweet about regretting changing her name.

It's like the ultimate example of privilege in action that she compares herself to Poorna Bell and Kamala Harris, two women of colour who didn't change their first names, who grew up in (I am assuming here) white, english speaking communities where their names were another thing along with skin colour that marked them as different, and along comes Woe Is Me Monroe, who is "whiter than mayo" or whatever she called herself, middle class, comfortable upbringing to white parents in the south east of England, and her contribution to the conversation is "waaaaaaah, poor me, I regret my decision which I made of my own volition to change my name from " Melissa" every day."

Well that's not what you've said before!?!

She can't let anyone else BE can she? Literally every thing in the universe must be seen through the lens of how this effects Jack Monroe.

I just can't with this bullshit today.
I just can't imagine the suffering of a white English woman with an unusual surname born and brought up in the south of England. It must have been a living hell.

I have given up hope that she will be found out for the deceiver she most definitely is. Though without doubt she is fading from the limelight and will end up like a poor man's Norma Desmond.

Seriously though, was she not Jack Monroe when she first starting appearing in The Guardian's middle-class-porn section? It's an important point, even beyond the nonsense victimhood that she's trying desperately to claim. I could be wrong of course but wasn't she JM before she was a writer? (whatever that means) This blasĂŠ rewriting of history, if that's what it is, shouldn't go unchallenged.

How about "And I promise you, I'll never desert you again because after DKL we'll make another show and another show. You see, this is my life! It always will be! Nothing else! Just us, the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark! "

Well that never happened, just like all of her other promises. 😂

There why she's never off twitter if she stayed off for longer than a few weeks. She would be forgotten. I can just see it by the way she constantly has to insert herself to all the blue ticks.

Hello I'm here
It's really sad. If she was a nicer person I'd feel sorry for her, but after the way I've seen her talk to well meaning people I've discovered she's not.

We must be due a story about how someone at her publishers forced her to change her name and because she was ickle and poor she just went along with it because she didn't know she could refuse.

Inserting herself into a conversation by BME people about discrimination. That's grim.

Of course she was. She’s IS rewriting history. She changed her name before she got famous, and certainly didn’t change it because she thought Hadjicostas would be a barrier to a successful writing career because it was “too foreign”.

I always figured she did it because she’s impulsive and personality disordered and constantly trying to reinvent herself. Not to mention the old classic, she wanted to hurt her parents.

Also back in her transgender non binary period she used to rage at being “deadnamed” whenever there was any mention of Melissa Hadjicostas, so it’s pretty ironic that she’s now pretending to regret ditching her surname.

"I am big. It's the pictures television cookery shows that got small."

"Get to absolute duck out! Or shall I call my lawyer servant?!"

Per previous narrative, she changed her name after quitting the fire service, mid-job search. She was Jack Monroe by the time she started appearing looking sad in local newspapers (actually she was Jackie Munroe, but that was a typo).

So if by writer she's talking about starting her blog, then she's not wrong here.

Yep, and if you check out her tweet in reply to Poorna she's been replied to and even quote tweeted by squiggles all centring JM and the struggle of being white with no reference to the original point being made. It's bleeping depressing.

In comparison to say, Smith or Cooper (lol), Hadjicostas is ‘difficult’. It’s not ‘English’, she would have had to spell it out to some people, and she may have been picked on at school for having a Greek surname.

Yes, she changed it for perhaps questionable reasons, yes, she’s now retroactively regretting changing it now, and yes, she’s trying to insert herself into dialogue about BAME women and their names - all very shabby and very HER. But I would imagine for her, maybe it was difficult to have a Greek name at times, especially for someone who is at odds with who she really is.

I still think she’s a ghoul! Just seeing it from a different point of view. Maybe the main consensus is ‘It’s not a difficult name’, but it wasn’t our name.

As we aren’t too far into the new year could someone keep a count of how many times she mentions her poverty story, would be interesting to know the weekly/monthly/annual mentions.
We were really poor but I don’t find the need to mention it at any opportunity, especially as I am now no longer poor, although I have no cotswold furniture so I may need to rethink my poverty status.
