I’m gonna clap back here, who cares? If he enjoys it he enjoys it? Snobbery around books grinds my gears, so many people don’t read so even if someone is reading “trash” who cares, he also reads a lot for his job, these videos and because I’m assuming books are sent to him?
I actually didn't mean with regards to the books he reads, but the way he discussed the celebrity poems in his recent video. For someone as arrogant as he is to describe Lana Del Rey's poetry as 'a cross between Walt Whitman and Sylvia Plath' is hilarious to me. People can read what they want if they want to read at all, but don't be saying ridiculous statements like that if you present yourself as an authoritative voice on literature, which he definitely believes he is.
These book videos are really taking off but I wish he’d spend more time dissecting the actual text instead of just making puns and do progressive updates throughout books as he reads. The formula: “I’m going to read this book”, “I’ve now read this book” gets boring
Most YouTubers who set up a PO Box at least preface it with a message that they don't expect people to send them stuff but are happy to receive it if people really want to. Most of the time it's snacks, letters and artwork, but books!
He has more than enough $$ for books..so shouldn't it be the opposite way around? Like giveaways? No one does these anymore, but the audacity of asking for books when PO boxes are for letters..

Right... Like I'm just wondering who the hell asked to send him books? Would never cross my mind to buy someone who makes money off of social media a book. Like dude you're a studytuber, your audience is predominantly made up of students - you do the math. He could have just said that he opened a PO box in case anyone wants to send him mail.
I can sort of see why books may not be too bad to take. I have a ton of books that I will probably never re-read again so sending them to someone to read probably isn't that bad of an idea, but seeing as he is a lit student and you'd expect him to be well-read it's also a risky thing because he may have just read the book already

My problem with it is that reading doesn’t have to be expensive, or cost anything at all. He has a job and can afford to buy his own books.
Many classics are available online if they are in the public domain, and libraries are well stocked. Although they may currently be closed, many libraries have online digital and audio catalogues which are easy to access.
If he wants to own physical copies, second hand shops (again, when open) can be a great resource, as can shopping online for pre owned titles.
Digital copies are also a thing, I get that the physical print vs kindle debate is a big thing, but that also makes reading so much more accessible
Jack earns a hell of a lot more than I (and most of his audience) do, he should be sourcing his own books not requesting freebies from his viewers.
He did buy 43 books on Amazon, which, seeing the average new book is $15 where I'm from and some look like classics so maybe $10, that is around $400-600...

Yeah he said he bought them on abebooks, which is a second hand book site owned by amazon, so about £200-300 is probably accurate. Prices for most of the books should be around £5-7, for classics usually £1-3. I really can't fault him for this one, he has the money and they're mostly (all?) second hand. He could have ordered from worldofbooks which as far as I know isn't owned by amazon but that's being nitpicky.
I've ordered through WorldofBooks and definitely recommend them if anyone is looking for a website for second hand books! I've also used Bookshop.org which routes all orders through independent bookshops and again, isn't owned by Amazon!
Removing dislikes from YouTube is a terrible idea and only people like Studytubers (who cry whenever someone holds them accountable) want it.
Never understood why creators get their knickers in a twist over a few video dislikes. If your skin is that thin maybe don’t be an influencer.
The dislike function is really important for signposting if a video contains false information, poor commentary, or is generally a crappy video. This is yet another step in YouTube removing the voice of audiences on videos.
