His new vlog - wow. He comes across as so immature and woe is me, like people have had it so much harder than he has. Lots of people have lost their lives, lost love ones, lost jobs and their only source of income, whereas Jack hasn’t been disadvantaged by the pandemic at all. He has written a book, earns money from YouTube, is gifted free accommodation and he complains about his course being online- like literally every other student in the country has to deal with. Jack complains loads about everything and was definitely referring to tattle when talking about online hate. But actually a lot of it is reasonable criticism - like complaining about something and nothing and then breaking social distancing. Jack needs to realise his privilege and GROW THE duck UP. Rant over.

You'd think that Jack had never even considered getting a job in his whole life. If it's not exotic nor FOMO-inducing for others, he's not interested. How he thinks he'll be able to afford to stay living in London is interesting - bank of Mum and Dad perhaps?

am i the only one who found it odd that he didn't say which country was he supposed to travel to? it is as if he was interested in that other country just for the sake of being "ABROAD", not because of the culture, food, people, etc.

@Magallanes The fact that he decided not to do the screenwriting course purely because it was no longer abroad speaks volumes. He is definitely scrabbling around trying to find stuff to do to fill this year. He should really be looking for things more long-term in case he gets rejected from Oxford again - let's face it, what has he done that will increase his chances of acceptance?

He’s not getting into oxford, they don’t think he suits them, that’s all there is too it, no matter what he does to his application etc, they’re looking for good fits to their style/the way they think, clearly he’s no accepted this, but if you’re rejected once, the chances are you’re going to be rejected the more times you apply, he needs to get over oxford, it’s not the be and end all, just go to another university, I’ve found the ex poly uni’s much better for employability and employer links which surely is what you want?

Thing is as a 2020 graduate I know that tit is so hard right now like the job market is ridiculous and a lot of us are scrambling for masters' and jobs and whatnot...but I know people who have to get jobs because they don't have anywhere to go, Jack and a lot of the rest of us are able to move home and live with our parents for a bit while we sort ourselves out but I feel like Jack's main focus is content maybe and he doesn't acknowledge how lucky he is to have a home to go to? Obviously I don't know the situation but from previous vids I can't imagine he has a bad relationship with his parents? Like he feels he'll go home and not be doing anything like any normal graduate does but like always he wants to struggle and be ~different~ and qUiRkY uno

Obviously the pandemic hasn’t helped graduates but I got my under grad degree 4 years ago and it took me some time to get a graduate position, it’s not out of the ordinary

He said that the *oh so special, not found anywhere else* course only had, what, 6 places or something? For a small course at Oxford, he needs to be one of the most competitive Lit graduates out there, and he isn't. Presumably he applied with a predicted 1st, which he got, so he's not developed his application in the slightest. Plus, it will hinder him that he only got that 1st by the skin of his teeth. I bet he regrets faffing around and procrastinating so much on his exam prep/assignments now, but I guess he just wanted to seem rElAtAbLe.

I found that odd too, but when he was reading out the email I’m sure he said something about the fall semester which would probably mean it was America?

You know, I genuinely think Oxford would have been fine with the scraping a 1st thing. He's human and so too are Oxford staff and students. Like you said, what they will have a problem with is all the rushed essay videos, blaming everyone but himself and his persistently cocky and over-confident attitude towards academia ( which they really really have a problem with). I'm sure he's capable of great things, but I think he really needs to consider the possibility that Oxford may not be one of those things.

Both him and unjaded Jade still have massive complexes about their Oxford rejections... imagine that being the sole defining characteristic of your life 🙄

I can understand that if you grew up believing Oxford was the only good university on the entire planet why you'd be gutted. But 2/3 years on, if you genuinely believe you need to prove you're over it by going to a scam university and preaching casual magic, or in Jack's case; applying to Oxford for the rest of your life in the hope you'll eventually get in - chances are, you aren't over it.

I suspect he, like a lot of influencers and content creators, are now desperate for content especially now his university journey has ended. And that I think is the reason he was going abroad to study and wants oxford. Both give a unique niche to make his videos stand out. Without that he is just another vlogger with a normal (albeit privileged) life

Also, and this sounds meaner than I mean it, but his degree is somewhat limiting in the job market. If he is going up against people with business, marketing, accounting etc type degrees they will likely be more appealing to employers in more areas than English Literature. Although he is all about the top universities, they often focus more on the academic whereas the newer universities are focusing on employability and skills employers look for

Exactly and perhaps in the next couple of months you will have brand new studytubers ready to start their YouTube journey, ready to take their place.

I would LOVE a sales assistant to pull him up on signing copies in random stores like he’s giving back to his community
(Sorry to quote a post from a few pages ago, but he's back at it again apparently)

My first thought when I saw his insta story was: "Does he have permission from that bookseller to sign copies?" It did not look official, and seemed pretty dodgy if I'm honest. If he wanted some signed copies to be in circulation, why didn't he do that at the publishers?

Because he’s so entitled he thinks he’s doing a community service by singing them

I feel sad for Jack tbh. He’s an insufferable twit but I think he maybe recognizes that he didn’t diversify his channel enough and that why he’s obsessed with Oxford, it’ll give him a niche to attract students who are going into their undergrad because they want to see oxford and don’t give two fecks about who’s filming it. He should have slowly introduced literature stuff on to his channel way earlier, maybe analysis of the current GCSE or A level stuff (if he hasn’t already) and then gone from there.

Also they’ll definitely take his rejections into account when making a decision. I was told when I rejected my offer that it was pretty much “the end of my relationship” with them. And that the system would highlight any application I had made and that they’d all be looked at.

Yep, he's definitely over his rejection(s). It's not like he keeps mentioning it or anything. /sarcasm
